Some things I just noticed...

You can run the pick and roll w/ Paul and Chandler AND throw the up, something which I could never do pre-patch.

The backdoor is STILL ABUSED BY cpu on all-star/superstar way too much. I hate having to be a big to cover the exploit...and they still throw it in.

Tried fixing it by lowering/upping Help D strength and STILL DIDN't FIX IT. On hall of fame, it's not too big a problem but Parker gets blocked WAY TOO MUCH going to the rim when he never gets blocked IRL. Changing shots with stick shot didn't seem to work for some reason...

It's nice because it works, much like Live's shooting sliders. Thankfully I can lower both so I don't end up with the constant 55%+ shooting from both games out of the box. Life is good.

I love the variance this game brings. People complain about the "scrubs" doing well, but that's not the norm from what I've seen. It's a rarity. Just thought I'd bring this point up the same night after Barea drops a season high 18 (with what, 9 pts. in the 4th?) and Bonner scores a team leading 12 pts. in the first half.

I've played games where a star can score 5-10 points one game, then replayed the same game and they score 30+. All with default rosters.

I guess I'll throw in the obligatory "I must have a good copy."
I've been playing with 35, 46, 46, for about 30 games now, and I really like the results I've been getting. There have been very few games where I or the CPU have shot over 50%. Good ball movement, exploiting mismatches , and easy buckets in transition, are a must if I want to shoot anything better than the low 40%'s

Yeah, I forgot to reset to default sliders and played with thefuture420's sliders (last update pre-patch I think) and OS Outsiders (version 6 I think)... there were too many misses in close by big men, but the jumpers and the overall feel was great. The teams shot something horrendous in the first half (I was like 28% and the Lakers were at 34%), but they ended up in the low 40's by the end of the game. I'll probably boost shooting numbers slightly, but it played great and the CPU was taking a wide variety of shots, including quick pull-up threes and kick-out mids. CPU Kobe dominated the game and took 27 shots, most of which came later in the game when they were trying to get the lead back. I ended up winning by 5 I think.

I haven't had much time to play offline (I play in leagues most of the time), but after that great game I might have to give it another look.

Um.

I started up a new Association and did a Close Shooting development drill with Jerryd Bayless. Then I did a Low Post Offense drill with Greg Oden. When I finished that, the system froze. My PS3 has now been sitting with a flashing green light and the blue light still on for about 2 minutes, stuck between off and on.

After waiting 5 or 6 minutes, I turned the power off and on. When I turned the system back in, the disc didn't show up in the XMB menu until I ejected it and put it back in.

yeah the game is a definate improvment...it feels more real. im seeing little variances and subtleties in the animations that i havent seen before.
the game simply plays better.
i only play offline single player. so for me. i love this game.

and i havent really had to make any adjustments to my sliders or my roster.
when i edit rosters. i dont fundamentally change from 2ks system...i adhere to it, but improve it. the tendencies make a big difference to cpu gameplay quality..

im loving this game. i was enjoying it prepatch anyways. but yeah. theres a definate improvement post patch.

To see all this new stuff like moves and other stuff. I need to use the 2k rosters?

# 348 Stumbleweed @ 12/05/08 06:28 PM
I saw new stuff in the game offline where I was using OS Outsiders roster and online in a league game, so I don't think it matters.

Aside from smarter bounce passes in the paint, improved frame rate with the 2K cam and better fast break scoring, I haven't noticed too much else that's different about the game since the patch. I'm using OS Outsiders 6 rosters w/futures420 sliders. I did have to up my 3pt success rate from 45 to 52 for myself because post patch I wasn't able to knock down a single 3.

The game seems easier to play now. I've played 4 games post patch and won them all.

This game plays much much better. There is actually contact in the piant now finally. If someones driving the lane and im in position, im either going to get the block or its going to be a hard foul. Which is perfect. before it was just an easy 2 for the offense.
The isomotion controls are more fluid and intuitive. The post game is improved IMO. U can't just back someone down with the Left trigger that much anymore, u have to use ur post moves and hopsteps, and fadeaways etc. Which differentiates the elite bigs from the rest.
A lot more deflected balls, and sloppy play which is the epitome of the NBA.

Im really really happy with this patch. Which is the total opposite of how i felt about the 2nd Patch in 2k8 which IMO ruined the game for me.

Is anyone having troubles with any aspect of the game besides the Devlopment Drills post-patch? I just posted a thread that explains my frustrations, and basically I don't want to keep risking my PS3's life with these BS hidden things that will freeze your system. I hadn't had it happen before the patch but had heard about it; dumb that it wasn't fixed, I thought they said freezing was being addressed.

Hey all. I am very new to this forum though I do play the game a lot. I want to download the patch to see what all the fuss is about, but I am unsure how much it will affect my current settings. I am almost through the first season of my Blazers Association, and would hate it if the patch made that unplayable. I use Future's sliders and Razr's rosters, and I'm liking the way it plays. Some of you might say "If you're happy with it just leave it," but I guess I am greedy and want to see what positive changes the patch will bring. I am happy the way it is now, but from the sound of it the patch makes it better.
I guess I am asking, does the patch mean you have to reset the settings to default?
Also, can any PAL users out there confirm the patch for PAL has been released?

At last I see some dang hope. I know I have vented some frustration, but keeping at it, I had myself a little breakthrough.

I played Lakers-Suns again.

I focused 1st on gettng a camera angle where I can see all of these dang cutters and I denied them the ball and beat them off of their screens my dang self. That cut a lot of garbage out.

It was a close game, between 4-6 pts for the most part. The suns are good in this game so I dont expect to get a blow out.

The biggest thing I did differently was instead on focusing on my one player, I tried to think myself through the game as if I was coaching it. Instead of on ball D'ing everything in sight, I focused on team defense.

When to man up, when to offer help, When to call the double and take matters into my own hands as far as rotation goes. I adjusted my coaching with the game.

midway through the 4th quarter, I sicked Kobe on Steve Nash on defense, and that was the end of Nash. I ended up winning the friggen game on default all star, and really felt good about it. I earned every second of that dang win.

Like how the patched game is playing now. I've only been using it with the sliders I was using pre-patch, but haven't found anything that needed to change.

Only thing is that like others have said posting up is odd now. I can be Garnett and not push back on a small guard even at times. When posting it's now better to just get the ball, make a quick move and shoot. That's how it is in real life too a lot of the time, but usually you can still get one or two steps back. Overall I guess it's ok.

I think the first free throw is faster because the graphics at least to me seem to be worse on the players during it. Players standing around don't seem to have any sweat on them, but again it may just be me imagining things or not paying attention pre-patch.

No more back door cuts all the time, still a lot of lead passing to the hoop but that's the nature of 2k basketball games.

Overall it's a better experience

One thing I forgot to mention, I don't know maybe it's just me but I seem to notice some animations that aren't complete. I noticed in the last game the ball would warp a few times with no real transition animation between. May have been a one game thing though but something to look for

I'm liking these impressions so far. Tommorow I'm going to dl the patch and try it out.

# 358 Nodima @ 12/05/08 10:49 PM
SO no one else has had the game made completely unplayable by the patch? I seriously can't start a game without the system freezing. But my other games work fine...

Walker, I agree with everything you state in this post!

The tuning they applied to drives and inside moves is unbelievable. Before, on a lot shots(especially by me the User) a very awkward animation would trigger and lead to a block, a shot hitting the side of the backboard, or just a really, really ugly miss.

Now the game almost always choose a really nice contextually appropriate shot animation and it looks frikin great. Both the misses and the makes are quick and fluid. They look like NBA shots. The CPU also makes a lot less And 1 shots when bumped hard to the floor.

The pull up game is pretty sick now too. Played back to back games vs the Wizard and the Rockets and it was a thing of beauty to see Arenas and T-Mac using the hesitation dribble and pulling from anywhere.

My wish list for next year is pretty short.
