NBA Live 18 News Post

Some of the more popular YouTubers were invited to attend a private NBA Live 18 party and posted some quick videos. For the most part, they are video blogs on their experience at the event, along with a few glimpses of action.

We will probably see a few more trickle in throughout the week, so keep your eyes open, as we wait for more announcements leading up to EA Play in June.

Like what I am hearing, only because you have been nothing but transparent in the past.

I will say again, totally didn't expect all wonky animations to be gone this year. As long as positive progress continues on the animation front and can see that they are getting on the right track, then I will be happy.

Wow awkward movement.. looks very canned, very STIFF, After all this time 30 second trailer that looks "nice"..sorry was ready to be blown away.. I'm sure many feel the same. I noticed the guy kept saying the "gameplay LOOKS wonderful".. but never said how the GAME PLAYED which is ALL that matters.

C'mon EA, come through... so we can have two games to look forward to! Lets go!

I believe i've read or heard somewhere back in time that EA is adding, adjusting, deleting animations thru the year with Live 16 i believe they did something like that so as long as they are aware and working on them, i believe this can be good in the progress, we'll see.

Amen. And any teaser video this early in the game is likely showcasing an engine versus playability. Noting and hoping - as you said - many flaws will be patched for Day 1 release.

But yes, marketing people have no clue what actual gamers are looking for. I've covered UFC launch events before, and the disconnect is glaringly obvious. Their marketing peeps are often contract/external, mind you.

With this being said, I'd be thrilled with an upgrade over 16. 2K is a beautiful game, but the pacing just isn't for me. It's the same reason I prefer PES over FIFA.

I hope EA gets this one 'right.'

Gotta see some 5 on 5 gameplay the animations still got that same stiff look like retro live games...

We're smarter than this.

A marketing department slaps lipstick on a pig meaning they take from what will draw the most attention and publish it for the masses. They would never intentionally release bad footage. Let's face it..this was the best stuff they could find.

I don't care how many carryover animations they scrap. It won't be enough because that sig animation of Harden is what they chose to feature...and it looks like crap.

New tech means absolutely nothing if it cannot animate fluidly. You cannot hide animations when there are only 10 players on a court.

What is the point of releasing yet another game that can't even get the barebones right?

And who are the yes men working there telling each other that this nonsense is acceptable in 2017?

Preach on brother

I hate to be negative poster towards Live but at what point will we just get a game that provides animations which resemble that of true NBA ballers?

Seems like there's always something that doesn't get done right with Live when it comes to movement.

Opinion. That is yours. I love Live 16. Still play it. I own the other game too. I enjoy basketball and am excited to play 18. No need to talk down on or hate on anyone. I'm sure the people making the game work plenty hard.

I think the new tech will be huge. It's an exciting time to be a basketball video game fan.

But the game hasn't been released yet, mate.

But EA put of that video. They think it looks great otherwise EA wouldn't have put it out there. All that video confirmed to me is that they still are cutting corners. How in the world do you take 2 years off, and try to put mocap on top of/blend in with a base of bad spastic animations?
Your quote entitles them to keep making excuses, and your quote is an excuse itself. It screams the "SLA" (struggle Live apologists) acceptance of mediocrity.

Wrong. Wrong. Wrong!

My quote matey says I'll hold my judgment until I buy the product. That's informed decision making for me.

I prefer not to pepper the forum with negativity. It's not the vibe I want to carry in my head as I do my real job.

Dude. People like what they like. I understand if your opinion is not high on a product. That does not mean everyone will have the same opinion.

I see the point I made flew over both of your heads. Who's being negative when I and others are pointing out an issue that has been a Live legacy issue going all the way back to PS2 days? You're confusing critique with negativity. Case in point how you say nothing about this:

Will is clearly stating Legacy issues.. but you don't say Will's being negative. Selective post jumping in excuse favor of Live runs rampant on these forums.. Its a reason the devs wrote a blog not understanding the reaction the game received, and why sales were the lowest for the series ever..

Nothing flew over anyone's head. You called individuals that want the game to succeed SLA's. I'm not calling you a LH. WTF has played the game. He has seen it. He commented about how he can't wait to talk about the tech and how he likes it.

Saying you don't like something is fine. Just did not like the way you did it. Anywho....I'm pumped for EA play.

You're wasting your time. Some guys just won't get it. Not after embarrassing sales, not after low reviews, not after obscurity, etc. Some people will continue to get excited over very barebones stuff and think that Live will be making a comeback. The common response is that its "your opinion". Yeah, and 5 million others that chose to buy ANOTHER game that also has many flaws. Thats a pretty strong opinion.

Don't waste your time with these fools that only come here pre-release. You may be a respected poster but not this forum when every year it's this game is trash, animations are crap without actually playing the final product or making constructive criticism in the vids/feedback/glitches thread with actual vids of the things you dislike in the current game.

At least wtf and others actually play the game and give viable avenues on this board for gameplay changes.

Nemesis if this is directed to me, I'll take the bait. I've done more than you think. I went to school for game design at DigiPen. I've worked for Nintendo of America, Microsoft Game Studios, and EA as a QA Tester. I was specifically put on Live for a few years. I've also emailed the CEO of EA Canada at the the time David Gardner, as well as a few devs working on the game a week later when Live was being produced there. I've been there at the EA campus in Burnabya few times, because I lived in North Van at the time, taking Graphic Design at Capilano College, and knew people that worked there and they knew my background.
I've had EA devs/CM PM me directly on these forums because of that email, asking me about it and telling me how the CEO made the whole Live team read it. The only thing I didn't disclose was that I was testing the game or I would've been easily singled out. I can tell you of the time I submitted a notebook about 50 pages deep with issues, directly to the devs only to get a thank you note back stating "thank you for pointing out these issues, but these weren't what we were looking for at that time."
I can tell you about NBA live 07 still using Genesis code called AI94, 2 gaming generations later, did you know that? I saw the code myself with a programmer buddy who decompiled 07 and a Genesis cartridge, the main reason I wanted to learn code, on top of being an animator.

I've done more than you think. Have you done anything close to what I wrote in any capacity whatsoever? Guess what WTF (Will and a few others on this very forum can confirm everything Im telling you. But I don't know what I'm talking about? . I sent them things you haven't seen or heard. I know plenty of people in the industry at a few companies including 2k and keep in contact with them from time to time.

So when I see quotes like this, I can only shake my head:
Quote:
I'll take a little stiff movement all day if they fix all of those other issues, and if we get good gameplay.
I'm not going to name who wrote this, but it's from a few pages back. this is SLA mentality. Im not saying he's one, its just the mentally in this forum. READ that quote.

1. This person wants stiff movement all day, with an if?.
2. How can a person settle for stiff movement, but wants all the other issues fixed? Does that even make sense? This person wants everything else fixed, excluding the stiff movement. Why not just fix everything?
3. How can you have good gameplay with still having stiff movement? Movement affects the gameplay.

Its a never ending cycle of mediocrity, and settling. Please respond, and make it good. Not that I need validation, but whatever.. I still have more to talk about, just barely touched the surface..

Makes sense most don't play the when it's released instead just watch a clip and say the game is trash, for everyone that's commented on this seem like they want you to think you can't have fun unless you playing 2k but everyone is entitled to there own opinion.

If I may refer to the subject of this topic, NBA LIVE 18 Videos Released, with a few YouTube influencers to make noise and create buzz for an upcoming product - I can smell marketing team and not development team.

Which means, I maintain, I cannot make any judgment until the finished product is out, and I tried it myself.

Until then, we can all agree that at this point, we only saw snippets (teasers) and that itself is not a final product.

Let us keep the forum alive with ideas how to make the game better, meanwhile recognizing that each one is entitled to his/her own opinions.

We can contribute harmoniously. Happy reading.

Still not a fan of the animations, I'm waiting to see some unedited, unscripted gameplay.
