NBA Live 18 News Post

Some of the more popular YouTubers were invited to attend a private NBA Live 18 party and posted some quick videos. For the most part, they are video blogs on their experience at the event, along with a few glimpses of action.

We will probably see a few more trickle in throughout the week, so keep your eyes open, as we wait for more announcements leading up to EA Play in June.

I can dig what your saying, but sometimes change is necessary. And I don't think anyone is making any definitive proclamation in May, dude said if.

New dribbling system, new defensive system, and one of my favorite parts, new signature style tech.. Once it's talked about and I can go into more depth about it, you all will see why I'm excited about it. Lastly, the in the paint physicality will help this game. There's some really nice tech in the game this year which will lead to some very nice battles.

There's some animation carryover, which I don't like, but they're replacing them.

Pretty sure this is someone who as seen and played the game, a 30sec clip only says so much about a game that goes on for about 20min, so I'm pretty the build that will probably be played at EA plays still won't be the final build but I hope it does nothing less than impress. Just send my copy already EA

Called entitlement. Been around since the old america. Nothing new.

16 wasnt horrible it just wasnt 2k. The game as of today is almost decent with the right slider tweaks.

Cant finish a full game(both games feel like a chore) but spacing in live brings me back.

Im not expecting miracles, but improve the low post and on ball defense and im good.

This is enticing. If all this is implemented right, this sounds like I'll really like this game.

The new tech you mentioned sounds good and intriguing, but unless the animation carryover is taken care of like you said it will be then this game is due for another letdown. Buyers in this niche of gaming are vain as crap and they want to see basketball games animate as close as they can to the real thing. Unfortunately EA has not been able to put things together and figure out this ongoing issue of making this game animate properly. They have had all the time in the world to deliver a satisfying project, so excuses need to be put tp the way side. We don't want to see apology letters, 3 year plans, and delays any more. All we want to see now is them making huge strides with issues that have held them back in the past and not allowed this game to be received well. I'm going to hold my judgment until more footage is revealed, but I did not like what I saw with that short reveal. Anyways we are going to get alot of unbiased impressions about this game from people who attend the EA event in Cali, and not You tube influencers who have everything to gain.

I wish I could say all of the carryover would be gone, but I truly don't know how much will. I've been as vocal as I could be to stress the items of importance for OS. It's up to the powers that be to make it happen.

I understand where you are coming from and agree. I want a smooth gameplay experience. Animation does not hold Madden back though. The new trailer dropped and it was more of the same from fans. Equipment issues, graphics not much improved, animations, sideline, etc. the same complaints year after year and it sells. Granted it is the only game on the market but it will sell and sell well. Most making complaints will undoubtedly pick up the game.

I have never tried to make a video game nor do I want to. I don't know how hard it is overhaul a game. I do know that if people are not satisfied with Live that they will not buy it or go the route of the competition.

The reason why I think Live is about to start to climb in sales is because it is not the other game. How many shooting game are out? People like choices and will try things out. There will be purchases from the die hands, people that are done with the other game, intrigued people, fans of the cover athlete, Black Friday purchases, etc. I'm excited to know more about the sig shot tech and dribble mechanics. I have always preferred the movement and atmosphere of Live. It just feels right to me. In 16 the horrid post play was inexcusable. Some of the animations were down right ugly. That did not change the fact that me along with a lot others played the game.

I think the project and vision will be satisfying. WTF mentions legacy animations tho. Seems like some of the ugly from 09/10 is just part of the DNA right? That does not give an excuse to keep it in or cover it up. I guess to close out Madden plays and has always played like madden, 2k like 2k, COD like COD, Halo like Halo, Forza like Forza, and Live like Live. Do these titles improve, innovate, and get better?? Yes. But at the core do the play the same??? I think it is unrealistic to think that NBA Live can or will be perfect. As a consumer interested in this product I want to see more animations, more dunks, better post play, more sig shots, and player editing to name a few. From what I see and here that may all be addressed. That is more than enough to for me to purchase.

I hope what they bring to the table is also more than enough for others. We shall see.

I don't know about that. I think Live could release the greatest basketball game known to man and it wouldn't sell well this year. Their reputation is just bad now. Hopefully they have a mutiyear plan in place because expecting it to go from what, 50K (?) units of Live 16 to millions ain't happening.

Live is competing with Live, I don't get the 2K comparisons. These are two different games in totally different places. They were always different games, even back last gen when they were more competitive salewise. Neither one was "better" it was just a preference. Some of my friends loved Live, others swore by 2K and it was great! Both games had their own identity. The only thing they have in common now is that they're NBA basketball games. That's it. Live just needs to release a good solid game that establishes its new identity. Build from there and see where it goes.

The onus is on them though to release a game good enough to warrant purchase on its own. None of that competition for the sake of competition stuff. I'm not gonna buy Live to spur competition or to send a message to 2K; there are too many other games out there. I bought NBA Playgrounds because its a good game that's fun and I can enjoy it with my 7 year old son. If it becomes an annual title I'll most likely add it to the rotation because I have it and enjoy it.

I'm not encouraged at all from what I saw in this trailer. Hopefully they release a demo so that I can get my hands on it. I just want to play it and see how it feels and looks. I don't want them to specifically change this or that, I honestly don't care. If it's good I'll gladly buy; if not, then I won't. Just like any other game.

At this point BAP modes are all I play with sports titles and I hate what myplayer has become and I haven't purchased 2K since they've gone the forced storyline route. If Live can give me a BAP mode that I can get into I'll buy it. I'd assume that puts me into a rare group. On a sidenote Live facial scan has been the best also.

I get what people are talking about the movement but it doesn't bother me as much. I kind of like most of what I saw in these videos.

Off topic but the forced storyline for my player is that bad. I didn't play this year but last year I basically ignored the story aspect and skipped as much as I could and focused on the game. Once the story part was over it' was a more traditional my player mode. Not sure if I was the same for 2k17.

Most people that plays 2k nustop would say it's good for me it was too much, yea people want to see there players develop but I couldn't go thru all that process I just wanted to pick up the game and play so for me I had no interest in my career I did the college portion then I stop playing. I just have 2k just in case a friend come over.

EA must really think that we're stupid. Yes it is some gameplay being showed but it's not actual "in-game" gameplay footage. The players still look stiff and not that fluid.

# 153 zrohman @ 05/27/17 06:18 PM
Guys, it's extremely improved over Live 16 so far. Let's just be grateful for that. I'm waiting to see if it can have decent gameplay, editing like everyone wants, if the tip at the beginning of each game can go to more players than the PG, if subs sub in and out correctly, end of game ai.

I'll take a little stiff movement all day if they fix all of those other issues, and if we get good gameplay. I always felt more in control and less sucked into animations with Live. Also like Espn integration. If they give me most of what I mentioned above, maybe even throw in a great price, I'm in. 2k starts out your my career players at a 57 to VC grab. If they give us a better less forced career mode with less money needed to play that's a bonus.

Same here I got 2K on gamefly and I keep it because my Stepson plays it. I did the same with the college but I just couldn't get into it. The facial scan isn't great and the idea of my face being on this other person just killed it.

They should want to be like 2K in terms of being a good/great basketball sim, assuming that's the goal of Live, but Live needs its own identity as well. Something that makes Live different from 2k.

Right now Live just needs to fined a way to gain fans and be relevant, which can be done in a number of ways. They can take advantage of what people dislike about 2K and make them a strength (better online experience, more control and freedom, better stadium atmosphere, etc). They could add a mode that is essentially NBA Street, since it seems like they won't make an actually new NBA Street game. I know I'd buy Live day one if there was an Arcade type mode that was essentially a modern version of Street. Or simply sell the game at launch for cheaper ($40-$45). I'm sure there would be a lot of people willing to buy Live instead of 2k for a cheaper price or atleast buy Live as well as 2k. This is what 2k did way back for their 2k5 games and it worked. I'd go as far as to say that's part of the reason 2k was able to become so popular. People that normally didn't buy 2k games had a cheap way to fully experience 2k and it opened there eyes to a new experience.
They only need to fix fluidity. Anything else.
Since Nba Live 16 they have to put all energy in fluidity and smoothness. Graphics is ok and was ever better than 2K. Online is better than 2K. What is orrible and unplayable is those mecanics movements, inacceptable in 2018.
They have to find a way.
If EA is not able to do this, I prefer a Nba Live in 2D and with only one side view (like NBA Jam) but with fluidity compared to 2K.

One thing for me that I've felt even in ,live 15 , was that player knowledge and stick skills matter more in live. That's my opinion though.
And Live had a way better Halftime Show. 2Ks wasn't bad , but Lives was more like the TV broadcast

I played a lot of the other game this year and yes....I still play Live 16 also. I just love basketball games. My point is that what I have seen so far reminds me of what I loved from 09/10 with improved visuals. From what I have seen/heard that is what most think of as the quintessential Live game(s). For me Live has always played a certain way going back to the SNES/Sega days(much like Madden). It just has a certain feel of freedom to me. I love the dribble control and such. For me it's preference and comfort. I guess I just am interested to hear a few more opinions. Some call it legacy issues and others just call it arcade.

Ps. Really pumped to play with the Mavs in 18.

That's great that the horrid animations will be at least slightly gone....but why show stiff ugly animations to showcase your game??

The only reason I can think is that they have a much higher reach at EA Play and they really want to show what they've got then

Because EA marketing, lol

I have no clue, and have no clue how many will remain this year, etc. I made a list of the ones that I didn't like, which included plenty, and which ones were good out of the prior years, which were few. Most of the new stuff is really nicely done, and specifically contact around the paint, etc is dope. And the sig shot stuff, I can't wait for them to talk about it. It's some of my favorite tech.
