NBA Live 18 News Post

Some of the more popular YouTubers were invited to attend a private NBA Live 18 party and posted some quick videos. For the most part, they are video blogs on their experience at the event, along with a few glimpses of action.

We will probably see a few more trickle in throughout the week, so keep your eyes open, as we wait for more announcements leading up to EA Play in June.

Looks really good. So happy for EA Sports!

This does not look good at all especially considering this is what they put out and not some random footage captured by not EA.

Is it an improvement from 16? Sure

but that is not good enough for me especially if you take years off..oh well. Will still wait for actual gameplay footage but first impressions are not good

I don't really expect to hear accurate and honest opinions from people that were flown out to an event, received some free stuff, and got a early look at a game. I mean are these people really going to turn around and say bad things if they want to be invited to such events again?
All of the videos I attempted to watch have annoying Youtubers. I could do without all of them

I just can't imagine being a company the size of EA Sports, knowing you have to compete with 2K Sports, and you fly Youtubers out to reveal this? It looks improved, but it still doesn't look good.

Yeah I had to turn the videos off after the gameplay was show. I prefer a good old written impression over YouTubers that are more interested in views and followers rather than giving an informed impression.

So much traffic in the NBA Live forum this week. Love it. I don't think I have seen the Live forum this active since Live 15.

Excited for more reveals. Question to anyone that does not care for what they have seen. What NBA Live games did you enjoy??? Not trying to start a war or anything. Just curious.

I played a lot of the other game this year and yes....I still play Live 16 also. I just love basketball games. My point is that what I have seen so far reminds me of what I loved from 09/10 with improved visuals. From what I have seen/heard that is what most think of as the quintessential Live game(s). For me Live has always played a certain way going back to the SNES/Sega days(much like Madden). It just has a certain feel of freedom to me. I love the dribble control and such. For me it's preference and comfort. I guess I just am interested to hear a few more opinions. Some call it legacy issues and others just call it arcade.

Ps. Really pumped to play with the Mavs in 18.

I can't wait to see the post game interviews and classic teams, also the player celebrations when you hit that game winning three.

This isn't about Live trying to be 2K. This is about Live delivering a solid basketball title to the masses. Forget 2K. Carve your own niche, be innovative, do something great.

Let's not use 2K as a scapegoat every time someone criticizes something in Live. Honestly, we are ALL NBA live fans, or we wouldn't be in this forum.

I remember first playing Live 95 on the NES and instantly falling in love with the franchise. It had many many many many solid years, with Live 10 being it's peak IMO. There are reasons they can't go back to the formula they used in Live 10, but you're not going to tell me the guys making this game are incapable of putting out another classic basketball title. (Maybe they're not, but I don't want to push that speculation)

Live 16 was a solid foundation, it just had way too many fundamental basketball issues for it to be a great game, sans the animation issues. I want Live to succeed, as does everyone in this thread. Let's not make it a 2K vs Live thing because that's the ultimate cop out.

Totally disagree.
You entered in a market to sold copies and your rival is Nba2K, no other one. You have to take 2K like a point to overcome and you have to make better than 2K. If you'are not able to do this, you're out of the market.
It's not a question of fun or historical Nba Live fan. I was an Nba Live fan and now i'm a 2K fan. Nba Live have lost me. Why? Simple, 2K is better.
The only way i can return to be a Nba Live fan is only one: they have to do a better game than Nba2K.
So simple.
And i'ts clear EA is still not able to do this. Nba Live 18 it's better than Nba Live 16? Certainly. 16? Wake up, we are goin' in 2018! Nba Live 18 needs to be better than Nba 2K18, not than Nba Live 16!

For me I'm a longtime NBA LIVE fan (dang! those NBA LIVE '98 in PS to NBA LIVE 2003).

Then 2K10 came in...

I'm a casual gamer so I might probably buy both 2K18 and LIVE18 and test drive. If I like it I keep it if not, there's always a market for "pre-loved" games at $10 less.

Live 16 had its flaws . Defense especially in the paint needed much improvement . Animations looked weird . I liked the graphics and they look even better here.

One thing for me that I've felt even in ,live 15 , was that player knowledge and stick skills matter more in live. That's my opinion though.

That's an unrealistic expectation though. Yeah they should strive to compete with 2k but since Live 10 they've struggled to release a game that belongs on the same court as 2k, let alone being a better game. They should want to be like 2K in terms of being a good/great basketball sim, assuming that's the goal of Live, but Live needs its own identity as well. Something that makes Live different from 2k.

Right now Live just needs to fined a way to gain fans and be relevant, which can be done in a number of ways. They can take advantage of what people dislike about 2K and make them a strength (better online experience, more control and freedom, better stadium atmosphere, etc). They could add a mode that is essentially NBA Street, since it seems like they won't make an actually new NBA Street game. I know I'd buy Live day one if there was an Arcade type mode that was essentially a modern version of Street. Or simply sell the game at launch for cheaper ($40-$45). I'm sure there would be a lot of people willing to buy Live instead of 2k for a cheaper price or atleast buy Live as well as 2k. This is what 2k did way back for their 2k5 games and it worked. I'd go as far as to say that's part of the reason 2k was able to become so popular. People that normally didn't buy 2k games had a cheap way to fully experience 2k and it opened there eyes to a new experience.

Selling the game cheaper would make EA the biggest hypocrites of our gaming generation. The one key aspect of them influencing the NFL to go the exclusive route was this, therefore they have put themselves in a corner with their lackluster NBA franchise. Honestly I don't feel sorry for them nor do I feel that I should support their product until they deliver what the competition has failed to deliver, which honestly is not much, 2K has brought their A game every, despite drop offs here and there.

anyway... he's actually right. People should be held accountable. If you don't hold them accountable, you'll end up with the same crap product year after ye... oh wait.

no this new stuff is wanting peoples' lively-hood taken cause your "opinion" doesn't match your idea of progress in something you had no hand in progressing. AND all this from a trailer of sorts in the month of MAY!! ....MAY!!

It is good that they took time off to try and right what was a very wonky game. Even still thought NBA2k looks better. I am interested in seeing how it plays.

Stick skills matter this year. Who you're using matters as well. The offense/defense system is really slick. I hope there is some info coming at EA play about it so I can talk about it.

They also said they reworked the post and that there much more moves. Emphasis on size and strength as a factor in the post

Something to do with signature moves for players. That's probably for the bigger names. If most or all of the big names have signature moves that would be cool

That's about all I can remember them claiming
New dribbling system, new defensive system, and one of my favorite parts, new signature style tech.. Once it's talked about and I can go into more depth about it, you all will see why I'm excited about it. Lastly, the in the paint physicality will help this game. There's some really nice tech in the game this year which will lead to some very nice battles.

There's some animation carryover, which I don't like, but they're replacing them.
