Is there any way to have the overhead view as the default after you tee off? It only happens sometimes but prefer that view over all the others in the game.

Okay, what's the difference in level and rank then? I'm 3 in one of them, but no clue which. As much as I love the game, some design choices are very confusing to someone newer to the series.

"Level" is an easier progression compared to "Rank". E.g., you may be Level 3 and still be Rank 1. I guess levels are a way to show that the user is getting better between Ranks.

So how do you level up Rank?

You need to participate in, and if possible, win Tourneys to win XPs/points. Once you have certain number of XPs/points, you get to face a CPU opponent. Once you beat 3 CPU/AI opponents you reach the next Rank.

Okay. I've beaten two CPU opponents. Now I got it. Still a silly system. Thanks

You will know how many opponents you need to beat to get to the next level when you are in the Home Area. You will see the pics of player(s) you have beaten along with question mark showing how many more you need to beat. IIRC it's displayed in the top right hand corner.

Well I lucked out thanks to a Best Buy mistake. Preorder a copy over the weekend on impulse. Had been on the fence as to whether or not I wanted to keep the game once it arrives on Thursday. Turns out Best Buy just so happened to send a full digital download code instead of preorder DLC.

No point in keeping the retail copy now.

Currently rank 4 and level 10. It's a grind getting through the ranks. You need to at least play 3 rounds before getting enough exp to play against a character and you need to beat 3 characters to get ranked up. Also I have unlocked only 3 courses so far but its cool they do the course mirroring and different hole types to keep you entertained through the grind. If anyone has the DLC courses are they worth the buy?

Would be cool if there was a way for us to 'team up' for some Turf war.

That leads me to the things that could've been improved upon. They are minor but definitely something which would improve the overall experience...

1. All the courses should be accessible in offline multiplayer mode at least. if i want to play an offline mode with my buddies or want to have a quick round of golf,i should be able to select any course I want to choose.

2. In game instructions could be enhanced. As an example the game told me to "it's a low lie and you need to increase the elevation" or "you would hit the obstacle and need to lower the elevation" but for the life of me I couldn't figure out how to increase or decrease the elevation. maybe the game should have a pop-up which says "hold the d-pad down to increase elevation" or some such.

3. The "3 click control" doesn't work as well for putting, especially the gimmes. The game actually penalises you for hitting a great approach shot coz if you are within 2-5 feet of the ball, it's difficult to mash the button to get the right amount of power. I missed a couple of easy putts coz I wasn't able to nail the power accurately owing to the power indicator/flag too close to the start of the meter. Maybe a bigger impact zone for easy putts is the way to go.

But that's nitpicking coz the game plays really well and guarantees you hours of fun.
thanks for the input. kind of disappointed with the lack of courses again. But hey, I'll take it over nothing. Any impressions on music or any of the new courses reminiscent of the old Hot Shots games? I loved Sakura.

I know it costs more, but I think they said they were going to release more courses as DLC throughout the months in addition to the two currently in the shop.

Does anyone know if the DLC courses show up in the offline tournaments if you have them purchased or they only for online/offline quick play?

TBH I don't care about the music in video games and that's the first thing I turn down. Did the same here.

Can't comment on Hot Shot Golf courses as I never played that series. I was more of a Tiger Woods series fan. In hindsight should've probably checked it out.

Yeah, the putt count isn't really a thing on a normal golf scorecard. It's just there because it's Hot Shots.

It's definitely a grind, but it can be made to go somewhat faster by turning on "Serious Mode" with square on the tournament selection screen. The opponents score better, but winning is worth more XP and coins. I can usually get enough XP to challenge a new vs. character in 2 successful rounds when that's on. If it's an 18 hole tournament, it might only take one.

I'm still confused with the online lobby.

Are you actually able to COMPETE against another player? I see you can try to best other players' scores in a given hole but what about a vs. round of 9 or 18?
