The game is two-and-a-half years old. And they're still conducting international tournaments. There's one going on now.

There are still tournaments on Rory (or so I've heard) - what's your point?

Updates to the software are abandoned was more of what I was referencing.

Clap Hanz hasn't released a patch for Everybody's Golf PS4 since March of 2019. It's good to see that they still support online tournament play, but I'm still surprised that it's not nearly as fully featured a game as Hot Shots Golf World Invitational or even Hot Shots Golf OOB on the PS3.

It might be at least three and a half more years before we see another golf product on the PS5 from Clap Hanz. They didn't release Everybody's Golf for the PS4 until 3 1/2 years after the PS4's release. However, it does look like they'll continue to support multiplayer online tournaments until the next product releases, based on what happened with HSG:OOB and HSG:WI.

I'm surprised at how luke warm the Everybody's Golf community is about the game at this point though. It seems like they offered a lot more in the way of patches and upgrades to HSG:OOB and WI, longer after their release. I'm still scratching my head over the decision to not offer advanced swing interfaces in Everbody's Golf. The non real-time, horizontal 3-click meter as an only option is such a stone age throwback, IMO!?

Not many games, especially sports games, get support 2.5 years after release.

HB abandoned TGC2019 only one year after release

(might actually have been even sooner than that now that I think about it)

I guess everyone is going to have their own definition of "abandonment". HB Studios' last patch for TGC 2019 was in December of 2018, which was roughly five months after release. So yes, if lack of ongoing patching equates to abandonment, then yep - TGC 2019 has been abandoned.

My definition for abandonment of TGC 2019 would be when they quit supporting it on their servers. This game would be little more than an interactive demo without server support for "non official courses"... where the vast majority of quality courses reside and multiplayer and Society event play resides.

It's not actively being patched anymore and most everyone who plays it knows that it needs it. I keep holding my nose as I play it in spite of the flaws, but it's still providing me with the most entertainment of the golf games I still play, because the Society structure allows me to play in events in which I feel I have something at stake.

Just to sharpen this up a little...

If I'm not mistaken, the last update to EA Rory was in May of 2016, which was around 10 months after release.

So even Rory, from EA no less, who many here would ridicule into the ground, was supported longer post release (in terms of software updates to the core product), than TGC2019.

I don't really understand those who defend how HB handled the 2019 release and post launch support.

Saying "the servers still work" is really stretching.

As Onlooker hinted at above, the game is essentially "nothing" without the servers anyways, so that's a pretty low bar honestly.

I certainly can't defend their post launch support. It was easily the weakest and shortest lived of the three titles.

It's stretching to call keeping the servers working - "updating", but in my mind, keeping the servers working and still maintaining official tournaments in Society play is enough to elevate TGC 2019's status to something slightly ahead of abandoned. Winning Putt fits my definition of "abandoned", for what that's worth

"Slightly" indeed

For whatever reason I popped this into the PS4 today and I had forgotten, I guess, just how fun this game is and how well it plays a round of golf. Yes its cartoony and silly, but it does a good job of simulating the sport while making it so damn fun to play a round.

Oh, this game is absolutely amazing.

Honestly, I'll pop it in again soon, but I was a little dismayed at the fact that the coin collecting system (or whatever it was) isn't at all indicative of performance. Also, the club breaking thing got a little much for me.

Also also, the DLC courses didn't pop up enough in tournament rounds for me, which is too bad.

Definitely a great game, though! I sank many hours into this title.

This game almost made me break down and buy a ps vr. I feel virtual reality is something golf video games are missing out on. I mean how cool would be to play a 360 degree view at pebble beach in your own home?

It's a very well made game for what it is. I do find it lacking, in comparison to the two prior Hot Shot titles in the series... it doesn't feature the "Advanced Swing" options that Hot Shots Golf World Tour and Hot Shots Golf OOB. There was once "Advanced Swing" option that required you to watch the golfer animation, in real time, to time your button clicks to control power and accuracy. It made the swing feel more 'analog' to me, and made it more immersive because it was happening in real time.

I hate watching swing meters and I'm not a fan of 3-click interfaces when I'm playing a golf game. The fact that I could gauge my swing via the golfer animation in the two prior Hot Shots games was enough to make me set aside my dislike for 3-click swings and enjoy the plethora of things this game does right. I quit playing Everybody's Golf on the PS4 because I lost my tolerance for watching a meter in a non real time environment, even though once the shot is hit, it does a good job presenting it.

Probably my most played game on the PS4. Nearly four years later, and I still play it from time to time.

My ex roommate and I put countless HOURS into this game years ago. I remember the sun coming up some days and we're still playing.

Loved it so much bought it a few years ago.

Does that mean we can't play anymore at all???

I should have paid attention to this thread. I had no idea the servers went offline at the end of September. Now I'll forever have that message notification every time I boot the game up.

You can still play offline, but all the online modes are dead.

Maybe we'll get a sequel on the PS5.

That is pretty sad that they're dead. I honestly only stopped playing when I found out that coin collecting was not rewarded based on performance but simply based on "playing," but I've stopped playing games in general and everything has been on my backlog (due to work, life, concussions, disinterest, etc.) and new this was a game I wanted to go back to at some point.

Will our DLC still work?

# 540 LowerWolf @ 11/02/22 11:35 PM
Yeah, I’m still able to access the DLC.
