I hit rank 7 a few hours ago and it's pretty much as that post described (as far as I can tell without actually spending anything more than the 10 gems I'd collected around open courses).

It's disappointing and aggravating, but it's not going to stop me from having fun with the game - nobody really knows what the tournament structure is yet, and all you can really do right now is play one-off rounds while trying to improve your score. I'll save the real despair for when we find out the custom clubs can be used in tournament play. What will really be a shame is if the P2W trivializes the Championship tees, which bring quite a bit more challenge to some of the early courses.

I'll say this though - Imperial Garden is a TOUGH course that's going to require a lot more than bought skills in order to score well. enormous pot bunkers, extremely narrow fairways and greens that slope right down into watery dropoffs. It seems as challenging as any of the other final HSG courses I've played, and that's just on the regular tees.

The worst part of the whole thing is that it's hidden behind the endgame.
I'm a little bit surprised as I thought the $40 price point was more due to the amount of content available and additional content (courses specifically) will be made available as paid DLC. But I didn't think that the game will be all about p2w with respect to gameplay.

I'm still at Rank 2 and am finding the Kanaloa course challenging as it is with keeping the ball in the fairway a challenging ask. One more thing I've started noticing now is that the Perfect Impact while taking shots still leads to random results. Earlier I didn't see much of it as my player was poorly skilled with the clubs not having much of a carry. But now when I can drive the ball around 260-280 yards, and more if conditions are in my favor, it's becoming clear that Perfect Impact doesn't mean much. I lost to Rank 4 opponent yesterday (where hitting the Rough led to a +1 score) coz I hit Rough too many times despite nailing the 'Perfect Impact' (PI). Most of the times PI led to poorer shots than when I hit the ball with impact closer or on the pink zone. This randomization has disappointed me more than p2w aspect TBH. Even off the tee shots (where lie is not a factor) and taking wind into consideration you see PI shots being sliced or hook - look at the bottom left screen after hitting the shot and watch that most of PI shots are not in the middle of the club and towards right (slice) or left (hook) of the club leading to the ball ending up in unintentional areas. Hope this is patched coz it's beginning to ruin the gameplay for me.

So that 360 yard drive or whatever will own the early courses, but without control you'd stand no chance on the later ones - or at least I'd like to think so.

There's a lot we don't know about this yet because people are only starting to hit the endgame now. Not going to panic just yet. I'm not justifying P2W by any stretch, just want to make sure that's what this truly is.

Also, the 10 gems I had on hand gave me one level and not 2. And the levels I had gained on my clubs up to this point still matter because they're still levelling up if I use the custom ones. Club type enhances those levelled stats - no matter whether it's big air, Pinhole....or custom. So it's not "**** those clubs" as that poster said. In fact, his whole concept of the customization structure might be completely wrong if he thinks you're leveling an entire new set of clubs with those gems like you've been building levels through the game.
Apparently, you basically roll dice when upgrading the custom clubs. Which means your set may come out better or worse than someone else's. However, you can recycle and start from scratch and go for a better set. The bottom line is someone who wants to plug more money in can have more chances for a better set of clubs and of course simply have an advantage over other players.

I don't care if this is a $40 game vs $60 game. It's a retail title and it's pay to win and it wasn't advertised as such. This is mind-boggling awful on a console. I expect this on brain-dead mobile titles but not for mainstream console games. I think reviews ignored or were not aware of this. This game should not be recommended as-is.

How many Gems does it cost to upgrade the Clubs?

I am not happy about their system, but I know you can find gems on every item hole in every Nine Hole Lobby. I have only played the Bonus one every day but I am up to around 15.

It would take you awhile to farm all those gems but as long as it doesn't cost too much I won't really have a big problem with it (unless you tell me it's something like 100 or 1,000 gems to upgrade)

Finally got the preorder bonus from Best Buy. Fourth time was a charm, lol.

Just had my best game, 6 Eagles and 12 under par. I am getting there.

Finally finished off the "campaign" for Single Player. Unlocked the Custom Clubs now I just gotta get all those darn Gallery members...

They mentioned something about the Custom Clubs degrading so you have to repair them and also recycle them at some point. I wonder how many people will be willing to keep spending real money on stuff that degrades in game (if that's truly how it works)

I totally missed the release date for this. Just drove to Best Buy and picked it up. Installing now.

Input lag is seemingly nonexistent on my TV, awesome! I'll have to check with Remote Play later.

I was able to create my character, play an unofficial 9-hole and an official 9-hole. I got -8 the first time, and -5 the second time (should have been -6, but I botched a putt). Got a hole-in-one on a Par 3.

After I set up my tee, is it possible for me to remove it thereafter? I can't seem to find the right button combo. I guess if I want to preview the course I have to sprint out there and check it out? Maybe pressing the touchpad to see the map still works then, I'll have to see for sure.

Super fun and addicting game, this is.

If you're on the online open course or in a challenge tournament, you can click L3 to back out of address and move around the course. Circle takes you back to address.

That'll play.

Got in trouble on my 2nd shot on 4 and was lucky to save par. The rest was pretty much perfect.

Big air clubs, grade 1.

Because the calendar just flipped for the servers to the 4th. I hopped on the bonus course as soon as it did.

I already had the Green C.C. DLC Course from preordering the game so I decided to buy the Balata C.C. DLC Course and give both a go earlier today.

Green Country Club: I love this Course. Last year I actually hunted down the original Hot Shots Golf on Playstation to complete my collection and the music for this course will always be stuck in my head. It's not challenging at all and the greens are mostly flat but at the lower price I could still recommend purchasing it if you ever played the original.

Balata Country Club: While it's not a BAD course I am very 'meh' about it. It costs a little more than Green C.C. but I think it's the worse of the two. I know the course is from Hot Shots Golf 2 but it just isn't really memorable to me. The music is alright but the course is also very easy like Green C.C. even though the greens have a little more to them. I would actually not recommend this course at the price it currently sits at. If you already have Green C.C. and still want to spend some money on the Store I would probably go with the Jeep-looking Golf Cart. Looks class.

I also recorded a round on both courses if anyone wants to see them before purchasing either one if you don't have them.

I had no idea there were pre-order bonuses, or I would have done that a long time ago.

Currently I just have the Eagle City 9-hole course. How do I go about unlocking others?

You unlock them by ranking up offline. You rank up after beating the 3 VS Characters on each rank.

Thanks. Is the DLC also unlockable through playing, or would I just have to purchase it?

When the wife and I play this game against each other is there a way to use our created characters and gain EXP and/or coins or do we have to just use the generic pre-made characters?

When in a game room with friends playing a round of golf, there is a countdown clock for each shot. That is alright but if you bring up the menu, pausing the game effectively the clock still counts down. This means that you cannot stop playing until the finish, this i find very irritating.

When you hit rank 3 where is the special item located? I find it annoying you have to hunt for them.
