Madden NFL 17 News Post


Madden NFL 17 title update #2 is available now for Xbox One and PlayStation 4, it includes fixes to gameplay, franchise, and Ultimate Team modes. Check out the details below.

Gameplay
  • Tuned Wide Receivers dropping wide open passes to be less frequent
  • Auto-Moves now set to OFF for all MUT Solo Challenges
  • Player-Lock camera fixes
  • Tuned Auto-Broken Tackles to be less frequent
  • Variety of defensive run-game tuning fixes
  • Strip-Ball exploit fixed
  • Fixed issue around clock running out on a defensive penalty
  • Fixed issue with QB’s unable to tackle after throwing an Interception
  • Fixed a variety of rare Special Teams issues
  • Defensive tuning vs. stretch/outside zone runs
  • Addressed a variety of fatigue-related issues
  • Nano-detection System improvements
  • Nano-detection System disabled for user vs. CPU games
  • Fixed 'Ice the Kicker' not functioning in certain situations
  • Addressed users holding kick button to take a delay penalty and re-kicking
  • Fixed issue with user not being able to switch players in co-op play
  • Tuned to WR/DB positioning on streak routes
  • Tuning & Adaptive AI to Linebacker fake-out chances vs. counter plays to make defensive reaction better

Franchise
  • Added ability to save/resume solo Cloud Franchise games
  • Head to head Cloud games will now default to the standard camera
  • Fixed issue where players on IR were counting against active roster
  • Fixed issue where user to user trades could be auto accepted when week advances
  • Many stats and ratings menus are now in widescreen format
  • Fixed issue where some heads appeared incorrect while editing
  • Addressed stability issues in Play the Moment, Training, Formation Subs, and Schemes
  • Fixed issue where some players with preexisting injuries would never return to health
  • Addressed issue where stats are not showing properly when viewed on team goals menu
  • Tuned game regression that can occur for quarterbacks
  • Fixed issue where defensive rookie of the year can show up as offensive player of the year
  • Removed ability for kneeling QBs to be hurt while simminng
  • Adjusted fatigue during Play the Moments
  • Punter stats are now visible in the menus
  • Draft Classes will now have varying penalty traits
  • Highlights menu is now available when ending the game on a simmed play
  • Going for it on 4th downs in Play the Moments have been tuned

Ultimate Team
  • Added the ability to add multiple items to a set at once (“Batch-Add-to-Set”)
  • Improved MUT substitution screen UI
  • Chemistry art modifications (larger images!!)
  • Addressed the issue where filters in the Auction House would disappear
  • Addressed the issue where the “Unopened Packs” tile would show 0 even if you had packs unopened
  • Surfaced the “restart” button when failing a Solo Challenge
  • Game speed is set to default for all difficulties including Rookie and Pro (no longer “Slow”)
  • Auto Subs in MUT Solo Challenges are now working correctly

I'm seeing more fumble in the field of play by other skill position players though, but it's good, you need to pay attention to covering up the ball and avoiding the big hit/strip a lot more now.

Others may have a different perception, but these are other gameplay observations that I have:

Kicking does seem a little easier, but I need to kick some more FGs to be sure.

All players with the ball seem to fight for more yardage now. They don't necessary break the tackle but they will get fall forward or get an extra yard or two before going down. This really helps decrease the TFL numbers as RBs will get back to the LOS more instead of losing two yards. I felt like I won more Tackle battles too. There is less all or nothing in the run game now.

The WRs on my team catch better now, they're more like the CPU in that they can make some tough catches 1 on 1 now, but still will drop the ball if there are multiple defenders around.

My defenders play the ball in the air a lot better now. DB's for both teams seem to be to recover better on the deep ball if they lose the press battle.

Would still like to see all receivers run better routes near the sidelines still too many plays where their momentum just carries them out of bounds.

CPU still playing too much press coverage with cover 1 or 0 in the middle of the field.

The grounding plays seem less overt, the passes all seem to be near a WR now, but I'd like more movement by the QB and the passes to be a little less "uncatchable"

Scrambling is still not where it needs to be, Wilson had a couple of runs, but they weren't as decisive as they should have been.

For the User shading inside and out side still doesn't seem to work. I feel like it has always worked for the CPU though.

Overall I think the update improved the gameplay in a lot of ways, and I'm going to keep playing this game to death.
Did the CPU punters have wind-related kicking issues in the games you played? I will also start testing for this myself when I get home. Talking about the pop-up punts that go 20 yards or the 75 yarders going in the other direction. Thanks

Played a half and saw some 75 yard punts. Something may be up with punts in this patch

It's been YEARS that this issue is present. If it is finally fixed I would be beside myself. I can't tell you how much that has annoyed me over the years...

Heck I might even go get that glass of ice water in hell if this is the case. Right after that pisshole in a snow bank actually amounts to something.

Seriously though, if this is finally fixed I would be elated.
At a minimum players come out of the game properly. Not sure about dissappearing yet

I'm already disable the Internet connection on my ps4. Started madden and no patch update. So I'm good the game plays great without the tuner. And I guess I will never know about the patch. There are a few things I will be missing but it not worth the risk.

They say that the tuner is downloading even with the patch. Maybe the tuner is not attached to the patch? I'm wondering if you could update and get the patch fixes and delete the tuner and get the gameplay we get now with the patches fixes.

It's a different tuner. I already had the tuner. This morning I downloaded the patch then when I started the game up it asked me to download a tuner. Not sure what it is

This is my first madden in a few years. Do i have to start a new offline cfm for the changes to take place?

I started a new Dynasty and play first match. First impresions:

- Formation subs works for me, with a custom playbook (FIXED??)
- IR doesnt count for the total players, because of this..the cpu dont cut players in Preseason W4 (FIXED)
- CPU punt low with wind in front and normal with the wind in favor, no sky punt. (FIXED??)
- Wind arrow is now correct, right direction
- Human QB (Bradford) fail more with pressure.
- I see a QB fumble...but i´m passing...my fail
- I fell running plays more natural.
- CPU play a lot of different plays, incluiding a FG fake
- CPU defense feel harder
- Pursuit is better now

Its only a match...but i feel it better. i play with Charter´s Slider Set.
Note: Horrible lost against Titans with unstoppable offense and 4 picks

It doesn't. RB is a pass option in some formation. It has no other effect while passing

Oh great....

I saw the note regarding "fixing" something that would result in causing more interceptions and wondered what the problem was in the first place.

Interceptions were one thing I did not have an issue with on either side of the ball. Seemed to be working out great previous to the patch.

Hopefully turning the slider down can keep it in check.

no.

but to see the changes in the draft classes, you'll probably have to wait until the next new draft class is generated.

I've seen two statements regarding the CPU cutting players...any other observations on this? I've got a CFM saved where this comes into play but I won't be able to load it up for a couple of hours.

Just finished my second game and lost 42-28 to the Seahawks. Kind of a weird game where they ended up at 42 because of a missed 2-pt. and five FG's but it was a lot different than the Broncos game I played. Couldn't get much going on offense and was down 21-0 early. Scored a couple late TD's to make it close.

After two games it definitely feels like the game is playing better than pre-patch. I was ready to hang it up yesterday but these two games have been fun. My defense (and defense as a whole) seems to be reacting much better to the pass and run. I'm seeing DB's make plays on routes and the ball that I wasn't seeing before. I think outside CB's are playing the run a bit too strong for my taste but I'm not sure whether it might have more to do with how WR's can't really block or not though. Defense overall just seems better which is nice because it doesn't feel so much like I'm getting screwed rather than getting beat. I gave up 42 points but felt like my defense played fine. Gave up a bunch of points off turnovers and couldn't stop the run which was nice.

Another that I'm noticing that is better but I didn't see in the patch notes was that RB's seem a lot better at staying on their feet and not ragdolling to the ground when they make contact with anything. Pre-patch there were a ton of times where both user and CPU RB's would run into the back of lineman or reached out arms of the DL and just collapse or go into dead mode where they just fall to the ground. In my last too games I've noticed more "grinding" and bouncing off which is really nice.

QB play is still a big issue for me. Russell Wilson had 9 incompletions in the game and five were throwaways. I wouldn't have a problem with them so much if they made sense and happened in better situations. It seems like when the QB is out of the pocket and you'd expect them to throw it away, they hang on to the ball and take sacks. Wilson moved quite a bit, sometimes in a weird way where basically as soon as the ball was snapped he would immediately move to the right, same thing was happening with Simian. Had an absolutely horrible AI play in the 3rd quarter, I'll let it speak for itself:



Stuff like that can't be happening. That was by far the worst from the game. Had another sack-fumble, this time on my end. Same issue with them as the throwaways, if they happened organically or as a result of the arm getting hit then that's fine. But when you get just get hit and as soon as contact is made the ball just falls out of the QB's hands like he lost all strength in his body it's very frustrating to watch. Had a bit of an odd play where the Hawks ran a streak to Baldwin who had a good cushion from my CB Gaines and Baldwin looked like he got a huge speed boost to make the catch for an 89-yard score. He ate up the cushion and then just blew right by Gaines even though Gaines was running deep the whole time, looked really odd. I've fumbled four times in two games now two on big hits, one on a strip, and one on a sack-fumble.

Side note, really enjoying the game without commentary. Going to play another game and continue impressions.

  • Am I missing something or does the Man Align adjustment not work at all? There's still issues with the Auto-Flip and 3 receivers to one side where you'll end up with a player in man coverage on a receiver on the other side of the field and when I do the man align adjustment, nobody moves at all.
  • Slight frustration but I really wish I could pick the kick return of my choosing and that fourth downs didn't default to suggestions. Also don't understand why they keep making kicking easier. Has to be online play because offline for me feels absolutely automatic.
  • Wind indicator was correct in the game I played. Don't know if that was fixed or not but it was working properly.

Might have to adjust some sliders but this game was a lot more fun than the game I played yesterday. Didn't have any "WTF" moments but I'm going to play another game against the Seahawks now and see how it goes.
I have had issues with "Man Align" not working correctly also; very frustrating. I believe this is a priority fix..

I am also not seeing my team shading inside or outside, while I can see that the CPU shades inside and out; this makes me question how well Over and Under shading really works.

I think the over/under works well enough.

The inside/outside ...... I don't think it's ever worked for the human side.
