NBA 2K17 News Post

Innovation. Authenticity. Engagement.

These are the three tenets that the franchise team has been working under for the last couple of years, and it has produced some truly unique content. We have another feature set this year that will both challenge the norm and continue to drive this portion of the sports gaming industry.

The people I am fortunate enough to work with on the MyGM/MyLEAGUE team are of a different ilk. Intense…is the word I would use to describe them. To Dave Z, Tim, Brad, Barry, Leftos, Yu, and Kefei, I salute you. For everyone else out there, let’s go learn what these fine folks have created for you this year!

I’m going to write this blog a little differently than I have in the past. We covered a lot of ground this year. I want to make sure you can understand the breadth of our scope this year, so I am going to write this in more of a list format so you can quickly consume what we have been up to. Without much further ado…

For an offline customized league, would I be able to add in all 10 created expansion teams into my league? 36 teams in league plus 4 other teams replaced by the expansion teams. EX; Replacing Cleveland Cavaliers with Cincinnati Lions? Or in order to use all 10 teams would I have to create two different custom leagues, 5 in one, 5 in another or 6 in one, 4 in another etc.?

Agreed. Awesome we have that ability, but definitely worrisome having to depend on the servers.

Well, that was pretty ****ing impressive. Wow... Thanks, guys.

I feel like you made that "Start from the off-season" stuff specifically for us Thunder fans.

We love MyLEAGUE Online, we absolutely do, which is why we didn't start with Online Association as a base last year. We wanted something awesome and stable. And this year we wanted to bring in a lot of features from the offline experience that were missing, and we absolutely had to add multi-year progression. However, when it came down to the nitty-gritty, full CBA/contract/money support would be too much work for this year. There's a lot of aspects to it, from deferred negotiation responses during the season, to all the admin tools we'd need to add to make sure the league doesn't get stuck because a user won't make a decision, to all the offseason time periods...

Now, I'm not allowed to make any promises, nor do I want to, but I just want to make it clear that when we want to get there. When that will happen, I don't know. But I know that everyone on the team wanted to get there, but for this year, we figured out something that would take a realistic amount of time to implement and that would be fun.

One aspect missing from Erick's blog is how your keepers/protected players affect your draft presence. There's two different settings on how that works:

Bottom of Draft: All your protected players occupy the bottom picks of the draft.

Overall Ranking Buckets: Your protected players occupy picks in the draft based on their overall ranking. Any top 30 player is a guaranteed 1st round pick lost. A second top 30 player protected would make you lose your 2nd round pick. A player ranked between 91-120 would be a 4th round pick lost, and so on. So there's a game there in researching who's available in the draft and deciding which rounds you're willing to give up on to protect the players that are most important to you.

Our initial default was "Bottom of Draft", but we changed it to "Overall Ranking Buckets" after our very first playtest, since it made things way more intriguing and forced you to strategize.

We sincerely hope you enjoy MyLEAGUE Online as much as we did playtesting it. And if you know the team Erick B./SimBaller assembled late in the 2K14 cycle and have been paying attention to how much MyLEAGUE and MyGM have grown since 2K15 onwards, you know we're nowhere near done.

Thanks for your hard work, it really felt like us online leagues have been ignored the past years. I am glad that you guys know our wants and hopefully next year we could get the full offline experience but online. I know I've been critical of 2k I lines lgs but I appreciate the honesty and transparency.. I think that's all the community really wanted.

One question I have from your quote is keeper value, what if you have let's say for an easy argument the Warriors with several players in top 30,60,90. I'm sure klay, kd, curry are all top 30, would they occupy your first three rounds? I'm glad you guys added this feature instead of last rounds, it really adds a level of strategy.

Yeah, if you have multiple players occupying the same 30 overall ranking spots, they'll take up subsequent rounds' picks in the draft. So keeping 3 top 30 players would force you to miss out on picking any players during the first 3 rounds.

Can we edit staff contracts?

Assuming that we would be able to start a MyLeague at any time during the season as stated in the blog, roster updates would HAVE to come out daily. From the past, I'm not sure that's something you guys have been fully able to do.

Is it possible to add alternate uniforms for our rebranded teams in 2k18?

No alternates. It was def on the wish list, but just getting the up to 36 took an obnoxious amount of time.

"To clarify, customization is a MyLEAGUE/MyGM feature, it's just that after you edit more than 3 teams (which was the limit last year), your console needs to be online for that save because we use some server-side storage to make sure this works on all platforms even with the storage space limitations imposed by Microsoft and Sony."

Ok. That makes a lot more sense. So hopefully, I could run, say like a standard 30 team league on Xbox, but I need to edit nearly all the unis, logos, and courts for like a 1998 season. The only caveat is my save has to be online after the 3 limit to make sure it's all good. I think I got that down.

Yes this or patch it in this year.

In mylg online the admin can update the rosters manually. Guess those roster update websites will become a bookmark. Ha. Glad there is a way to have 1 mylg file and still keep the rosters updated. 2k has solved my biggest issue. Thanks for the hardwork.

You can only add 6 pre-built teams to a league. You can edit the Cleveland Cavs to be something else, but you can't use a pre-built team to do it.

You also can add the 6 to the league and then replace 4 of them with the other remaining pre-built teams at any point if you just wanted to see them all.

Good stuff here and glad to see many of those initiatives from a few years back finally getting 100% implementation now. Question: what all can be edited from toggled edit screen? Just ratings? Tendencies? Other areas? Please give a lil insight.

Just the player's attributes plus position and first/last name. No tendencies, badges, accessories, hot zones, contract, etc.

To the manual jersey retirements/unretirements brought up earlier, I'd definitely like to see this added in the future. Same goes for alternate jerseys for custom teams. I also one day like to somehow manually set/adjust rivalries for custom leagues.

Overall though, this is simply a case of the best just getting better. While I sometimes have doubts and concerns about other modes/feature, with offline My League, I know I can just kick back and bask in the awesome.

Another question, when controlling all 30 teams does the draft now allow you to simulate some picks and manually pick others or will it continue to make you select all or sim all?
