NBA 2K16 News Post

NBA 2K16 patch #4 is available for PlayStation 4, weighing in at 2.4GB. The same patch is scheduled to be released for PC and Xbox One very soon. Once they release, we will update this post.

UPDATE: Patch #4 is available for PC and Xbox One now.

Check out the patch notes below and let us know what you are seeing!

GENERAL
  • Addressed a hang that can occur when editing/applying tattoos in Edit Player.
  • Resolved a bug where one or more users in a co-op game would lose control of their player at some point during the game.
  • Fixed a disconnect issue that some users were seeing during online games.
  • (PC) Fixed a corruption issue where some users were experiencing hangs, missing art assets, and infinite loads. Please ensure that your virus scanning software (e.g. Avast) whitelists your Steam folder/directory. This is required for new content to properly download and install.
  • Closed a loophole where the pause timer would stop counting down when sitting in the ‘Report Image’ flow.
  • Improved the user interface when applying contracts to players in MyTEAM by removing the display of how many contracts the player would have IF the current card was applied.
  • Fixed a case where the user accepting an online invite would sometimes skip the position selection screen in the way into matchmaking.
  • Headwear should now properly unequip when attempting to do so from within the MyPARK Apparel section of the store.
  • The player portrait will now update when a new user is signed in on the main menu via the account picker.
  • A number of other optimizations and enhancements have been made to improve the user experience.
GAMEPLAY
  • Teammate free throw celebration/interaction behaviors have been corrected.
  • Slightly tuned down the frequency of ball collisions.
  • Fixed an issue that led to a temporary loss of user control on possession changes while in the 2K Cam.
  • Tuned down the frequency of missed alley-oop and putback dunks when open.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed high rated post players to shoot post fadeaway 3's at a high percentage.
MyCAREER/MyPARK/MyCOURT
  • Fixed a rare issue where the game would hang when Doris Burke interviews your MyPLAYER at the end of the first half and/or at the end of the game.
  • The correct records and rep levels will now be shown for the players on the MyPARK loading screen.
  • Corrected the wall and floor art for the San Antonio Spurs theme in MyCOURT.
  • Fixed a case where some purchased shoes were not properly appearing on the shoe racks in MyCOURT.
MyGM/MyLEAGUE
  • Resolved a hang that could occur many, many years into MyGM when entering the offseason.
  • Generated players will now wear the correct color socks for away games.
  • Fixed an issue where generated players were getting their free throw animations randomized every offseason.
  • The Strengths/Weaknesses screen in Team Comparison should now be functioning properly once again.
NOTE: All patch fixes will work in your existing game mode saves (unless specifically noted otherwise).

Patch is not bad...

I definitely miss the weight and overpowering effect of posting up a smaller player with a big though. Post-up moves seemed to take a hit for some reason even though they seemed properly balanced before. I wish the more you understood how to work the post, the better your results... Not the opposite.

On-ball defense has improved for this patch; you can create more contact for reckless driving again and the elite defenders feel special! The shooting being tuned is fine but I wish they would revert them back to original settings with the minor touch-up in the mid-range category that they did, as that was the least amount of complaints or leave it the same the rest of the year.

Always funny how different experiences can be...I don't think I've had an issue on the inside with my center since launch, lol

Im def struggling with shooting though...

I'm really enjoying defending the paint

Yeah this is the first time with my big where the post game isn't fun. It almost feels pointless. I had a few nice blocks yesterday on some centers but guards were dunking on me like prime Vince Carter

Maybe today will be better. I played about 20 + pro am games since the update. I've Lost only about 3 games since the patch but still ...

As far as blowing by guys, I'm assuming you guys aren't playing SS/SIM? because it feels like they boosted everyone's OBD on that setting....it actually feels more like it did out of box....minus the warping- which is honestly pretty annoying now that we've come this far....lol

Even with the complaints- having a lot of fun playing

I could not agree more. On SS/Sim is very tough to exploit isolation plays, pump fakes and transition offense.

Transition defense has clearly improved after missed shots. Even though bad transition defense is still there after made buckets. Centers gravitate near the baseline, inside passes and cuts early in the shot clock are the worst part of the gameplay. After more games played I’ve noticed that square button steals can easily replace those bump steals (we have to adjust, stealing is fine on drives). The ball comes loose at the same rate, we just have to do it manually. However, I feel that patch 4 has made full court pressing/trapping defense useless. I don’t know why I should play full court if the other team is able to pass half court with ease.

But I’m pretty sure that full court pressing/trapping is going to be reviewed going forward (2k17, 2k18, etc.). Pressing/trapping leads the opposition to easy points (more online than offline).

IMHO shooting is perfect near the rim (contact layups in particular). As I said a couple of days ago, numbers are close to real life counterparts. The only issue is that primary and secondary fastbreak wide-open three-pointers (even from the corner - feet set) have been lowered. I think they deliberately limited run&gun offense. I love that but in my opinion they exaggerated and took it completely out of the game.

Agreed with both bolded quotes. I love the game, and please 2K settle with some shooting settings!

I just gotta readjust my game to patch 4 playing down low then I'll be fine . I'm very good in the high post as A PF so I'll spend more time there. I also need the guys I'm playing with to adjust their game lol

I spend my time between two positions so it's a little tougher to get a feel for a patch that changes the whole game like they do.

If we run big, I'll play center at 7'3 and my friend slides down to pf at 7'1. We never have to worry about protecting the paint then, because usually one of us will trigger an animation where the other one can come weakside and send the shot outta bounds.

But the real problem is one on one, like you said, I can defend big men but when guards come in it's like 15 again where I'm just completely whiffing on blocks...
It's frustrating because it used to be great sending everything away...Had games where I'd get triple doubles with blocks.

As for our normal lineup tho..

We usually have a 6'3 pg, 6'6 sg, me at 6'10 for sf, and our 7'1 center.

Our point is fine because he never shoots, averages at least 15 assists a game. But me and our sg are struggling to get our shots up. He used to be able to cross someone and hit a deep mid range consistently but now he has like 35% shooting games.

To answer your question earlier, my sf has max shooting max athleticism max inside and max defense.
So he (was) able to play inside out, either spotting up for 3's or inside hitting fades and hooks.
I was using the one jumpshot that looks like Rashard Lewis' release, but that stopped working so now I'm using Aldridge.

I have all the shooting badges and I get the same looks..just like, the past 5 games I've been so off.

And yea like you said, we still been winning the games it's just changing to a style I don't like anymore. We won't get rewarded for moving the ball as much and we don't get them nasty post moves when we exploit bad mismatches.

Kinda off the topic, but I was thinking of playing walk on to maybe get in a better rhythm post patch...but it never starts. It'll get to 10 people then start dropping guys till everyone quits.

Will they ever let you be able to steal passes in this game oh my god man. Every ****ing pass goes through your hands and whenever you get a tip the offensive player gets a speed boost to get the ball back.

What the **** man? It's like they hate defense over there at 2K.

Anybody notice a lot of shots going in and out in Offline play or is it just me?

# 310 sportsgamer5761 @ 12/19/15 04:51 PM
So, after going back and forth, I really do NOT like this patch. Before the fourth patch was released, I won about 50-60% of my games (moving between All-Star Sim and Superstar Sim), but since the patch, I am....wait for it...1-14. I mean, I am TERRIBLE. The last game I played (Pacers vs. Grizzlies, Play Now mode), I was down 19-5 before I gave up and hit reset. That being said, I'm not here to whine, or say how much the game sucks, I'm just frustrated that the patch has changed so dramatically what was possibly the best sports game ever.
P.S. My NBA Today hasn't updated since the patch downloaded. Is anyone else seeing this?

# 311 TheDuggler @ 12/19/15 04:57 PM
How can you use your personal losing streak as a reason to dislike the patch?

# 312 sportsgamer5761 @ 12/19/15 05:04 PM
I think you misunderstood. As I said, I'm not here to whine about a losing streak. I was just using the drastic change in my record since the patch to show how much this patch has changed a game that really didn't need to be changed. But hey, if you love the patch, that's cool. Not saying you shouldn't. Just expressing the opinion that I, personally, do not.

It's the first time I was able to hold CPU under %40 shooting. ( all-star 12min) And now I think shooting percentages are a lot better. You guys are used to high stats and feel like you can't hit anything. Please 2k don't change the shooting for offline modes. It's perfect as It is.

Yes my friend I'm on Superstar mode and I'm trying to find that balance for the cpu to play better defense..

At times I'm blowing by the cpu and I'm like Hmmmm maybe it was a fluke and then it happens again aND again.

Now I'm one of 2k biggest supporters I hardly ever complain but this blow by for me just stands out sometimes to often...otherwise great patch!!!!

  • Loving the contact layups success rates
  • CPU on ball defense was definitely upped. I played a couple games before and after patch with the same teams IND and DAL and noticed that Dirk's OBD was improved post patch
  • They improved most of the transition defense issues but I guess they had to leave some of it in because bad transition defense does occur in the NBA.
4 Things from a gameplay standpoint and I think this would be perfection

1. Off ball defense awareness by CPU teammates in the paint is just bad. Passing in the paint is just too easy because of this your teammates just out of position too often.

2. Warping balls, physics almost there but still too much of it and not enough consistent penalty for running directly into players

3. 50-50 balls do not exist against the CPU. The most ridiculous blocks, steals are immediately caught by the CPU with this instant reaction which looks so unrealistic. I don't know why this must be in the game.

4. Rebounding physics just not right and the game will stop you from jumping to make the rebound go where it needs to go because the CPU has to get the rebound. It takes the randomness out of the game and you are literally powerless at times.

Besides that the game is very nice . Haven't played online yet because I ran into a couple OKC users prepatch that wanted to play Westbrook and KD the whole game. They left a sour taste for playing a bunch of online play now

What have YOU done to end up getting worse after the patch?

Does play in my court work ? Keeps lagging everyone out

My shooting success has suffered in Patch 4 but I'm seeing others succeed.

Remember that the shot% can be tuned via server side now without application of a patch.

I conceded to tweaking my Jumpshot release and Jumpshot timing.

Yeah, I know. But he'll usually mess w/ it after a patch. I don't know man. I'm scared to even shoot wide open midranges now. Never seen so many green releases miss.

Game is flowing really well on SS/SIM. Had a nice game against the Wiz where they were pretty much off the whole game. It's nice having that kind of variety. Just about a wall to wall victory here.
