NBA 2K16 News Post

NBA 2K16 patch #4 is available for PlayStation 4, weighing in at 2.4GB. The same patch is scheduled to be released for PC and Xbox One very soon. Once they release, we will update this post.

UPDATE: Patch #4 is available for PC and Xbox One now.

Check out the patch notes below and let us know what you are seeing!

GENERAL
  • Addressed a hang that can occur when editing/applying tattoos in Edit Player.
  • Resolved a bug where one or more users in a co-op game would lose control of their player at some point during the game.
  • Fixed a disconnect issue that some users were seeing during online games.
  • (PC) Fixed a corruption issue where some users were experiencing hangs, missing art assets, and infinite loads. Please ensure that your virus scanning software (e.g. Avast) whitelists your Steam folder/directory. This is required for new content to properly download and install.
  • Closed a loophole where the pause timer would stop counting down when sitting in the ‘Report Image’ flow.
  • Improved the user interface when applying contracts to players in MyTEAM by removing the display of how many contracts the player would have IF the current card was applied.
  • Fixed a case where the user accepting an online invite would sometimes skip the position selection screen in the way into matchmaking.
  • Headwear should now properly unequip when attempting to do so from within the MyPARK Apparel section of the store.
  • The player portrait will now update when a new user is signed in on the main menu via the account picker.
  • A number of other optimizations and enhancements have been made to improve the user experience.
GAMEPLAY
  • Teammate free throw celebration/interaction behaviors have been corrected.
  • Slightly tuned down the frequency of ball collisions.
  • Fixed an issue that led to a temporary loss of user control on possession changes while in the 2K Cam.
  • Tuned down the frequency of missed alley-oop and putback dunks when open.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed high rated post players to shoot post fadeaway 3's at a high percentage.
MyCAREER/MyPARK/MyCOURT
  • Fixed a rare issue where the game would hang when Doris Burke interviews your MyPLAYER at the end of the first half and/or at the end of the game.
  • The correct records and rep levels will now be shown for the players on the MyPARK loading screen.
  • Corrected the wall and floor art for the San Antonio Spurs theme in MyCOURT.
  • Fixed a case where some purchased shoes were not properly appearing on the shoe racks in MyCOURT.
MyGM/MyLEAGUE
  • Resolved a hang that could occur many, many years into MyGM when entering the offseason.
  • Generated players will now wear the correct color socks for away games.
  • Fixed an issue where generated players were getting their free throw animations randomized every offseason.
  • The Strengths/Weaknesses screen in Team Comparison should now be functioning properly once again.
NOTE: All patch fixes will work in your existing game mode saves (unless specifically noted otherwise).

Fouls should be in the game (and they are and depend on tendencies more than ever) but what bothers me is that feeling of lack of user imput. Right now they are the most random part of the game...

L2/LT + no right stick or triangle button imput should not cause a foul in most cases. It is not formally a shot contest imput. Personally i would accept the current situation without complaints if there were offensive fouls called with the same ramdomness...

Turn off Intense-D or Always auto shot contest and watch your bailout fouls disappear. I did this a few days ago, took a while to get used to it but I get way more blocks now and far fewer fouls

I play on Superstar and I rarely see these issues.

Are you on Hall of Fame? Or are you just trying to take every defender one on one with dribble moves?

This.....cuts the bailout foul issue in half. You'll give up some points learning timing but once you get it you're good to go....

SS/SIM is playing really nice though.....getting comfortable with the changes

I’ve always played without assists and/or automatic shot contests. Yesterday I had a flagrant called despite I wasn’t contesting the shot at all (no right stick – no triangle – only L2/LT).

From my experience playing on manual drastically reduces fouls on jump shots. The problem is under the rim.

Flagrants area really nice touch but 1 minute an animation is a flagrant and the same animation the next minute is not even called a foul .

It sounds good pity that there isn't any officiating dynamic behind it...

Also Intense D is pressure sensitive . The harder the press the more intense from my understanding .

My problem is on defense I can't think to NOT press L2 too hard and it doesn't help that I don't use the vertical contest (left stick away from shooter + triangle ) I'm always pressing the stick TOWARDS. The defender with L2 pressed all the way down . It causes me to foul way too much on shots I shouldn't have too .

i seldom press L2 these days even when attempting block. only use that when play on-ball defense. i switch alot on and off to look out for my cpu defenders incase they overhelp or silly stand below the basket.

i am on manual, not intense D. and i dont get alot of fouls. so far one bail out foul in a game. vertical contest and Right stick away from the opponent are my controls.

You will be bad for a while, and then you will get better. Nobody who has been using auto contest switches and then is amazing at it, takes a few games to click.

Glad to know Im not the only 1 who felt this, although it only seems to be with the latest roster update, when I use a older roster its back to normal. Hope they can slow it down with another roster update. Now players are like on skates, like it use to be with previos years games, where you had practically no control over your players. Id say this is something that can probably be tuned in a roster update, so hope it happens soon, like tomorrow would be nice

It's funny. Two days ago, I told one of my friends that this NBA 2K16 was probably the best sports videogame I've ever played. It seemed to be a huge improvement over the last few years' versions. Now (and I know it's a small sample size, but it doesn't look promising), after this patch, I find that it plays almost identically to the last few versions that I hated (for instance, the CPU is running the 'I'm going to put my head down and drive' offense again). Honestly, if I didn't enjoy NBA Today mode so much, I'd just delete the patch. I've loved the game since purchase, so I'm not giving up, but this patch has taken it from 'best sports game ever' to 'I have to look for a slider set'. That's kind of sad.

Shooting - I think we should specify which aspect we are talking about: numbers and/or perception. In my opinion, percentages are better than ever. I’ve seen an average of 44-45-46% from the field. Percentages alone are near the perfection, is the development of those numbers that I do not completely like. Last tuning is a good step forward (maybe it needs more balance: I have seen many reversed/unexpected outcomes but at the end of the day numbers are fantastic).

Transition defense – They were able to cut down final scores (FINALLY). The pace of the game is now pretty solid and final scores (48 minutes games) are PERFECT (obviously it is also due to tuned percentages). I’m wondering why they did not put it in patch notes. I mean the improvement of transition defense is so evident.

Bump stealing – I hate the change they made. I play mainly offline and lowered bump stealing is allowing the CPU to get away with drives that should have been stopped. The CPU now never turns the ball over. But I ultimately think that this will be the focus for NBA2k17. We need a smarter and humanized AI. The CPU is too consistent in many areas of the game. The AI should be smarter but at the same time able to make dumb mistakes (the CPU is now too consistent taking care of the ball). User and CPU should be punish when attacking the basket with reckless abandon.

On ball defense – Contacts and bumps are returned to the initial level even though crossovers and moves are a bit underpowered (especially against the AI).

Defensive awareness – Centers are still gravitating out of bounds. Defenders leave their man open again (fortunately not at the previous rate).

Game variety – It’s a small sample size, but I have seen more close games (less blowouts, if you prefer). On one hand I’m loving it because weaker teams can now compete, but on the other game variety seems reduced.

However the gameplay on superstar/hof simulation against the AI is better than ever...best offline experience ever (and after patch 4 it's not even close...)
yeah, I'm not seeing any improvements to transition defense, at least not online. It's still as terrible as it was in Patch 3, not to mention defenders still don't get back on defense quick enough after a made bucket.

I think this is an ACE issue. There was already one update per Czar to fix big touches so hopefully the next brings some more normalcy. I've def seen what you've described when the patch first dropped. Seems a good bit better now.

This game is not good right now. The gameplay alone is crazy. I have a great record and have been a good 2k player. Plz explain how do you miss shots wide open and green meter or in the middle. Its lke the games purposely making you struggle to win games or compete. This needs to be fixed. I am all up in my leagues then suddenly jumpers not going in.... I mean , wth?

i just finishing watching the thunder vs cavs game. dion waiters missed two wide open corner trees at the same spot. the cavs went on with a 10-0 run to seal the win eventually.

nothing wrong with missing shots. mix it up with other offensive schemes if the 3
ball is not working. the momentum of the game will bring u back in the game.

To go with the conversation about the auto shot contest and the amount of fouls, I have it too. But I was wondering if having the enforcer badge maybe ups your foul tendency? I play with no auto shot contest but I do also use the left trigger a lot

Did they tweak the effectiveness on picks?

Coming off a pick into a jumper is so much smoother.
