NBA 2K16 News Post

NBA 2K16 patch #4 is available for PlayStation 4, weighing in at 2.4GB. The same patch is scheduled to be released for PC and Xbox One very soon. Once they release, we will update this post.

UPDATE: Patch #4 is available for PC and Xbox One now.

Check out the patch notes below and let us know what you are seeing!

GENERAL
  • Addressed a hang that can occur when editing/applying tattoos in Edit Player.
  • Resolved a bug where one or more users in a co-op game would lose control of their player at some point during the game.
  • Fixed a disconnect issue that some users were seeing during online games.
  • (PC) Fixed a corruption issue where some users were experiencing hangs, missing art assets, and infinite loads. Please ensure that your virus scanning software (e.g. Avast) whitelists your Steam folder/directory. This is required for new content to properly download and install.
  • Closed a loophole where the pause timer would stop counting down when sitting in the ‘Report Image’ flow.
  • Improved the user interface when applying contracts to players in MyTEAM by removing the display of how many contracts the player would have IF the current card was applied.
  • Fixed a case where the user accepting an online invite would sometimes skip the position selection screen in the way into matchmaking.
  • Headwear should now properly unequip when attempting to do so from within the MyPARK Apparel section of the store.
  • The player portrait will now update when a new user is signed in on the main menu via the account picker.
  • A number of other optimizations and enhancements have been made to improve the user experience.
GAMEPLAY
  • Teammate free throw celebration/interaction behaviors have been corrected.
  • Slightly tuned down the frequency of ball collisions.
  • Fixed an issue that led to a temporary loss of user control on possession changes while in the 2K Cam.
  • Tuned down the frequency of missed alley-oop and putback dunks when open.
  • Fixed an issue that allowed high rated post players to shoot post fadeaway 3's at a high percentage.
MyCAREER/MyPARK/MyCOURT
  • Fixed a rare issue where the game would hang when Doris Burke interviews your MyPLAYER at the end of the first half and/or at the end of the game.
  • The correct records and rep levels will now be shown for the players on the MyPARK loading screen.
  • Corrected the wall and floor art for the San Antonio Spurs theme in MyCOURT.
  • Fixed a case where some purchased shoes were not properly appearing on the shoe racks in MyCOURT.
MyGM/MyLEAGUE
  • Resolved a hang that could occur many, many years into MyGM when entering the offseason.
  • Generated players will now wear the correct color socks for away games.
  • Fixed an issue where generated players were getting their free throw animations randomized every offseason.
  • The Strengths/Weaknesses screen in Team Comparison should now be functioning properly once again.
NOTE: All patch fixes will work in your existing game mode saves (unless specifically noted otherwise).

Yep. You're right. After a few more games, I'm not entirely loving the changes, but it isn't nearly as bleak as I thought.

Ok... The defensive rotations are sooooooo bad. If I leave my man to double, theoretically the defense should rotate right? Not when the defense is guarding Kyrie Irving and my man was Mozgov. If I choose to leave my man, the CPU IQ is nonexistent.

Also, can we please address the momentum shifts? Or is that something that's impossible? I've said this recently in another thread but I'm not a fan of these guarantees. If I'm beating someone to sleep, they shouldn't be just coming back with ease.
I'm in the middle of a MyCareer game and stopped to write this. No way Steph and Klay combine to miss 6 layups in a quarter. Not to mention I came out of the game with 6 minutes left in the third and up 25 then I go back to start the fourth and the other team is within 3. That's insane. I don't even play online anymore after a dude hit 6 straight contested threes including a half court buzzer beater, as I missed dunk after layup after turnover to come back and win a game I dominated from the start.

Oh yeah! This isn't as much of a big deal because I've learned how to offset it but the shot-making is a little frustrating. I don't mind missing a contested layup every now and then but to go back down and see a guy with a lower rating than the player I just used make a contested three on the very next play is just insane. You guys said you were gonna cut out demigods but all that it's seems you've done is make the CPU the demigod. And no I'm not turning down my difficulty because as an actual baller, the lower levels don't provide a challenge.

All my requests are about making the game more realistic, which you guys said was the goal. If it's inconceivable, let me know. I can always lower my expectations.

Yea I had the CPU rotate off of CP3 to cover DEANDRE JORDAN standing at the 3 point line. My opponent did the expect what I would of have done. Passed it back to CP3 for the wide open 3 smh.......

And the defender was Tyshaun Prince. I would of understand if it was some lowly defense rated player. But Prince would never do that.

Whatever they did to tone down losing the ball it's hard as hell to block dunks. I'm a big man a guards keep Dunking on me at the pro am

Patch 4 isn't bad for me. I just hate Mike changed the shooting. 3s shouldn't be easier to make than midrange shots. I thought he'd give us updates when he'd change the shooting %s.

Got a chance to play some NBA Today games the other night against the cpu. It seems a little easier to get by the cpu and a little harder to create contact on players. This creates a much more wide open game than prior to patch 4. This lack of contact can also create some wonky looking moments which have been displayed in some videos in this thread. I really wish they would have just triggered more instances of forced dribble pick ups when people dribble into traffic as a substitute for the various loose ball situations prior to patch 4 that people complained about. A forced dribble pick up would reward the defense when in good position yet give the dribbler an opportunity to keep possession(even though they may be in a bad situation). This may have kept both camps happy without making serious changes that may piss off a certain segment. I'm still a little confused about the cpu defensive rotations but overall I think this patch is a decent one..

These are my reactions after 4 games:

Don't lose the ball anymore dribbling, at all. You can go right into the defense and the ball stays; they should've kept a balance but now we're onto the other extreme imo.

Can't hit shots to save my life, it seems like the already inconsistent 3's are even more inconsistent. Deadeye, Limitless Range, and Microwave and I'll shoot below 30% being wide open...nah, that's bogus.

My friend plays at center, has max inside scoring/athleticism/defense/rebounding.
He can easily grab 20 boards a game, but can't hit inside shots at all anymore. Has post move badges but is missing even on mismatches in the post.

Contact layups seem like they're completely gone, unless you're not near anyone I haven't seen anyone making any at all.

The worse parts now:

So many pump fakes getting called into fouls. I'm seeing hands up defense now being sucked into animations; not good at all. My friend got called on a foul perfectly contesting a 3 with no contact at all...it was almost hilariously bad.

Every person in the world can reach on a drive and get a steal. Stealing was toned down? But it's actually worse...makes sense.
I had 5 turnovers in a game, all off reaching on a drive. By a help defender...on the opposite ball hand.....but it's not a foul........riiiight.

The good?:

I have a little more control of my player.....that's it....literally.......

Wow yo, I don't think I've EVER had such a negative experience playing 2K in my life. Even the infamous patch 4 on 15 wasn't that bad too me. People were hitting everything but I just gunned right back..and I was always a good scorer.
I pray that this was just a fluke, and maybe the connection is off or it needs to be tuned a little more or SOMETHING...

But honestly yo, (IMO, key words) this is the worst patch I've ever, ever seen.
They've strayed so very far away from what I remember on day 1. I'll take all the crazy blocks from guards over what happens now any day. To me, this game out of the box was nearly flawless...I'm so disappointed in this game right now it's crazy.
Kind of been my experience in the pro am too. The post game is pretty much pointless in the pro am. Can't finish gimme layups . Maxed inside and can't finish over guards. When the game first came out you could punish smaller players. You still can if you manage to dunk on them. also I boxed the computer out and they called over the back on me? What's the deal with that? The CPU is some kind of auto box out magnet. Also the gameplay is much faster.

On the other hand I have no problem shooting with my guard. I can do post moves without losing the ball (even though I don't hit any drop steps, barely hook shots , up and unders, etc ... Only the post fade works ) I think the pro am was a lot more sim and fun out of the box.

Guys who are getting a lot of fouls, stop using automatic contest shots. It really makes a big difference, its like cheating honestly the way people expect easy shots and you can swat them

I'm seeing the same thing it's just to easy to blow by the cpu and the defensive logic is not up to par sometimes...
I would love to have the original defense before that first patch!!!!

Yep, I use to have some struggles scoring PIP myself, but now its pretty easy for me to score in there, which is disappointing. I really do feel the game played better out of the box for us offline guys than it does now unfortunately. Sadly that seems to be the way the devs are going nowdays, for the last few years its 100% about how online players feel, and they seem to overlook what any of us say about offline, especialy when it comes to My League/My GM.

I do think a few of the issues might be able to be addressed with slider work, but imo we shouldnt have to spend half the year adjusting sliders to get the game as close to real life as possible, especially considering there selling point is its a true simulation of the real game, so to me that means it should play that way out fo the box, and if you want more of a arcade game then adjust the siders to make it arcade.

I really wish at this stage of my life that there was a great basketball text sim, as much as I love actually playing video games, the lack of work that the devs do with My League/MY GM each year makes me really wish there was a basketball text sim that rivaled that of OOTP baseball's text sim. Unfortunately there isnt one or I havent found it. Or a new basketball company would start to make a NBA vidoe game that was all about making a true sim, meaning stats were spot on and Association was there main forcus so it didnt have major issues. I dont see that happening though as I dont think anyone would take that risk with a NBA game with how well NBA2k sales are. From a business standpoint that would be a awful huge risk that in this day and age probably would be worth taking, as IM not sure there are enough of us diehard basketball fans that are all about Association mode, seems there are so many casual's that the online overtakes us, not to say all online players are casual's, but it does seem that the casuals tend to put the online over the top of us hardcore basketball fans of Association mode.

This was honestly the first time I've ever been so mad at 2K I straight up refused to play for a couple days lol

I loved this game out of the box, if I could've changed anything it would be guards getting crazy blocks and so many pump fake fouls...
Other than that I was fine with everything.

Remember you used to be able to overpower bad post defenders and dunk on them quickly? Now it takes the full 5 seconds back to the basket to get a poster on a point guard.
Post shots don't even work anymore. Ever since patch 3, all these bums do is post up and press X near the rim and they score; no shimmy, no head fake, no drop steps...nope just one button and it was a foul or a bucket.
Meanwhile I'm over here making fools look stupid faking them out their shoes, and I miss open layups once they're faked outta the play...

Now I'll get to my shooter:
I understand basketball, so I understand a "perfect" release wide open doesn't fall every time. But when I'm open with a 90 3 point shot and I'm missing over and over I just give up lol
And once you make an outside scorer trying to go inside for easy looks to get a rhythm isn't gonna happen now...can't hit contested layups at all. Like you said, not even max inside big men are hitting em.

Offline, or even playing against friends is okay. I never really saw the patches effect the game as much as it does online modes like Park and Pro Am.
I still have close games, fun games in My Career and stuff like that....

It's just, whether or not it was listening to them bums again, bad basketball keeps getting rewarded and it annoys me. Day 1 I remember playing smart always won you the game..now I'm playing 2K basketball in Pro Am not actual basketball.

As a big man this sounds terrible. Ugh...

I will still play the park with my brothers since I find that fun. As for h2h games...naw I'm staying away from that like the plague. It would just piss me off...come to think of it if I played mostly online games I would've been banned a long time ago from OS due to me complaining lol

# 294 Peninc @ 12/19/15 07:41 AM
I havent played the game in maybe 6-8 weeks simply because it was infuriating as someone who never plays online. Having downloaded this latest patch I must say the game is at the best state it has ever been. I actually had fun with it again today. For all those guys who are so "sim" that they want the ball to go loose everytime it hits off a toe...I'm glad the devs didnt listen to you.

Downloading now. I hope it's good..

# 296 mauro78 @ 12/19/15 09:06 AM
It's me or latest patches the game feels less physical?
Less contact, less blocks....I'm not saing is bad...I just feel it less physical...

I mean last two patches....

# 297 itsVURN @ 12/19/15 09:07 AM
The game plays great so far.

I've seen it discussed a bit here. Corner threes are more efficient than midrange jumpers. Only a hand full of elite players consistently hit midis

Yep running into a defender fully contested and just pressing square works better than doing post moves faking a defender out etc... In the pro am. Killed my big man experience . I'm still winning games but it feels arcadey now . And it's becoming a chore. Never considered quitting 2k in the middle of the basketball season . The rest of the game I'm still enjoying.

As a shooter which jumper are you using ? My shots have been money . A lot of people say the midrange game is broke but what are y'all close shot rating those matter too.

# 299 The 24th Letter @ 12/19/15 09:36 AM
Don't know, game is playing well for me in the modes I frequent: PNO/offline/Pro Am, I just wished they wouldn't have touched shooting other than contested layups...I rarely complain about shooting but eventually we need to settle on some settings.

As far as blowing by guys, I'm assuming you guys aren't playing SS/SIM? because it feels like they boosted everyone's OBD on that setting....it actually feels more like it did out of box....minus the warping- which is honestly pretty annoying now that we've come this far....lol

Even with the complaints- having a lot of fun playing

# 300 Rockie_Fresh88 @ 12/19/15 09:48 AM
I don't see how you guys complain about shooting I never miss lol unless I'm doing a post move or standing layup
