NBA 2K15 is rolling with a brand new look this year to MyCAREER with an all-new backstory where you will (spoiler alert) become an undrafted free agent. This year's mode begins in January instead of before the NBA season, where you will be signing on with short-term deals trying to make a team in the NBA. Another tidbit we've already known is you'll be able to scan your face into the game if you so choose, so your player will look a lot more like yourself if you want to go that route.

The big thing is that you'll be testing free agency right off of the bat, and testing different offers against one another. This is a unique take to the Career mode story, and it seems like a hopeful prospect that you'll be doing a lot of new things in this year's mode you haven't yet done.

Here's to hoping you can skip the cut scenes!

What did you think about the opening scene and the face scan technology?

i think they should give you options in the beginning of the path you want to take

1. Lottery Pick (1-14) (player starts out with a 70-75)
2. Mid-Late Pick (15-30) (player starts out as 60-65)
3. 2nd Round/Undrafted (player starts out 50-55)

and based how you play in the combine/showcase you either boost your stock or drop it

i think this makes the game more realistic and it gives people the option to choose what they want to be starting out....a stud in the making, something inbetween or a player that has to work his way up
I agree. I don't mind story elements and cutscenes, but let them be dictated by how you play the game, not the other way around.

Again a fixed storyline? Why is it so hard for 2K to just give us options and decide on our own careers?
  • hyped player, high 1st round
  • role player, late 1st round
  • 2nd round pick, sketchy situation, prove yourself
  • last pick, are you the new Isaiah Thomas?
  • undrafted

Because the players are online and you play in the Park with them.

Obviously with different options like that you have different ratings and that's not fair to someone who's undrafted...unless you're okay with only playing offline.

This is all I really care about because this is what made it unplayable at times for me. The AI sucked horribly and with no sliders this mode really suffered on the court for me. Other than this I'll rock with just about anything off the court, just keep it fresh and going 2K!

They could always separate online ratings from offline ones. So you can be a 99 in your career, but the first time you play online, you're still a 65 (or whatever you would start at). Then, you can only increase your online ratings by playing online.

# 227 deetoman @ 09/23/14 08:01 AM
No one wants to work to get a high rating offline just to go online and start over.............

I think you should be able to do the rookie showcase or draft combine and wherever you get drafted it should trigger a story line. 1st pick, lottery pick, late first round, second round, undrafted.

Cut scenes are fine, but how about just taking out the story? Have cutscenes for the draft, big games, rivalries, playoffs, championship, press conferences, autograph signing sessions, pictures with fans, retirement press conference, stuff like that. But just cut down on some of the dialog.

We shouldn't ALL get the same cut scenes at the same time, it should be dynamic to OUR career (our personality, success, etc.). Maybe have us in meeting rooms with Nike, Adidas, UA, and Reebok. Let us talk to our agent when we are looking for a new contract or new endorsement. It'd be easy to remove the corniness and still make it rated E.

See that's what I don't get. The online part of this game has always been bugged. Be it crew, online 1 vs 1 or even the park. So why is the focus of MyCareer on the online aspect? That's wrong.

I don't want to sound too critical or start whining but I just want a fun and interesting (detailed) mycareer mode without these movie-ish gimmicks. I don't want a fixed storyline, fixed games, fixed everything. Mycareer has become some sort of roleplaying game for a really young audience.

Well for one, it's the first day if released information on MyCAREER, let's see what else they've got.

We don't know if everyone's journey or cutscene's will be the same, hopefully they've added some areas where you can branch out. Based off the feedback last year, they could've very well removed instances of "fixed" moments to conquer. Only time will tell on that. "Corny, B-Movie" etc is all subjective...the 'Insider' saying a few lines post game, and not experiencing anything different other than reading e-mails and seeing screenshots of billboards etc. got corny to me fast.

This is were maybe they could have an alternative for people who enjoyed the traditional MyPlayer experience.

Yeah, its too deep, I don't have time to play off them modes they have in the game, lol.
Maybe 2K should stop trying so hard to please people, they are going to complain no matter what, might as well give the bare minimum, EA learned this a long time ago.

It's not 2K adding stuff that people are complaining about here.

It's 2K removing perhaps one if the most vital and authentic parts of an NBA career to force fit an extremely unrealistic storyline, if you play on to be one of the all time greats. It was one of their better done aspects, though they did chip heavily away at it by removing Summer League and the Draft Combine.

The first year we can actually have our real selves in the game is the first year we can't see ourselves drafted in the NBA. There is a HUGE, HUGE wasted opportunity here.

Um what was fake about the story mode from 2k14?

MP Mode has been the most played mode since 2K10, I believe. I don't know where this stuff comes from that this just happened in 2K14 NG. They don't force us to play the game mode, but the thing is, people want to play MP Mode. They just don't want the storyline aspect of it. They want it to be setup how it used to be.

Then guys saying go back to last gen is just....smh. Why would someone want to go back and play a game on inferior graphics, modes, gameplay and etc? And also to the people saying, "Player lock in association". While that's an option for some that doesn't care about shoe deals, magazines, being able to play on The Park/Crew and having the CPU make trades and etc and just want to play regular games and control the team, then it will be perfect. But a lot of people do not want that, they want career modes of old, just don't want a linear story.

I personally am willing to give a storyline a try since I skipped on 2K14 and interacting w/ teammates and see if it actually changes the story, but I don't agree w/ having to go undrafted and things like that. I want a more dynamic story as well and not a story everyone will have. I want to talk to a friend and we have completely different cutscenes a lot of times and outcomes.
As stated before if you don't want the story mode don't play the mode or go back to last gen it doesn't get any easier than that. You and whoever else don't like the story mode or says it corny or wack are in a very small minority and are obv outnumbered by the majority, and for the different cutscenes yea that would be nice and all but I mean not every story mode game has different outcomes, but by some of you guys logic basically saying any story mode game that has the same outcome for everyone is bad. which is just simply not true.

Can't wait to see how the scanning works for me

# 237 twogotwingz3 @ 09/23/14 12:22 PM
I think another little thing 2k should let us add in is a snapshot of our face scan so that we have a picture for our player card instead of a blank outline or logo

# 238 VDusen04 @ 09/23/14 12:29 PM
The corny and awful storyline is a killer for me. If that first scene is any indication, it seems it'll be tough to overlook and play through. My initial draw to MyPlayer in 2K10 was the idea of replicating a realistic path to the NBA. Clearly, creating myself was totally fictional (I'm never going to the league). But all of the surrounding aspects of the mode were real, authentic and simulation-based enough to allow me to immerse myself in a world of a young VDusen trying to legitimately reach the National Basketball Association.

In contrast, every single forced & corny cut scene featuring me raging at a terribly voice-acted agent immediately destroys any sense of immersion. I used to love MyPlayer because it felt real. Now, the linear storyline combined with the removal of many of the real aspects of reaching the league (Draft Combine, Summer League, D-League, Training Camp), has eliminated most of my zest for this mode.

Right on.

This was the reason I passed on 2K14 and the reason I'll pass this year. This mode should be some much more dynamic as it pertains to paths. This forced narrative kills any replay value. It's the reason I don't buy games anymore I rent because once you beat them they are essential useless to me.

There's no reason why there shouldn't be a true path to the NBA. The college license can't be that much. You should start in March Madness, then go through a combine, individual team workouts in groups and/or alone(which includes a dynamic interview process), then the draft(which should also be dynamic IMO). After you're drafted you should go play in summer league, training camp, and pre season(training camp and pre season should be every year). If they want to give some people the option to skip it and give them the right to select high draft pick, mid draft pick, low draft pick, undrafted that should be an easy short cut to add. However for me the thing that got me hooked on this mode was the emergence of what it was to be pro prospect leaving college. 2K was already making it worse and worse every year IMO now that element appears to be dead and my interest in this game dying with it.

Oh, but the face scanning looks great too bad I won't be using it this year.

How did you come to this conclusion?
