NBA 2K15 News Post

Video by Chris Smoove
on YouTube.

NBA 2K15 is rolling with a brand new look this year to MyCAREER with an all-new backstory where you will (spoiler alert) become an undrafted free agent. This year's mode begins in January instead of before the NBA season, where you will be signing on with short-term deals trying to make a team in the NBA. Another tidbit we've already known is you'll be able to scan your face into the game if you so choose, so your player will look a lot more like yourself if you want to go that route.

The big thing is that you'll be testing free agency right off of the bat, and testing different offers against one another. This is a unique take to the Career mode story, and it seems like a hopeful prospect that you'll be doing a lot of new things in this year's mode you haven't yet done.

Here's to hoping you can skip the cut scenes!

What did you think about the opening scene and the face scan technology?

the problem i have with this line is that it makes it sound like nobody knew what they wanted for this mode. When in fact everyone stated year in and year out what needed fixing. instead of doing that stuff, 2k went in a totally opposite direction, and did something no one asked for. so yeah there is pleasing people, but what reaction do you really expect when you ask for one thing and get something completely different. Its like going to a resturaunt, asking for a sandwich, and getting spaghetti instead, then the resturaunt goes, well be happy we made you something at all.

Everything in the game has to be okayed by the NBA, they can't have a non "corny" story with drugs and curses because Adam Silver's not gonna allow that. Same reason players aren't getting booed and no techs for fights and all that.

Personally I think this route is more believable, we're creating guys that have no college background compared to people like Wiggins and Parker so why should we be drafted?

I'm only disappointed in the hair, it's really not that hard to get just one simple fade or lineup.
Who said anything about having drugs and cursing making a story non corny? lmao. I don't play sports games for story modes, i play a lot of plot heavy games(metal gear or last of us for example) for story. Sports games are the last type of game i play for story, and frankly the story was very corny and cliche, with or without cussing(cussing and drugs wouldn't change anything). The writing was just, not that great IMO.

Franklly i don't need a story mode for my career, hell if i want to i can make one up in my head and play out, instead of being forced to follow a storyline i don't care about. but i think making it so you have to follow some kind of storyline isn't the way to go, makes it seem unrealistic. Or at least why not have an option to do my career story mode, or just regular my career? Seems like a good compromise.

I'm just saying that a story mode in an official sports game can't be anything other than cheesy. The NBA isn't going to allow fighting or going out to clubs, ****** cheerleaders nothing at all like that.

People are making it seem like 2K14 was developed by Disney, it wasn't that bad. Obviously it could be better but they have limits applied by the NBA themselves.

And remember, we on the forum are a minority. The ****** fans and even a lot of the youtube guys love the story in 14, and 2K hears more feedback on Twitter and Facebook from ******s that love it so they decided to keep the story in.

That's the thing though, there disney movies with better story. I'm not saying it has to be violent or crazy to be good. But yeah, the story also suffered from trying to hard at times to make things over dramatic, i dunno it was just too over the top and corny at times. And even you said a sports game story has no choice but to be cheesy. Which is why the last thing a sports game needs is story. Hell, fight night champion did the same thing back in the day, and a lot of people were irritated by it because they felt they wasted resources doing something nobody asked for.

I just feel like it's a waste of time and resources to waste, writing a cheesy story mode nobody asked for, it's weird. And yeah ******s will eat anything up, but honestly that's more reason that a story mode wouldn't matter, with or without it ******s will play, all they gotta do is show an epic trailer and they're sold you know?

Lol the problem i have is the story was THAT bad. Almost like it was created by disney. I think the story would be less controversial if it a. Could be skipped and b. When the scenes are skipped they dont negatively effect your gameplay. That stuff along with no more scripted "missed free throws" and catching "the flu". If they implement this stuff for the guys who dont like cutscenes, then you wont hear another word out of me. And thats a promise. Because i do understand that some like cutscenes, but can we get something for the guys who dont?

Have you watched Disney sports movies before? For every Invincible you get a dozen cheesefests.

As for no-one asking for a story mode, no-one on OS maybe, the land of Crew and 'online gaming is king' but I myself wanted a story mode big-time and I bet so does the millions who don't frequent OS. The arrogance of some OS posters astounds me, just because you do not want something does not mean the rest of us agree with you.

Not to mention MyCareer was the most played mode on next-gen, so clearly their cheesy story was popular. It seems Mr. Springs, you're in the very small minority when it comes to MyCareer.

that face scan looks nothing like smoove. 2k needs more hairstyles. that line up is bad

# 129 SPRINGS03 @ 09/22/14 09:34 PM
Yeah, OkayC that's another problem the story had. It forces you to do things for the story for "drama" or whatever, rather than having the story adjust for things you do. Nobody likes a scripted, less controlled experience. Especially sim heads.

Like I said though, I'm not disagreeing, I'm only saying we're in the small minority that couldn't care less if there wasn't a story. All the Youtubers and people on social media talking about the story being cool, give a reason for 2K to add on and make new situations in the game.

It could be a good thing, because it means they'll pay more attention to the mode itself...fixing gameplay and glitches. So it's not all bad.

mc was the most played mode since its existence, not just on next gen. spring has a point, ******s are ******s, they'll be playing the game whether the cutscenes were here or not. Heck update graphics and give a cool trailer, and ******s wouldve drooled all over this game like they do every year. So i fail to see why 2k needed to go out of their way to appease a crowd they already own. And as someone who had followed other forums, youtube posts, etc i can't recall very many people if ever actually verbally stating they want cutscenes in this mode. And guess what even if they did say it, ******s would still be playin it. so no offense but your point is somewhat moot.

MyCareer is a distinctly non-simhead experience. It's a wish fulfillment mode, a proper simhead would never touch it, because it's not completely realistic.

Also, and I'm not sure if you know this, but 2ksports makes much more money from ******s than they do sim heads. For every poster who moans about a logo/jersey/court being wrong there's 100,000 ******s who couldn't give two craps as long as the game is fun.

so by this logic 2k shouldnt cater to sims anymore since there the minority.

I really rather not have the story for some of the reasons others dont want it. Its already bad enough teammates can barley play, now i have to be told what to do.

The ****** crowd will always outmatch us believe or not they've been wanting this mode like this for a while

People might not have been asking for it but there was crazy hype when they found out My Career was gonna have a story. Now all them ******s expect a story and to take it out would definitely make some of them question buying the game.

Even on Youtube, people who don't watch basketball played 2K because of the story in career mode. I bet there's thousands who haven't watched a game of NBA basketball before but will buy 2K15 because it's "cool" to have an rpg-style story mode where you make your own character.

It's not about what we want at this point, there's gonna be a story in my career. All that we should care about is scripted games and unrealistic goals like scoring 10 straight points for your team straight off the bench.

Ah I see, so because a ****** plays a mode then 2k shouldn't try and improve the mode? By your logic, they shouldn't do anything more than polish the graphics, update rosters and stick a new player on the roster, because those ******s will buy it regardless. After all, if a trailer is all it takes then why should 2k bother doing more than that?

Who cares if something wasn't asked for? I mean really, you're pissed because a mode added something you think wasn't asked for and people enjoyed it except you and a few others? Even on OS the story haters are the minority, have you been in the 2k14 MyCareer thread? For all it's cheesiness people ate it up and even today 10 months on, it's still getting good playtime.

If you have a x360 or PS3, buy the last gen version instead if the story annoys you so much, because that version is your old-fashioned MyCareer without any bells and whistles.

Lol sad but true trying to play this mode the right way gets you no where

No I'm saying overall the stories in disney are STILL better than what we got in my player. Hell, like mike has a better story and is more entertaining, and it's corny.

I check all kinds of forms bro(hell even youtube, where most people are ******), i never saw all these people clamoring for a story mode. And what arrogance are you even talking about? Where did i say, "because i don't want this mode, nobody does?" I just said it wasn't a high demand, because it wasn't. Has nothing to do with me liking it or not, hell i don't care about crew, but i recognize there is a high demand for it lol. And how are you gonna say it's arrogant for anyone to say because they don't like something a lot of others might now, when you say " but I myself wanted a story mode big-time and I bet so does the millions who don't frequent OS" that's a similar logic, just because you wanted something doesn't mean millions of others do too lol.

And my player mode has been one of the most popular, if not the most popular mode since it was introduced, so that really doesn't mean anything.

# 140 etched Chaos @ 09/22/14 09:47 PM
Also, I want to address this whole scripted games thing, it's not scripted, you get given goals, the only downside to not fulfilling those goals is that you don't get the vc, that's it (buzzer beater shot excluded). Who cares if the goal is scoring 10 points on the trot or whatever, you're not obligated to play that way. I like to complete the goals if i can but I never got particularly annoyed if i didn't, it didn't make my experience worse, it was just an incomplete goal.
