NBA 2K15 News Post

on YouTube.

NBA 2K15 is rolling with a brand new look this year to MyCAREER with an all-new backstory where you will (spoiler alert) become an undrafted free agent. This year's mode begins in January instead of before the NBA season, where you will be signing on with short-term deals trying to make a team in the NBA. Another tidbit we've already known is you'll be able to scan your face into the game if you so choose, so your player will look a lot more like yourself if you want to go that route.

The big thing is that you'll be testing free agency right off of the bat, and testing different offers against one another. This is a unique take to the Career mode story, and it seems like a hopeful prospect that you'll be doing a lot of new things in this year's mode you haven't yet done.

Here's to hoping you can skip the cut scenes!

What did you think about the opening scene and the face scan technology?

One of my big problems with the mode last year was we had to wait until a certain time to meet with the GM or practice our jumpshot, free throw, handles, etc. In reality a player can do those things whenever they want, not to mention the fact we could do those things in past games whenever. Since they insist on story they need to still let us have at least a little freedom.

Biggest missing feature by far was no practice mode. Had to actually play a full game to test out jumpers or dribble moves and if they weren't good you were screwed.

I guess My Career will definitely be getting some playing time from me this time around.

No one here's saying they're not playing the mode because of anything, we're saying what makes the mode frustrating at times.
That's the thing people are saying... Constructive criticism is, I hope the AI doesn't over help and leave wide open 3s, I hope my wide open 3pt shooter doesn't pass on a shot... I don't like being subbed out when I get the lead only to be down by 10 when I re enter the game... But instead I see 3 or 4 post like that and 20 being "This Sucks" casuals and cut scenes are ruining the mode.. If I was a Dev I would come less cause I'm not fishing for the good comments with good criticism don't get paid for that... Will just let me research folks do that.

Mycareer now is for kids, so guys let them kids play their career lol. There nothing sim about mycareer, don't get twisted, I never played it since they add those cut scenes and never gonna play it, super corny!
Simulation is trying to play the game as close to real life as possible.

So you create yourself and play as only yourself and how you do in real life...technically it's the most sim thing to do in 2K if you think about it. And saying a whole mode is for kids is pretty ignorant.

There wasn't a real story prior to 2k14 on Next-gen basically.

Outside of the magazine covers and endorsements, you just made up your own story.

What they SHOULD do is have a story mode AND go back to what they had prior to 2k14. Then 98% of people who play MyCareer are happy.

Those other 2% won't be happy no matter what.

They do not have the time or resources to make a full-fledged story mode with multiple paths and adapts itself to your playing style. With MyGM, MyLeague, MyTeam, online, graphics and most importantly the ai to address too.
This is pure irony. Both MyGM and MyLeague are "story-modes" as much as MyCareer - at least up to 2K11 where MyCareer started more and more to be a "roller-coaster" experience than a "sand-box" as it originally began in 2k10.

As Leftos stated ai mechanics and systems for the majority of the game should carry through all modes - gamewide. Improving team development translated from Leftos' improvements in all three modes I'll be playing this year.

Story-boarding MyCareer into an on-rails experience is one direction that may attract some but it turns off a lot as well. Think of it as being Skyrim vs Dragon Age Origins, and the industry-trend is to expand on the sand-box experience not the on-rails experience. Bungie followed your philosophy and they are receiving a lot of criticism for small worlds and what seems like a very scripted experience. 2K should be very aware of this themselves.

So they still got supercuts Hair styles

I'm wondering if we'll be able to have multiple mycareers going at once. In the past I always liked to created one big man and one wing player and play them both. Also if you are forced to sit through all the cutscenes and they are exactly the same no matter what or if there is only one path to follow then that would really make it a pain playing multiples.

I personally think the voice sounds worse than the normal MyPlayer voice lol. And that face scan of Smoove looks pretty bad.

Still excited to see what they have in store for MyCareer.

Plus you can't call plays can't pick your own jerseys and all..
Its ALWAYS been for kids ...its been for Teens/Adults too...see the rating on previous game boxes..it says "E" that stands for everybody lol...If you dont like the mode thats cool just keep it moving, but to constantly rant and rave its for 12 yr olds now??? C'mon now!!!

I hope the teammate A.I. is greatly improved!!

# 213 JJFurr29 @ 09/23/14 12:05 AM
At least I can play for the Hornets. I don't really mind it but I hope they let you key game in year 1 and choose your number and keep or change it later and also be able to use other jerseys or at least have the game change them every now and then.
I don't mind cut scenes as long as they don't become repetitive.
And I hope they make it harder to put up big numbers especially early on. As a rookie or 2nd year player I shouldn't be averaging 35/10/10..
Hair styles is kind of eh for me. I have short hair basically a buzz but the game has never had it.
I don't necessarily wanna have injuries but it happens I'd hope they'd put that in

Kind of disappointed you start out this way and only 1 set way I think there should be multiple paths

- Number1 draft pick can you handle the pressure and live up to the hype
- Top 5 - top 10 draft picks
- Mid first round
- late first round to early 2nd round
- Late second round
- Undrafted
- Preseason/Summer League
- Overseas Leagues

the opening scene does look visually better though in terms of production and I'm glad there is a small variety in player voices. I really hope there is more depth though after season 1 in 2K14 not a lot happens and I agree with Andrew over at the NLSC the shortened first season does limit your VC collecting to improve skills and ratings. I will give it a try but if it feels stale or cheapened I will most likely just play MyLeague mode.

# 215 SportsFanatic10 @ 09/23/14 12:14 AM
the single best thing they could do with this mode imo is allow the user of sliders.

# 216 Dr. Banner @ 09/23/14 12:44 AM
I still find it unbelievable this is the mode most people play....I'll never understand that .

# 217 Dr. Banner @ 09/23/14 12:45 AM
And the facial scan came out decent.

# 218 swiftkid @ 09/23/14 12:48 AM
knew 2k14 was mostly for show when the next-gen came out, been telling folks 2k15 is where the epicness begins

# 219 Kirsome @ 09/23/14 12:57 AM
MyCareer has been the only mode i played. I bought 2K14 on PC last year so it was still the old mode I've always known. The new direction they're taking is a serious disappointment for me.

There is a difference between improving and altering. Having a scripted story which affects gameplay (ie match outcomes) or your player's career (ie unable to be drafted), to me, is altering.

It would've been better if they made the story and my career as two seperate modes.

# 220 Po0hd1n1 @ 09/23/14 01:13 AM
not liking this overly scripted stuff...its not really "MY" career when you think about it

i dont mind them adding some extra off the court stuff to spruce the mode up but dont make it heavily scripted where it makes you feel like you're playing the career 2k wants you to play

they should have left the draft stuff like it was or give you the simple option to choose to go through the showcase/be drafted or become a undrafted FA
