NBA 2K15 News Post

We recently had a chance to interview Rob Jones, Sr. Producer Visual Concepts and Erick Boenisch, Sr. Producer, Visual Concepts to talk about a new mode for NBA 2K15 called MyLEAGUE, exclusive for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC.

Before we get into the interview, here is a quick rundown on some of the options. In a nutshell, it’s the Association Mode that we all know and loved on old-gen consoles, on steroids.

MyLEAGUE offers both a single season or up to an 80 year franchise experience. You will have complete control over every aspect of how your league plays out.

In addition, we also added a new option in the setup menu of MyLEAGUE that allows you to decide whether or not you want to start the mode with the injuries assigned in the roster. Default behavior is to wipe all injuries such that everyone starts healthy.

There is one thing we have been discussing internally and have been split on; would love some opinions from the community. As I mentioned in the original interview, one feature in the Injuries 2.0 system is that players will wear appropriate accessories when recovering from an injury (e.g. sprained knee). If you manually assign an injury to a player, would you expect that player to then be automatically equipped with an appropriate accessory, or would that be a little too heavy-handed and taking control away from you?

Feedback welcomed. Hope everyone enjoys the addition!
Yes!!!!

How about trades? Do we still have to deal with 4 slots and have to pick any combination of players and picks to make a trade or will players and draft picks finally have their own slots?

Basically can we make a trade of 4 players plus 3 picks to another team or do we just have 4 slots like we've had for the past billion years?
Would we be able to get some clarification on this (and putting protections on draft picks)? And if you guys haven't had time to address this, is there any chance it may be able to be implemented before release or in a patch?

This is the year of the fans as I like to say. This year is going to be special.
Not knocking the devs at all just really refreshing to see them interacting like used to do and it's nice what they have been creating thus far. I cannot wait to see what the Create A Player will be like!

Also, if the new equipment is on a part of the body where the player normally wears a certain accessory, just make it so that when the injury is done, that the player puts back his normal accessory.

For ex. melo injures his elbow, switches to an elbow pad, injury is gone, he switches back to his normal accessory
Love this attention to detail both in representation and in user interface/flow concern.

I like the idea of having injury accessories show up automatically for that initial WOW factor in roster creator.

Would it make sense to have each injury have a default and editable accessory tied to them in the interface, and to be able to change that injury accessory as an extra layer? It would replace the original accessory in that location only for the duration of the injury and also be customizable. Then when the injury expires, the accessory is also automatically removed. Not sure if it's too late in the game to make interface changes.

Lingering injuries would have the accessory tied to them, and of corse you can change injuries to use no accessory either.

So for example, Curry has lingering low level ankle durability issues -- he's been healthy for two years but he still wears heavy braces on both ankles. It makes sense to me that the accessory is tied logically to the injury concern. Of course, if body part durability and injuries are different things, this example doesn't really work.

There, my GSW man crush. Are you happy Czar? Lol.

Great news all around. Sounds like they have all the basics back in.

Now that teams have their future pick situations accurately represented, can we also trade with pick protections, and are TPEs in the game with teams having their respective TPEs? BAEs? Mini-MLEs? Injured player exceptions? Sign and trades? Cap Holds (this one is big for properly implemented Bird rights)?

How awesome would it be for 2K to be my source for team situations under a fully implemented CBA.

Just saying...since we're on the customization topic and listening to the fans. Being able to choose our jerseys in MyCareer along with editing other players in that mode would be fantastic. Just for those of us cursed with observational quirks that make things like incorrect accessories, color inaccuracies and the like stand out, last year was very annoying not being able to personally fix those over sights and not having the accessories change automatically for your own player. I'll leave that there lol

EDIT: Would also be nice to finally see team colors expanded so that we can finally get those correct.

A simple meter system, or "light" system would fix this and hell casual NAND hardcore players complete deals faster.

-red light- no way
-orange light-almost but not quite
Green light-will accept

This system would make trading a breeze and remove the guessing game from the equation.
This is a great idea. Or a trade proposal scale of angry to happy face reflecting how an opposing GM will likely respond. You can gamble to see if a GM will accept a potentially one sided trade and you can try to spam mediocre ones.

However, offer several refused trade proposals in succession or an egregiously bad one (think ESPN trade machine abuses), and your reputation takes a hit around the league that recovers over time that makes it harder to make moves.

Fun thematic meter ideas:

Red icon of an angry face with a hung up phone.

Yellow icon of a phone next to an inexpressive face with a chat bubble. "No deal yet but we're talking."

Green icon of a phone with a happy face.

Rest of your ideas are fantastic too.

They're programmers, not lawyers. Don't get your hopes up about it being accurate, ESPN doesn't even seem to understand the CBA half of the time

Seeing that this is finally the year of the dreams come true maybe we can finally get a menu where we can change team/shoe and sock colors ourselves

Not to mention accurate accessory colors. Would be great to finally get the Lakers and other teams' under shirts changing only to white or black because you could set it to Team Color 4 or 5 or something. Or how about finally being able to change headband colors ourselves lol

Obviously we have to see how it actually plays, but on paper MyLeague is a great response to practically every criticism and complaint about 2k14. Bravo to the NBA 2K for responding to the consumers who were dissatisfied with so many aspects of 2K14 (save graphics). Not only did they bring back the parts of Association we liked on previous Gen systems, but they added to it with more controls on trades, injuries, free agents signings, etc. I look forward to the ability to edit anything on a player as well, whether it be name, birthdate, weight, college, etc.

Can't wait for this one now after actually choosing NOT to purchase a PS4 due to NBA2k14 being such a disappointment to so many (and without even playing the game, knowing that the modes and lack of 30 team control wouldn't suit the type of player I am). Now I'm off to get a PS4 and to get NBA 2K15

A court creator would be a great idea for customization. Where we can be able to edit NBA courts (present/past).

My wish now is that the create-a-player truly is "robust". Along with being able to augment various parts of the face, it would be great if we finally had the ability to truly select varying body types. Such as a leaner frame like Durant, something a bit thicker like say Paul Pierce or even Blake Griffin, and something more muscular like Lebron (pre-Paleo diet). This coupled with the existing option of ripped or smoother skin definition would allow for quite a bit of variety.

And please create a tattoo system that reflects options more akin to what we see today in the NBA. If it's too complicated to have tattoos layer over one another, than create larger scale tattoos that in of themselves are layered such as full sleeve tattoos. Even upper chest tattoos would be appreciated, as these would show around the neckline.

And can we PLEASE finally be allowed to select our team uniforms in MyCareer? As 2k has said themselves, MyCareer is the most popular game mode and for some, the only mode they even touch. Again, if this is truly the year of the fans, this is something that has been asked for ever since the mode's inception.

P.S. And my ultimate wish...incorporate FIBA into MyCareer and MyLeague. Would be great through the course of careers to be able to represent TEAM USA once your players has earned that right. And that would go along way towards players continuing to play out multiple seasons. Seeing how it stands currently, by the end of the first season, many have already captured ROY, MVP, All-star selection, Championship, and Finals MVP. After that, it doesn't leave much left to shoot for.

I would really like this as well.
