R.B.I. Baseball 14 News Post

At the end of the day, R.B.I. Baseball 14 is pretty much exactly what we thought it would be. A report filed by Polygon says the game will be the fast-paced baseball game from your childhood with two button controls.

Quote:
"It's going to be very true to the roots of the brand, of R.B.I. Baseball," said Jamie Leece, vice president of games for MLB Advanced Media, in a phone interview with Polygon earlier this week. "It will be fast-paced; games can be played in under 20 minutes. From a user control standpoint, fans will find the controls to be 'classic,' reminiscent of the two-button controls from games of that generation."

MLB also commented that players will behave as they do in real life, with real-life data being the basis for attributes and player behavior within the game. The game will feature a season mode, an exhibition mode, and a playoff mode. No cost information was revealed, but it was revealed the game will be a digital release on PS3/4, Xbox 360/One, and mobile platforms.

R.B.I. Baseball 14 will release on the PS3/Xbox 360 initially (reported to be April 10), with the next-gen consoles release following that. You can see more screens of the game here.

What do you think? Is R.B.I. Baseball 14 what you expected? Are you going to buy?

It's still subjective. Not everyone considers that game perfect.

And can we just talk about RBI Baseball in the RBI Baseball forum?

I agree. There are times it seems like no matter what pitcher you have, or what pitch you throw, certain guys are going to hit off of you no matter what.
I played the same game (MLB13) against the Yanks, 4x in a row, and in each one, Ellsbury got a hit in his first AB regardless of who I had on the mound.

But my biggest gripe against The Show is that the pitcher-hitter dynamic has gotten extremely stale.
After using 2K's analog pitching and having Hitters Eye, I found MLB to be really boring.
I'm well aware of 2K's shortcomings, but for my money, no other ball game has captured the fun and intensity of the pitcher-hitter dynamic like it did.
The game was just flat-out fun.

That's why I'm hoping RBI has something similar. It doesn't have to be perfect, or as pretty as the other games out there.
I just hope it's more sim than arcade and that it's fun.
But if not, I'll go back to 2K13.
Really?
NOW guys gotta leave out talk of other games

I wonder how much editing we can do?
Reading about some classic teams has me thinking that editing some historical teams would be nice.

I doubt any real editing. It's RBI Baseball.

Yep - he clearly states in the article that this is a purchase and download game. There will be none of the .99 transactions for this game at all. The only extra cost he said might be down the road if they decide upon offering DLC such as past legends and/or teams.

Brother you are going to have to explain it to me like I'm stupid - which could be the case. I'm not following you, are you saying you feel like them charging for legends and past teams is considered micro transaction hell?

no, lol Im confused in one sentence they say no microtransactions then saying there are plans for downloadable content down the road?? Well how are they going to do that other than charge users for those legends/ballparks?

LOL - it's nice to type out lol and actually do it. My guess is he meant no $.99 micro transactions like added power or speed for your player. Basically no pay to win type of situation. He could have worded it better, but I got what he was saying.

Hmm. Still on the fence about this. Really need to see some gameplay videos before deciding. Decent if not spectacular anims and ball physics? I'd probably give RBI a shot.

For "serious" baseball I've played Pro Yakyuu Spirits rather than The Show for the past couple of years which means I don't have any contact with the MLB in the videogame field. Quite a keen Mariners fan, yeah... I know, so this title might be enough to fill that void.

I like they've at least included alternate uniforms and I'm not overly concerned about the graphical shortcomings if the gameplay's fun and not too contrived by stats. I wouldn't want it to be the case that the Astros have zero chance of winning the World Series on a normal difficulty level.

The player's skill at the game should be enough to give any team a shot at winning it all, provided they become adept at it.

im hopin its gonna be fun.... just worried about the low player count 4 each team. Im a huge red sox fan so im assuming theres gonna be someone missing I would like 2 have used in game but perhaps the unlocks or downloads in future can be players u can add 2 yur roster like would love havin me some wade boggs back at 3rd or jim rice in LF shucks just give the 86 sox and give me a chance LoL will seeeeee!!!!!

Fun, fast and exciting is what i'm looking for and sounds like i'll get it with this game. Baseball video games for the most part put me to sleep, i'm looking for something closer to playing EA's NHL.

Xbox or PS3 that's my only dilemma!

# 138 statnut @ 03/14/14 05:05 PM
I think the biggest disappointment for me is the lack of 3DS support. That would be huge, considering the dearth of baseball games there.

# 139 exempr @ 03/15/14 01:46 AM
ok guys i think the MLB bubblehead game is much better looks much better and too much playable and fun than this one its ok to try to bring old school roots but i think that moment pass by with the last generation is time to move on if you want to bring somethin fresh just make a new little league game,NCAA baseball or NCAA women softball game thats my opinion.

# 140 roadman @ 03/15/14 09:24 AM
^^

Sounds like you didn't play RBI baseball last generation? Also, NCAA baseball was also developed last generation.
