R.B.I. Baseball 14 News Post

At the end of the day, R.B.I. Baseball 14 is pretty much exactly what we thought it would be. A report filed by Polygon says the game will be the fast-paced baseball game from your childhood with two button controls.

Quote:
"It's going to be very true to the roots of the brand, of R.B.I. Baseball," said Jamie Leece, vice president of games for MLB Advanced Media, in a phone interview with Polygon earlier this week. "It will be fast-paced; games can be played in under 20 minutes. From a user control standpoint, fans will find the controls to be 'classic,' reminiscent of the two-button controls from games of that generation."

MLB also commented that players will behave as they do in real life, with real-life data being the basis for attributes and player behavior within the game. The game will feature a season mode, an exhibition mode, and a playoff mode. No cost information was revealed, but it was revealed the game will be a digital release on PS3/4, Xbox 360/One, and mobile platforms.

R.B.I. Baseball 14 will release on the PS3/Xbox 360 initially (reported to be April 10), with the next-gen consoles release following that. You can see more screens of the game here.

What do you think? Is R.B.I. Baseball 14 what you expected? Are you going to buy?

Hmmm, I'll download this for ps4 just because I like all things baseball. Hell, being visually impaired, the graphics won't bother me. The big issue is sound, I'll have to hear it and listen to the announcers, (if there's even broadcasters,) before I buy.

Is this the actual hitting view?

I'm all for retro style graphics. For instance, OlliOlli on the Vita looks great, and it's barely using more pixels and colors than most Super Nintendo games.

But the artwork in these RBI 14 screenshots is just plain ugly.

I would actually argue that well-drawn, sprite-based games like Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball look superior.

At least RBI 14 does have some decent grass textures and player shadows.

Not what I was hoping for but can't say I'm surprised. Glad I've hung on to my PS3 so I can still play the Show.

Yep, it's just what I thought it would be (although I didn't think they'd go with the retro-graphics look). Looks like a fun diversion similar to Tecmo Bowl Throwback.

Definitely want to see some video to see what the game speed is like (by which I mostly mean the ball speed off the bat - whether it's slow like RBI or fast like Ken Griffey)

Will definitely take a look at this, I'm a casual fan of baseball and this might be right up my alley.

The article also sounds like the goal is to just make the gameplay fun. If they get that, it's a success.

For you youngsters out there this was RBI 93 for the sega genesis. My guess would be 14 will be modeled pretty close to this.....

I will most definitely buy it. RBI Baseball holds a special place in my heart. Can't wait!

At 20 minutes per game, a season can be done in under 60 hours. That's pretty brisk.

I love baseball and still will purchase. Sad to see no season mode more than one year.

If the game plays smooth, realistic, and has a small basic editor for a roster if need be, I'd be very satisfied.

One minor thing that is nice is the fact that the pitcher and batter both have their stats up on screen during the at bat (it appears that way from the screenshot.)

And ya the graphics are simplistic, but if you look at all the screen shots, Holiday appears to be bulkier, and Gordon is really thin. There is a bit of realism there. I'm being very optimistic. I'm definitely giving this a try.

No online? For real?

It could be fun although unimpressed with the graphics. My biggest disappointment is no online multiplayer which I feel they are really dropping the ball on not having. Might have to wrangle up another 360 controller and gets some bro's over for some game time though

Dude, those are some ridiculously large gloves.
