R.B.I. Baseball 14 News Post

At the end of the day, R.B.I. Baseball 14 is pretty much exactly what we thought it would be. A report filed by Polygon says the game will be the fast-paced baseball game from your childhood with two button controls.

Quote:
"It's going to be very true to the roots of the brand, of R.B.I. Baseball," said Jamie Leece, vice president of games for MLB Advanced Media, in a phone interview with Polygon earlier this week. "It will be fast-paced; games can be played in under 20 minutes. From a user control standpoint, fans will find the controls to be 'classic,' reminiscent of the two-button controls from games of that generation."

MLB also commented that players will behave as they do in real life, with real-life data being the basis for attributes and player behavior within the game. The game will feature a season mode, an exhibition mode, and a playoff mode. No cost information was revealed, but it was revealed the game will be a digital release on PS3/4, Xbox 360/One, and mobile platforms.

R.B.I. Baseball 14 will release on the PS3/Xbox 360 initially (reported to be April 10), with the next-gen consoles release following that. You can see more screens of the game here.

What do you think? Is R.B.I. Baseball 14 what you expected? Are you going to buy?

To clarify, MLB Advanced Media says it'll be "fast-paced" but not "arcade" -- i.e., no power-ups like The Bigs or MLB Slugfest.

I'm sure the mechanics and gameplay will be enjoyable, but man, those player models look awful.

As a husband and dad, 20 minute games are much more doable than the hour required by the recent baseball sims. If it's fun and produces reasonably accurate results, I'll be happy. The 16-man rosters isn't ideal, but I've live with it.

Three player models on a next-gen system sure is disappointing.

Depending on the price, I'll still probably buy... on mobile.

Looks like generic stadiums as well.

Glad I decided to bite on a PS4 too. 9 innings baseball on my phone looks as good as that.

iPad for me. I'm not going to waste my PS4's power on this when I can be playing the Show.

Little early for an April Fools joke. Disappointed if these are shots from the consoles.

Not sure if you're following the updates on The Show. Playing with Quick Counts & Fast Play both on should get you through a game in 20-30 minutes. I actually hope this game is more 'arcadey' because it won't do well otherwise.

The comments...lmao.

Still looking forward to it. Nice change of pace when you aren't around to play the show. Fine by me.

I could definitely see this being a "fun" break from the typical sim-gaming rotation. If it's around $20 or less I'd probably give it a try. If nothing else, I see it as a great game for my young boys to play.

$10 or under I'll buy it. Anything more than that I'll pass. Nice to have the Show on my PS4 and this will be a nice change of pace here and there. My neighborhood RBI tourneys back in the day were legendary this will bring back memories! Wonder if classic teams will make an appearance like back in the old days.

I can definitely see where they are going with the game. Sort of how Tecmo Throwback was a re-hash of Tecmo Bowl a few years back. Matter of fact, it would be neat (maybe) if you could swap between "HD" and "retro" graphics.

What makes you say that? All of the pics are of home plate.

Edit: In fact, there is the dirt line from the mound for the Tigers home game, but not in the Red Sox game, so I think you could assume the opposite.

We deserve a game that's similar to The Show that includes Franchise mode, Road To the Show, etc. This is an absolute joke that I wouldn't even download for free on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Truly pathetic they'd make us wait to show us this garbage. Really outdid yourselves Microsoft. Great job.

1.) I'm glad they're releasing an arcade baseball game for PS3 finally (we missed bobble-head pros)
2.) Too bad they took such a generic approach to graphics. They couldn't even manage to use a real life player likeness in the title screen? They should have an option for retro graphics like Tecmo did a few years ago.
3.) So many questions remain re: Gameplay speed, Rosters, Trades, Edits, Sounds, Replays, etc.
4.) Retro Unis, Playoff Mode and in-game Challenges are a good sign, IMO. Can we get the retro RBI theme music too?
5.) If this game has little to offer it will suffer to its direct competitor, which will be quick-count mode in the Show.
