MLB 14 The Show News Post

PlayStation.Blog has posted some more MLB 14 The Show details in their latest blog.
  • You can now carry over your saves to future versions of MLB The Show. MLB 14 The Show lays the foundation for year-to-year saves, meaning you never have to worry about starting your Franchise or Road to the Show seasons over.
  • For some of you, full 9-inning baseball games may be too long for your liking, so we’ve created an all-new Quick Counts option, which utilizes generated pitch counts allowing gamers to play through full games faster than ever. Realistic statistics in this shortened gameplay experience have not been compromised. Users will now be able to play a full 9 inning game in less than 30 minutes, essentially cutting traditional game times in half.
  • We think Road To The Show is the deepest, most realistic single-player experience in sports video games, and we’re making it even better. A few of the new features include a new advancement system, new intuitive player creation process, and all new pre-draft prospect showcase.
  • What makes baseball great are those “big moments.” The power of PS4 will allow gamers to share those moments using the new “share feature” by capturing and publishing their most thrilling baseball moments, from hitting a game-winning grand slam, to picking off a runner at first for a crucial win in a World Series game.
MLB 14 The Show arrives for PS3, PS4 and PS Vita in the Spring of 2014.

Will the carry over saves include 13 to 14 or will carrying 14 over to 15 be the earliest we can see this?

Nope... Doesn't work that way.

I'm very interested how carrying over saves will work. On one hand it seems quite simple, but reality is usually more complex than it seems. At it's simplest it sounds like overwriting X(1) with X(2) and Y(1) with Y(2),(2) being the old save.

Will the year be correct, or will we be magically transported back to 2015? How much data will transfer? Is it just rosters, contracts, budgets, records, statistics, awards, etc. If something new is added to franchise how will the game handle that? Will it randomly generate the data for the new content?

It sounds great conceptually, but to me it sounds like some complacency might be setting in regarding the status of their franchise mode (regarding content as opposed to AI).

With all these awesome screens from SCEA and 2k of handcrafted real players, I really want to know how generated players will end up looking. Not that this will break the game, but it would look kinda silly to see a realistic looking Bryce Harper next to a really awkward looking Corky Fugate.

Damn, this sounds exciting.

That's just wong, man, so very wong. I'm sure someone at San Diego Studios is going to be getting a phone call from Kolten's mom and a few overzealous Cardinal fans.

Spoiler

Generated pitch counts are something Ive wanted for so long. Im so thankful they are adding this. Games will be quicker and I want have to choose between trying to get a realistic number of walks and pitch counts, or getting through a game in a timely fashion.

I really hope the vita version gets generated pitch counts as well.

The benefits of GPC's are huge IMO

- Walks/strikeouts will occur more often
- Higher pitch counts in certain games
- Shorten time of playing
- Talk about some stress with runners on!

I am pumped

My only hope is that it is available in all modes of play.

I have never, ever even thought about having generated pitch counts. This will be great. It's a much better solution to simulating games every so often. I used to play a game and then simulate two. I bet with generated pitch counts it will only take 5-10 minutes to play a game so that will eliminate the need to simulate games for me. I'm assuming this will work on both sides of the ball? If so that could help create more user walks that are issued to the computer.

Exactly. Rather than playing one then simulating one or two, it shortens the play time down by a half or more, depending on how much of a free swinger you are. Plus, it'll make it more interesting to pitch.

I really hope ratings play a big factor. If you have a player with a good eye and a pitcher with poor command, its more likely to start ahead in the count.

I cant wait until they release more info about how GPC works. I was so disappointed they didnt include it last year, but now it makes the jump to next gen even better.

My hope is for GPC(the new short for it....nice Bondsfan!)
You get the option of...
-Specific pitch count always(0-2...1-2...etc)
-Hitters count....3-1.....3-0...2-0...2-1...etc)
-Pitchers count....1-2....etc...
-Ratings specific....generated by ratings...random...but slanted by ratings..
-Totally random

ASB had this(except for the ratings specific) and I loved that.

I DOUBT it will be like this to start....most likely either random or ratings based....but I'm sure it can grow from there.

I have always wanted generated pitch counts so this is great news. Im OCD about not cutting thru things to finish games faster, so having a generated pitch count will speed up my games. Now the only problem I have is having th emoney to buy a PS4 Im afraid I wont be able to get one for atelast another year unless finances change in a big way.

The problem with all of those options is you have to throw out the idea of having realistic stats.

Me neither, if i wanted to finish my game in 15 minutes id play the Baseball equivalent of NBA Jam.

That said, each to his own, options cant be a bad thing, but yeah, to me its an odd one too.

It's not my thing, but I'm still glad it's in because there are so many people that wanted it.
