MLB 14 The Show News Post

PlayStation.Blog has posted some more MLB 14 The Show details in their latest blog.
  • You can now carry over your saves to future versions of MLB The Show. MLB 14 The Show lays the foundation for year-to-year saves, meaning you never have to worry about starting your Franchise or Road to the Show seasons over.
  • For some of you, full 9-inning baseball games may be too long for your liking, so we’ve created an all-new Quick Counts option, which utilizes generated pitch counts allowing gamers to play through full games faster than ever. Realistic statistics in this shortened gameplay experience have not been compromised. Users will now be able to play a full 9 inning game in less than 30 minutes, essentially cutting traditional game times in half.
  • We think Road To The Show is the deepest, most realistic single-player experience in sports video games, and we’re making it even better. A few of the new features include a new advancement system, new intuitive player creation process, and all new pre-draft prospect showcase.
  • What makes baseball great are those “big moments.” The power of PS4 will allow gamers to share those moments using the new “share feature” by capturing and publishing their most thrilling baseball moments, from hitting a game-winning grand slam, to picking off a runner at first for a crucial win in a World Series game.
MLB 14 The Show arrives for PS3, PS4 and PS Vita in the Spring of 2014.

For generated pitch counts, essentially you cut your game time in half.

Instead of playing pitch for pitch, which takes forever you can kind of play at-bat to at-bat. So instead of always starting out at a 0-0 count, you start out at a 3-1 count or a 0-2 count. It's randomized so you never really know what you'll get, but it helps for a good amount of walks and strikeouts.

So anyone care to speculate how carry over saves will work? If a created player from OSFM is called up in '14, will he be replaced with an official SCEA version in '15? Will his stats carry over? Will we be able to import players mid franchise?

If SCEA can nail this, the Show will be a cut above any other sports game (that is until the others figure out how to do it as well hehe).

There are some finer points to that because not everything in baseball happens on that last pitch (pickoffs, wild pitches and passed balls, for example), but I'm sure we'll get more specifics on how it works later.

I'm curious how the game decides what the meaningful pitch of an at-bat should be (when a gamer is in control of a hitter). A hitter can always decide to let a pitch go, do nothing, and the count goes deeper. That is, if you are patient. But if you are hacker who swings at the first strike in every at-bat, that's possible too.

How many pitches a batter sees is very dependent on his approach, so I'm afraid (not really afraid... there will surely be an option to see every pitch anyways) that generated counts may not adapt to your hitting approach. Curious how the game will be handling this.

I can't imagine how they could ever import new rosters or any of that on-the-fly. I'd imagine you are locked to the rosters you started with, and you just get the benefit of the new platform, and any changes made to stadiums, physics, etc... in, say, MLB '15.

I think the roster/players is currently saved directly to each mode save file, so like Bobhead said I think we will be carrying over the set of players you started with (plus player progression, etc.). I hope importing players any any point would be possible, but who knows.

Being a son of Debbie Downer (and the dad is a chicken), I'm afraid (again, not really afraid.....) that the stability of player progression will be very important in order for the franchise/season/RTTS save file carry-over to be really useful. Player progression is a very dynamic thing and it is definitely one of the hardest things to balance well, but I hope this is something that ends up being well done. If the whole league plays unrealistically (as in stats, etc.) after 5 years or so, the appeal of the save file transfer will be severely diminished I think.

Seeing the items that will be in for the upcoming release, It is such a nice confirmation that the devs at SD Studio do really value our voices with regards to what we want to see happen in this game.

The game will just simulate your at bat then hand the controls over to you to finish it off, they may give you control of an at bat with 3 Balls 2 Strikes and you finish it off.

It will also allow you to do so as the pitcher too, if I'm not mistaken. So this generated counts mode will mean you won't have to play the game in full, which can take at least 1 hour up to even 3-4 hours depending on how you play it.

With the carry over saves and generated pitch counts, my goal of finishing a full 162 game season will be accomplished!

Only SCEA could make me appreciate something Boston, Fenway man, damn.

When something usually as mundane as a scoreboard gets that kind of love, you know you are dealing with a dev team that cares.

Ridiculous detail.

Carry over saves. Been wanting that for years. Hopefully this will be something all games start to include.
What I hope we also see is the game recognising achievements in previous iterations during gameplay with Stat Overlays or Commentary.

Game changer

Will it work cross platform? Say I play MLB 14 on PS3, then want to import that into MLB 15 on the PS4?

Is the saving the franchise from year to year just for next gen consoles or can you do it now with the ps3?

Saves carrying over is the biggest game changer in years.

Generated pitch counts!?!?!

I felt like I got so many dirty looks from baseball purists when I repeatedly said I wanted them in. I loved it in ASB 05. I just like having my hand forced in certain situations and it does help the game move along. I want to play 162 games but just need the games a bit shorter. You can't alter quarter length and reducing AB's is out of the question.

Thank you so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how long before we here about comeback logic or late game situations with generated pitch counts that are in AI favor whether it be at the plate or on the mound? I know I mentioned this when generated pitch counts were first discussed here
