NBA Live 14 News Post

Earlier today the NBA Live 14 team hosted a Twitter chat with Gameplay Designer, Scott O'Gallagher and Executive Producer, Sean O'Brien.

It's still too early for the team to show any 5 on 5 gameplay footage, but they plan on showing it off later this summer, along with the full feature set of gameplay modes.

We didn't expect too much from the chat, but quite a bit of information was revealed. Below are some more relevant details that came from the chat.
  • Team specific playbooks, team specific defenses
  • A.I. will be driven by real world data with CourtQ
  • Shot percentages determined by different contest levels
  • Fatigue will affect player speed and performance
  • Player accessories and player likeness will remain in lockstep daily and throughout the year
  • The Ignite Engine will improve animation quality, physics and fluidity
  • You can get dunked on and see various animations, none of the animations are canned
  • Full featured title
  • 5 on 5 gameplay will be shown in the summer, along with the full list of game modes
  • Xbox One and PS4 exclusive
  • Crowds will have more animation, logic and Gen 4 graphics for more realism
  • You can block dunks
  • Dunk packages are in
  • Authentic arenas, ESPN TV presentation
  • New locomotion systems results in authentic movement
  • Yes, you will be able to call in-bound plays
  • NBA Live 14 will feature legends
  • There will be all types of put-backs
  • We have the #1 ESPN NBA team, and a surprise coming later
  • Sliders are in
  • 40 players with signature moves, plus packages (Melo confirmed)
  • Authenticity is the biggest emphasis on the game, along with everything at the team level - i.e. styles of play, coaches etc.

Live seems to trying to market directly to the sim market, and hope that it can grow from there. That's a risky move, but it could actullay work out for them. However, I'm still not sure why Live has had such a huge problems with player models in their games. They don't seem to have that problem in any other sports game produced by Ea, for some reason the players always look extremly skinny on the live products.

Personally, I'm pumped for the return of LIVE. It has been a very long time for us EA fans. It seems that everytime they say something about the game it is either positive or it will really be a game-changer. Really on to LIVE '14, already paid it off in full at my local gamestop. Whether the gameplay sucks or not still a day one for me.

Hopefully that surprise is that we have a halftime show and the option to chose different broadcast teams

Also, i just pray tendencies will reflect in dynasty. I know guys change their game every now and then but i dont want to see wade have 118 3point attempts in january

Yeah, I love half-time shows. I still watch the half-time show every time I play 2K7. I think in this day and age, every sports game should have a half-time show with stats, clips and commentary.

I don't know what Elite's half-time show was supposed to be like, but if they did something good there, I sure hope they can bring it back and make it even better.

I wouldn't mind them bringing back the National Anthem for the finals.

If live 14 comes out with an innovative and in depth association mode, right down to realistic stats and CPU team building, then damn they might just convert me from 2k. But thy HAVE to make sim a priority. As some people have said it won't work for them if they start out trying to appeal to casuals and them sim. It has to be sim at the core.

Agreed, 2k has left the sim-door, so to speak, wide open. There really hasn't been a sim basketball game since Live has been absent. 2k went in the casual direction to capitalize on Live's fan base I believe.

But yea, if Live can deliver a game with core simulation gameplay, something positive that they can build on, then they have succeeded in my book.

EA kills me with all the "new features" they advertise for their games. Not a 2k fanboy, but there's nothing on this list that they haven't already done years ago. I used to love NBA Live, and I'd really like to see them make another run to keep the heat on 2k and give everybody a better experience. That being said, considering how god awful their attempts at a basketball sim have been the past few years, along with the fact that they're attempting to jump to next-gen, I'm gonna have to do 2k this year and see how things pan out next year, when hopefully the new consoles are cheaper and some of the kinks have been worked out.

2K12 was a very sim game. It had flaws but to me it was the simmest 2K to date.

hoop players are RAIL THIN a lot of times. i remember after kobe tweeted a pick of him with some other guys on crutches after he injured his achilles. everyone thought he lost all of the weight on that foot. he just had the cast on for like 2 days. people didnt realize how THIN his legs really were.

So the skinny EA guys are actually more realistic. the biggest issue with the skinny look, is that it looks GENERIC. its one thing to be thin but with features that match the person not just in face but arm size, leg size, waist, shoulders, etc(i mean can you tell marion is marion with his high shoulders? probably not, but you should be able to see that kind of detail.)
if the gameplay is good i can look past that but they should work on it the year after

I agree with what alot of people are saying and I hope Live just goes for Sim community and makes a Good basketball game that folks with knowledge about the game can use it to compete, I'm really good at 2k but as a sim baller its crazy how you get pointed out because you run 10-15 plays and slow game down because you play real ball instead of Run around with a Superstar and exploit him in 2k. I have a good feeling about live this year. Models can always be tinkered with but If you notice it seemed as if Kyrie was the only polished Model all others were pretty generic looking ie Paul, Jordan.

Block shots with everything besides hands lol.

I need something a little different from 2k. Im hoping if the mentioned features are done right, we might have something to look forward to in the future. I just hope it will be a great base and decent start.

I havent played something I would consider sim since 2k10 and Live 10.

You mean the game with 70% shooting percentages out of the box that topped off at bout 60% after all patches ? There was ZERO paint contact out of the box and that is not a exaggeration. Help defense was pure crap and the game was a dunkfest. Then add the fact that jumpshots were hit too consistently with anyone even on HOF. Nothing sim about 2K10.

Why did he get a warning? I didn't see anything bad.

He previously had something against the TOS in his signature.

As long as they avoid the "Never seen before" stuff, there is some hope.
