NBA Live 14 News Post

Earlier today the NBA Live 14 team hosted a Twitter chat with Gameplay Designer, Scott O'Gallagher and Executive Producer, Sean O'Brien.

It's still too early for the team to show any 5 on 5 gameplay footage, but they plan on showing it off later this summer, along with the full feature set of gameplay modes.

We didn't expect too much from the chat, but quite a bit of information was revealed. Below are some more relevant details that came from the chat.
  • Team specific playbooks, team specific defenses
  • A.I. will be driven by real world data with CourtQ
  • Shot percentages determined by different contest levels
  • Fatigue will affect player speed and performance
  • Player accessories and player likeness will remain in lockstep daily and throughout the year
  • The Ignite Engine will improve animation quality, physics and fluidity
  • You can get dunked on and see various animations, none of the animations are canned
  • Full featured title
  • 5 on 5 gameplay will be shown in the summer, along with the full list of game modes
  • Xbox One and PS4 exclusive
  • Crowds will have more animation, logic and Gen 4 graphics for more realism
  • You can block dunks
  • Dunk packages are in
  • Authentic arenas, ESPN TV presentation
  • New locomotion systems results in authentic movement
  • Yes, you will be able to call in-bound plays
  • NBA Live 14 will feature legends
  • There will be all types of put-backs
  • We have the #1 ESPN NBA team, and a surprise coming later
  • Sliders are in
  • 40 players with signature moves, plus packages (Melo confirmed)
  • Authenticity is the biggest emphasis on the game, along with everything at the team level - i.e. styles of play, coaches etc.

The focus on the gameplay is sounding pretty good, but I'm really wondering about how in-depth of a franchise were going to get, what type of team up modes were getting, and just how customizable the game will be. All I know is the 4 year wait might of been worth it if they can successfully deliver what they say.

Please Please Please let them bring back the wonderful pick and roll action from live 10. The NBA game now is completely dominated by the pick and roll and live 10 had it down. That game had superior court spacing then any 2k game and the pick and roll control was so easy and masterful at the same time. Complete game changer to me if they can bring that back while adding these new features and axing the canned animation. Basketball is my life, games are my favorite hobby and the NBA 2k series is the most overrated sports franchise in history, I need this to be good lol.

Honestly, franchise modes haven't much improved in the last decade if you ignore gimmicks and eye candy. So if the mode is providing realistic generated players with balanced league strength even years deep ( which 2k didn't manage to do), that's enough for me. A nice draft interface without the stupid scouting point crap, realistic transactions/free agency and customizability of CPU controlled teams, so we can fix flaws ourselves and I'd be completely happy. They don't need spectacular new features, just keep it simple and make it work.

If they offer above average gameplay, animations and graphics, a "high" degree of customization and editability, a deep franchise/dynasty mode and a better online experience than 2K, they would be a for sure buy for me (it seems a lot but it really isnt) ... as of now and merely judging by what they say they are aiming, I am genuinely interested.

I don't think they have to be better than 2k just a good but different experience and ill buy both. But it does seem like they are aiming to Be more "sim"

Oh, I am buying 2k regardless, hehehe ... but Live, I agree, dont expect it to be better (thus would be a plus) just good and if so, is a buy !

All I can say is if we can get the same amount or BETTER realism in Live as 2k, but with more control than the animation driven 2k, I will be completely happy
Amen, brotha. I'm with you on every word you typed.

So, do my comments get deleted because I say 2k was overrated? lol. Whatever, I hope this game delivers so I can play actual basketball online instead basketball cheese.

People getting mad at EA because their not showing 5 on 5 gameplay lmao!!!!!!!

Why would they show gameplay or tell us about ALL of their features and game modes before 2k has barely told us anything ....

anyway I'm looking forward to both games

Its like yall don't even want Live to succeed because TBH 2k hasn't always been that good .... they have been lazy the last 2 years and people fail to realize that 2k11 was the best in the series .... 2k12 and 2k13 are average

Actually, a NBA Live 08 gameplay video was released on June 2007. This Live 08 video was taken on June 14 (according to the video), and was posted around that time (and I'm pretty sure I saw another video from back then).

But this time around, since the release date is a little later than usual, I guess we'll have to wait more. Seems like they're a bit more cautious this year when it comes to marketing...for better or worse...

I'm still skeptical about the Live team, due to their recent history, but I'm excited about what I've heard from them so far. It's starting to sound really, really good. Looking forward to seeing some gameplay.

we have already seen what a basketball game looks like without canned animations "nba elite". So your comment is meaningless.

That ignite engine is nice...it was enough for me to preorder NCAA football 14...it plays great and I love how physics is handled...

I don't know how it will translate to bball but its definitely an advantage over 2k if implemented correctly.

Looking forward to a new and different NBA game. It may not top 2k but it's different.

The engine running NCAA 14 is Infinity 2

The Ignite engine is what the next-gen games (FIFA 14, Madden 25, EA UFC, NBA Live 14) will use on PS4 and X1.

# 79 Goffs @ 06/29/13 10:09 PM
ah ok thanks for the correction...I'm curious how the physics engine will be utilized on NBA live....should be an interesting summer...

all I know is that I'm tired of seeing arms going through each other on 2k....EA on the right track with this...here's hoping they don't **** up like they are known to do...

I would like to see a pc version for future Live games so 2k will have competition on that platform as well...show 2k how patching a game works..

I know i might be feeding into the hype, but Live might actually be on to something here. I know you can't judge a game without gameplay, but they do seem like they want this to be sim. Just glad to see Live is back and there might be more innovation between EA and 2K.
