I am definitely liking the fluidness of the game play and the interaction between players on the field. One thing that still perplexes me is the "flatness" of the overall crowd sound...... I am hoping that the audio is lacking because of some of it being left out of the demo to save space, but I am not convincing myself! The biggest difference in the college football experience is without a doubt the CROWD! I hope the final version brings this out.

Overall though the gameplay of this demo, for the first time in this ENTIRE generation of NCAA football games, actually has increased the chances I will pick it up Day 1.

I've played several demo games and was holding off to give my impressions until I got a better feel at how the demo gameplay had changed.

Right off the bat, I noticed how players felt as if they had weight. Big kudos to EA for this. Players no longer feel like a ping pong ball, just bouncing all over the field with no slow down at all. Is it perfect? no. But it is a definite upgrade to what we've seen in the past several years.

The CPU running game is the best it has been since ps2. I love seeing the CPU RB run with a purpose. Hopefully, gone are the days of the CPU not being aware of defenders and running into them or just running out of bounds in the open field for no apparent reason. The option is ran beautifully by the CPU and while not perfect, it gets the job done.

The defense has stepped up its game this year also. I was getting gashed by the pass and run, but was able to adjust accordingly and start to slow the offense down. I just had to slow down and plan around the CPU's tendencies. It took a drive or two to pick up on what they wanted to do. With this said, I didn't totally shut them down, so this is a great thing.

I did see a couple instances of the DB glitch show up in the demo, but it has been said that this is fixed in retail. I for one hope so, because this was a game breaker for me last year.

All in all, this game is very much polished and has provided an enjoyable experience in my time with it. Perfect? Far from it. I'm not expecting perfection. I'm just expecting an enjoyable experience with a high replay value. So far EA has provided this.

Positives:

- Menus look and feel much better.

- Atmosphere is better. The crowd chants are awesome.

- Player celebrations after big plays are cool.

- The gameplay feels smoother.

- New animations are nice.

Negatives:

- CPU QB's run way too early. It's like they make 1 read and take off running if it's not open.

- Read option seems too easy. It's going to be an issue online IMO.

- Defenders not reacting to the play. Often my CB or S will just stand there while a HB or QB runs right past him.

- Passes over the middle are ridiculously easy to complete.

- Assisted tackles not working(I'm sure this is an easy fix)

- CPU QB completion % is too high even with adjusted sliders.

Overall the demo is pretty much what I expected. It feels like a more polished version of NCAA 13. The atmosphere adds a lot, but we're still dealing with the same tired gameplay. It's not a great game, but it's also not terrible.

yealp seems my defenders are stupid as well.. they just stand there watch guys run or watch the ball go right by them.. they make no effort to go for the ball.. quite annoying.. hopefully its addressed in the final copy.. not sure what the deal is..

Just out of curiosity I just played Michigan (me) vs Ohio State with QB ACC at 0 and INTs at 35. Everything else at default.

Here are the stats:

Mich QB - 5-12, 52 yards, 1 INT, 41%, LNG of 36 yards, 1 drop and 2 deflections

Ohio State QB - 8-14, 75 yards, 57%, LNG of 26 yrds, no drops or deflections.

Pretty much all of the CPU's incomplete passes and about half of my completions were overthrown

I honestly had given up on last years edition, along with Madden 13. I played this demo and was so happy. I really wish they let us view replays in the demo but i understand why they wouldn't. I had a play where i was literally fighting with the other teams RB running down the sidelines trying to get him down past his stiff arm and i finally forced him out of bounds and the whole animation was sooo much better than i'm used to. I also saw multiple occasions where my RB had used his hand to push off/get around the OL to get to an open hole. and my god the CUTS! Okay, i'm gonna stop because everything has already been said, but lemme just say, this game is f-ing awesome!

Just finished a VTech (me) vs Alabama game.

McCarron had a tough time throwing the ball. 6-13 for 62 yds 0 TD 1 INT. You can really tell the difference between offenses in this game. Going against Alabama then playing against A&M with Oregon, you get a totally different experience.

Back to the Alabama game, I possessed most of the clock much to my surprise by running it down their throat. I really like the zone blocking, had some nice cut back lanes. I did notice Alabama DB's giving a bunch of cushion early in the game, then after a couple short curl route completions they tightened up their coverage. Nice to see the CPU AI trying to make adjustments.

First time in a long time I am excited for this release.

One thing I've been doing is turning down CPU/HUM QBA to 5, and simultaneously turning down pass coverage to 35. This - in large part - eliminates route mirroring without breaking the game wide open for the offenses.

Basically, you see more wild passes and less knock-downs by the defense.

I'm curious as to the logic of lowing the CPU pass coverage. Don't we want to make it harder to pass over the middle? Or does this combination do that somehow?

Hell it even happens to the best of them. The Show, widely considered the gold standard of sports games had a bug at one time, that counted the run, if a runner crossed the plate before the final out of the inning was made.
Isn't it out in two weeks??

The demo is more than likely an older build compared to the game that's basically final.

It should be out this Tuesday, as in the past Silver members have had a one week waiting period.

I've had games like that...but I'd say in 30+ demo matches...maybe 2 or 3 ended up with stat lines like that. The large majority were much more in the 10-12, 7-11 with 2 Picks type of range.

I'd like to see a much more impactful QB Accuracy slider at launch. If I set the slider to 0....that QB should go 1-10 even with no pressure. Set at 100 he should be Robo QB. Unfortunately..there doesn't seem to be that drastic of a slider differential as of now.

I definitely agree with Ben on the turning INTs and Pass Defense Down (at least for the CPU). My DBs tend to get burned plenty even at default on AA. Heisman its a bit better.

The areas that really shine in this demo continue to be the CPU ground game, improved pulling guards, TE/FB blocking and WR downfield blocking. I have been able to run slip screens, WR screens, etc. successfully due to this.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one completely in love with it. I really enjoy being able to see all my offensive weapons and their matchups.

I'm going to try that. I've been putting the INT's slider on 35 because at 50 DB's were catching everything they got their hands on. I'll definitely try moving pass coverage to 35 too. Thanks for the suggestion.

Yeah, I agree with you here, but like you said earlier - The QB's in the demo are some of the highest rated in the game. I don't think it's going to be much different in the final version since this is a legacy issue. With that said, I can't wait for the Season Ticket, so we can see how accurate the lower rated QB's are.

Also completely agree about the blocking and the screen game. Like I said earlier I think the Smoke Screen will be a great weapon. Especially with big physical receivers being covered by a smaller CB. This also makes the the new WR match-up that much more useful. One of things that I would like to see them improve upon is the CPU's ability to run screens. In my first game I played VT connected on their first screen pass for a gain of 15 yards and they haven't completed another one since. In fact, in their past 4-5 screen attempts I've sacked them every time. Hopefully, that's fixed in the retail version.

I have to say the more I play the demo the more I love it. The ai is just a lot smarter this year. In years past the game would become stale after a short while because of the horrendous play calling by the ai. Sure there are some little things that can get annoying, but if people can look past them and not expect a perfect video game than they can realize how much of a step up this game is compared to previous versions. Now lets just hope the retail version plays like the demo.

# 979 shando14 @ 06/23/13 07:32 PM
I agree with everyone here. All the new changes make the game feel more natural. I have played all games an matchups on default Heisman with good results. I don't feel that making slider adjustments are necessary in a Demo as it won't represent what will be in the retail version. The only thing I am going back and forth with is the Wide Camera angle vs. the Coordinator Cam. Both take some getting used to but I enjoy the fact that we can see the whole field and helps with making reads on offense. I not ever play on normal again as long as he option is available. Overall if the Demo is this good then we all should get pretty good use out of this years installment.

Good Day Friends...

I'd say the "sweet spot" is 35 for both HUM and CPU. Like you said...at default...it's pick city on both sides.

I've played 2 more games with both HUM and CPU QB acc at 5, on All American. I have CPU Pass Defense at 35, Human Pass Defense at default 50 and both INT at 35. I've gotten much better results these last 2 games on decreased QB percentage than that initial matchup, so that's promising.

I've gone back and forth between Heisman and AA, but honestly..as of now...I'm leaning more towards AA. I like the OL/DL interaction on AA as opposed to Heisman due to more "ratings specific" performance. I'm timid in using Heisman as I still see a bit too much brick walling of higher rated DL by inferior OL at the Heisman level.

The CPU is sooooo much smarter this year that there really isn't much difference in overall CPU Offensive Playcalling AI and peformance on AA vs Heisman....at least in my opinion.
