Madden NFL 25 News Post

VSN has posted a new podcast with Madden NFL 25 Creative Director, Michael Young. There are quite a few interesting presentation nuggets included, some of which we have listed below.
  • The Presentation playbook went away this year, but that doesn't mean the team hasn't been working hard on it.
  • Year 2 with Nance and Simms adds more depth in commentary, especially in career mode, more details on that at a later date.
  • Replays feel more human, varied and specific to the types of plays. Using real cameras, from the real locations in the stadiums (framing, timing, etc.)
  • New animated tickers, banners, feels more like a broadcast.
  • Added more team chants, first down and stadium sounds, since they went to many stadiums with Jim and Phil and grabbed live recordings.
  • More authentic tracks from various stadiums. Redone referee audio.
  • If you move your team, commentators will talk about that.
  • New sideline reporter has been added, will talk about that later.
  • Adam Schefter is still in the virtual news feed, breaking story lines, but he has also been added to the draft commentary.
  • When the draft is running, Trey Wingo is the host and Adam talks about the outlook and expectations of the player.
  • Brand new branching story lines for 30 draft classes and Adam made them sound authentic. Adam has been signed for a couple of years.
  • Can't place players on the PUP list. (Injured reserve IS STILL in the game) - Mike misunderstood the question in podcast.
  • Owners can't bid for Super Bowl hosting.
  • Overhauled Connected Franchise website, much more functional with tutorials.
  • Commissioner tools haven't been locked down, so they couldn't announce any of them.
  • Facial scans were made for most of last year's rookie class (roughly 20 didn't get in) All starting QB's and some QB's that could see some time.
  • Also ran facial scans for coaches, in total close to 100 facial scans made it in.
  • Players get scanned if they are available at events (for example the Pro Bowl) some simply don't want to. Basically EA gets what they can, when they can. It's not as easy as people may think it is.
  • They have tweaked the Zoom camera, didn't mention any other cameras.
  • The rumors are FALSE. There is no PC version of Madden NFL 25.
  • Head coaches, head trainers, head scouts and owners will be featured in story lines, not coordinators.
Remember, these were just some of the nuggets, make sure you listen to the entire podcast here.

Dude....you do the same thing when anybody posts anything "pessimistic" towards Madden,so what's the difference?

Like they say...."if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen".

And this is what is so irritating to me. You are spot on that they have made drastic improvements in a lot of areas, but drastic improvements in certain areas while other areas of the game regress is beyond mind boggling.

Going back to 12 to check on contextual awareness, the lack of quality audio and physics really stand out. The crowd and tackle audio in madden 13 is so much better and the physics give the players a sense of weight that 12 doesn't have. The tackling sounds so weak compared to 13.The replays in 12 were better but that's the only thing I think was better in m12. If the physics in m25 are much improved, then I'm really excited to play m25.

I'm excited for Next-Gen, even if it's just so we don't have to hear the disc-space/memory argument anymore. Whether it's true or not, that will be a thing of the past.

The ballcarrier will put his hand on a lineman so that he isn't just running in place behind him aka Mario running and then go around him, its pretty realistic and I wanna say you saw it first in Madden 10 with the addition of pro tak.

I agree, 13 is my favorite current gen Madden. When I go back and play old current gen Maddens I like 10 the best. Having Pro Tak is cool and I like the speed of the game a lot.

I'm over here laughing at this post. Dude, you post on here telling people M25 will rock their socks and no one can quote any of your Tiburon praising posts? If you can dish it, be prepared to take it as well!

Oh I can take it, ill be dishing out plenty next week. 6 days and counting

Mainly though, ill be posting the new e3 gameplay vids like always and make a thread for them. This is my favorite time of the year on here, should be fun. Ill try to be as unbiased as possible. I do expect to see some pretty exciting news and footage for madden 25 though.

I can't disagree more. The AI for offline solo players on M13 was an abortion. A joke to be honest. 12's AI played a far better game with a great set of sliders. And CCM Stunk. It was a bug filled nightmare. The UI was not nearly as good as it should have been (12's was not great either to be fair). But 12 had a functional franchise mode. I deal with the pinball tackling and lack of better pass trajectories but get a far more realistic game of football compared to the M25 beta known as M13.

I am with you though. If M25's IE 2,0 is cleaned up totally, bugs fixed, Connected Franchise Mode works and the AI from 12 returns (and hopefully is even better) then I will pick up M25. But I will be very patient and wait at least 2 months after it's release to make a move.

12 was the best Madden to date (with 10 a close 2nd) IMO top to bottom this gen.

I'm pretty big on presentation and commentary too, madden 12 got really stale quickly in that department but for me I can't play 12 anymore after playing 13. I don't really use sliders so I don't know about that. I just play all-pro default on m13 with CPU qb and WR skills increased.

I don't agree with this. I don't believe it's ignored, rather that the 512MB of RAM in current gen consoles doesn't allow for the intelligence to grow much more than what we have.

I don't think it's ignored, I just think we're seeing the limits of 8 year old hardware.

Why do I think this?

Well for starters most acclaimed AI games are found on PC's, not consoles. Rare for a console to have a great AI, other than a shooter here and there.

Yes you can reference the few console games with very high quality AI, but they likely don't carry the memory load a sports title does.

This is not a defending EA post, merely a rational and logical conclusion based on what we see in gaming, with a bit of background understanding of AI.

I believe they legit f'd up with modes, design options, etc, but when it comes to things like this? I believe we're limited by hardware.

Next Gen will prove it, one way or the other.

NBA2K11, MLBThe Show 11,12,13

AI is damn good. And those games are feature rich, deep and flat out awesome.

No excuse for AI to backwards on 13 from 12. It went backwards.

Yea it was. Both NCAA 08 and Madden 08 have animations that do that. Heck one time I saw Ian Johnson (Boise State) push off an offensive lineman to juke a defender, it was a thing of beauty!

The AI needs CPU power a lot more then RAM. The next gen console CPUs are maybe 4+ times faster. So we SHOULD see much better AI (on and off the field).

Yeah Kane told me it was too, but not like it will be in madden 25, it will be for both sides of the ball now, so lbs will put their hands on d lineman as they run around them.

Neither are good comparisons imo. The Show is a PS3 exclusive, and games are developed to the lowest common denominator. Meaning, The Show can take advantage of the PS3s hardware advantages, Madden cannot. NBA, on the other hand, is a substantially less intricate game to program; there's simply not as much going on during a basketball game. Not defending EA by any stretch of the imagination, as I'd be the first to point out none of this explains why 2K has infinitely better presentation in their basketball game than EA does with madden. Admittedly, I can't even remember how 12 played at this point, so I can't refute that claim. Just my .02

I'm an xbox owner by the way.

NBA 2K has 9 AI's on the court.

MLB the Show has about the same.

Madden has 21 player AI's.

I would also consider the requirement of a Madden AI to be much more complex than an AI in the Show. The AI in the Show has to move to a spot, catch a ball, then pick one of 5 locations where to throw. Madden AI have to account for many things all at the same time, that's football. They all have to identifiy the play, react, then react to all other 21 players and what they are doing, then make a split second decision if they are involved in the play. You're going to argue that's the same computing requirement?

Furthermore, you can find just as many complaints about the AI in those titles with a simple google search ('NBA2K11 Player AI' returns 3 links on the 1st page about bad teammate AI). I was referencing PC titles, such as Total War or Half Life, where the AI is considered some of the best ever written by gamers and media alike, not just "being better than Madden" which really isn't much of an achievement.

Give me a break. Gave dev's have been saying for over a year their titles are maxing out the consoles. Hardware is a problem.

This doesn't counter the argument no matter how many internet ragers like your post.

As a 49ers fan, the Seahawks are definitely our top rival at this point in time because they're a constant pain in the *** and talent/depth wise, right behind the Niners. Rams are third and have an excellent front seven defense and two excellent cornerbacks but they let both of their starting safeties to leave and thats a huge negative in my opinion. Unless the young guys step up, the safeties could get picked on a lot.

Offensively, your OL should be better with the addition of Long and Safford moving to RT. Didnt agree with letting Jackson leave as honestly, he was one of the few players on the Rams I actually liked. I understand the move but still believe that his veteran leadership and experience is something that the offense needs. In the end, its all about Bradford and how he plays this year. Rams added more weapons for him through the draft even though they are rookies. I think that TE Jared Cook will be Bradford's blanket guy.

Despite going 0-1-1 against the Rams, im not really concerned with them at all because in SF, the tie only happened because Akers missed the damn FG and the loss was because of stupid play calling. I can honestly say that my main concern with my 49ers is the play calling and has been that way since Harbaugh, Roman and Fangio arrived in 2011. They get too cute with the gadget plays which I hate. They rarely if ever work and quite honestly, any play thats designed to be set up several yards behind the LOS should be scrapped from the playbook. That pitch out to Ginn was one of the stupidest play calls I have ever seen and thats saying something.

Anyway, I do think the games against the Rams will be tough but it all comes down to the Rams offense and if they can score points. The one thing im a lot happier about this year compared to last year is who my starting QB is. Smith was solid but Kaepernick's arm strength/accuracy and playmaking ability makes him a threat on any given play which defenses have to game plan for. With Smith, no defense was game planning for him. I do believe that Kaepernick will be more of a pocket passer out of the option than a runner unless the defense plays like the Packers defense in the divisional playoff game. I think that the team will use the option more as a decoy this year than anything else because they know defenses are going to game plan around trying to stop/contain it.

Should be a fun season though.
Hopefully we can prove you wrong there. I think the biggest thing was how we make your QB beat us. Our offense also caused your D some problems, which was as surprising to me as it must've been to you. Hopefully losing SJax won't negatively impact our chances at maintaining our division dominance.

The offense is being tailoured around Bradford now and the addition of Austin and Cook, as well as Long means that we should see a huge spike in passing offense. We have such diverse offensive personnel that we should have an explosive offense (at least in the first couple of weeks) as long as everyone is healthy.

The Seahawks are annoying. I hate how they're so good at home.

QB cadences were one of the best presentation features in Madden 13, they bring a level of authenticity to the game that I've never experienced in a Madden game. I'm hoping they added more qb cadences for Madden 25. I'm guessing we will get a presentation trailer or something along those lines, sometime this week or else during E3. I was thinking it would be a blog but Mike said in the podcast Friday that presentation info is probably better when it can be seen or heard and not just read about in a blog.
I liked the QB cadences too, they were just far too few of them for it to be considered much of an addition.

I am amazed. How can Madden utilise less space than a short video I film on my camera?

Wasn't the whole bonus of a Blu Ray Disc the fact it could hold 25 GB or something of data?

That is completely criminal that they'd under utilise the space like that.

As for Madden 25, they did not work with Nike to make the uniforms for relocated teams. This is just not a true statement.

I like the gaming industry a lot and feel pretty burned about the past but I don't want people to sit there and believe flat out lies.

That said I will not ruin my reputation or chances elsewhere in the industry by explaining more or just ripping on the company I worked for because there are a lot of good things I did get to do while I was there and there are good people in that company that do want to make the game better.
I really appreciate your insight and your honesty. I find it sad that you cannot blow the whistle on all the despicable actions of EA for fear of ruining your reputation within the industry. You are obviously someone with a lot of integrity and passion for your field and to think anything such as an exposure of corporate lying could ruin your chances to progress frustrate me.

With regards to your statement, I find it ridiculous that this is not a suable 'crime'. At the end of the day, we have been sold and had a game marketed to us based on pretence.

Its not EA's fault that there is an exclusivity agreement but it is EA's fault that they capitalise on this to sell us a pack of lies. They should be exposed and held accountable for this.
