Madden NFL 25 News Post

VSN has posted a new podcast with Madden NFL 25 Creative Director, Michael Young. There are quite a few interesting presentation nuggets included, some of which we have listed below.
  • The Presentation playbook went away this year, but that doesn't mean the team hasn't been working hard on it.
  • Year 2 with Nance and Simms adds more depth in commentary, especially in career mode, more details on that at a later date.
  • Replays feel more human, varied and specific to the types of plays. Using real cameras, from the real locations in the stadiums (framing, timing, etc.)
  • New animated tickers, banners, feels more like a broadcast.
  • Added more team chants, first down and stadium sounds, since they went to many stadiums with Jim and Phil and grabbed live recordings.
  • More authentic tracks from various stadiums. Redone referee audio.
  • If you move your team, commentators will talk about that.
  • New sideline reporter has been added, will talk about that later.
  • Adam Schefter is still in the virtual news feed, breaking story lines, but he has also been added to the draft commentary.
  • When the draft is running, Trey Wingo is the host and Adam talks about the outlook and expectations of the player.
  • Brand new branching story lines for 30 draft classes and Adam made them sound authentic. Adam has been signed for a couple of years.
  • Can't place players on the PUP list. (Injured reserve IS STILL in the game) - Mike misunderstood the question in podcast.
  • Owners can't bid for Super Bowl hosting.
  • Overhauled Connected Franchise website, much more functional with tutorials.
  • Commissioner tools haven't been locked down, so they couldn't announce any of them.
  • Facial scans were made for most of last year's rookie class (roughly 20 didn't get in) All starting QB's and some QB's that could see some time.
  • Also ran facial scans for coaches, in total close to 100 facial scans made it in.
  • Players get scanned if they are available at events (for example the Pro Bowl) some simply don't want to. Basically EA gets what they can, when they can. It's not as easy as people may think it is.
  • They have tweaked the Zoom camera, didn't mention any other cameras.
  • The rumors are FALSE. There is no PC version of Madden NFL 25.
  • Head coaches, head trainers, head scouts and owners will be featured in story lines, not coordinators.
Remember, these were just some of the nuggets, make sure you listen to the entire podcast here.

The sideline reporter is the best thing I got from this.

Very sad to hear theres no cut scenes in the draft.

I also felt his tone throughout the interview belied his words...

an example:

Quote:
"giving people the power to control the realism is.... *sighs* ... something I'm really excited about."

Judging by his tone I am sure he is... lol

I think this is something that epitomises EA's approach to developing Madden...

'Hey guys, we could tune and tweak this here, orrrr we could let the fans do it!!'

Disclaimer: I am in no way trying to say giving us the ability to change and edit things is a bad thing, but it seems EA would rather let US fix the game than do it themselves...
from the other thread.

This is what I've thought all along in terms of the face scans. Not a whole lot they can do if the players don't make themselves available. If they could refine GameFace enough, or revamp the face editor and allow us to edit faces, it could go a long way especially if Madden Share is something where files can be shared but I'm still not all in on that being the case.

So does this mean Ben Roethlisberger will no longer look like he's smelling a fart?

Everything announced for Madden 25 has been very underwhelming. I hope they release a polished product at least.
There's the new foot planting, and run free.

Lots of new blocking animations and types, Re-written run blocking.

Some new defensive stuff.

Some of the presentation stuff just mentioned is exciting, Sideline reporter, real replay angles, new audio.

Owner mode.

I personally think this stuff is exciting.

Obviously if none of that is encouraging for you then that's your opinion, and I understand.

Go to 12:35. He asked whether the IR would return from Madden 12, making me think he didn't see it in Madden 13?

Trying to get clarification before anyone goes off the deep end.

Why do I have a feeling most of there work went into next gen instead of current gen. I never understood why they always finish the game so early every year and they just polish things up. why not work on it longer to get things in, very frustrating. I still think it comes down to space on the disc what is it 4GBs on dvd then ported to 50 gbs on blu ray does not make sense at all to me.
P.S. they said last year that nance and simms would progressivly talk about whats going on through out the season for madden 13, how much you wanna make a bet they just didnt put it in so they could add it for this year, I think EA does this alot for madden has things done but holds them out till next years game and still no word on the challenge system,WTH.
P.S why no news on PENALTIES yet, they better work this year...

That is due to the lengthy authentication and manufacturing process. I'm sure they would work for as long as possible.

e
Ok but then why not have people still working on things to then patch it in day one release? Its just EAs way of saying you get what you get so be happy we did this for you and give us your 60 bucks again. Madden should have there core gameplay years ago atleast 4 or 5 years ago easy but instead they choose to dilly dally around with other stuff.

Can't listen to the podcast on my phone.

When it comes to camera angles, did they leave the door open about announcing any new camera angles (Defensive Reverse Camera)?

Hope at least metallic colors like the 49ers, saints, raiders, lions, etc etc, actually look gold or silver instead of matte, primer-ish...

I posted about this in the uniform thread that has been stickied, don't expect to see much if anything fixed as far as uniforms go, also a lot of teams are adding or making changes to their uniforms along with 3 teams getting all new uniforms, don't expect to see any of the new changes such as the Bills or Chargers collars or even the Giants new alternate white pants.

Also I don't know how correct we should expect the Dolphins, Jaguars and Vikings uniforms to be.

Also we brought IR into Madden for Madden 12, I remember working on this feature very diligently so if it just so happens to have just been removed with the connected franchise changes that would be a rather big shock.

I really feel like they same the same thing every year when it comes to presentation.

New tickers and banners to make it feel more broadcast like. Same thing they said last year. Not sure what ticker they are talking about but according to JP on twitter they wont have a ticker like they do in NCAA. Plus how many years in a row do they keep updating the stat banners. I would like them to say we kept the same banner style but added over 50 new stat banners with player comparisons, game trends, seasonal statistics, etc

Commentary has been improved and they will now talk about whats going on in your franchise. - They said this last year, but hardly talked about your franchise

Better replay system. Hopefully they got rid of those awkard repalys frrom last year when they would show the play develop, cut it off and show another part of the part of the replay from a different angle. It just didn't flow right

I have said this before, but this year it seems like they just didnt add a ton of new stuff and everything that keeps being announced is so uninformative. Almost like they arent saying a ton becasue there isnt a ton of new stuff. Last year we got tons of in depth blogs, from both the developers and the game changers. This year we get a few paragraphs and some interviews that keep answering the same 5 questions.

My guess is this year is just a small improvement over last year, but the main focus was on Next Gen Madden

So no halftime presentation details?

I would like to get a field trip to Tiburon one day, so maybe I can understand the stuff they say. Can someone help an unreasonable consumer like me, with unrealistic expectations understand how Tiburon can add GameFace as a User function where all we need is a photo to scan a real face into the game but they need to physically scan every player live to get them in? I am not so ignorant as to be suggesting that the scanning they do live is the same as GameFace, what I am saying is, if they can't get the live scan why can't the use GameFace until they can?

I miss the days of being excited about what's next in football gaming, even with the new consoles releasing it's more impatience than it is excitement. I wonder how many people realize it's been at least going on 5 years "working hard on presentation", since M10, yet it's still likely not solid. I don't think making games is easy but damn, Tiburon isn't the only company doing it and they have been doing it for decades, so does everything have to take so freaking long and be constantly touted how hard it was?

"We added a sideline reporter and some other things, it feels more like a broadcast", glad to see they got around to that, considering we have been playing OTHER games and especially NFL games, that were like a real broadcast since at least 1999.

Maybe the Tiburon defenders are right and I'm just an unreasonable hatemonger and there is nothing Tiburon can do to satisfy me but reading both the info for NCAA and Madden I just don't understand what's so hard about emulating football. Not even the tech side but the creative process, when it requires ZERO creativity to copy something, it's like tracing versus drawing freehand. DeuceDouglas has put together some great presentation elements in his freaking FREE TIME and as terrific a job he has done illustrating it for everyone to see, they are all simply based on real network broadcast presentation of the NFL.

All this "whining" from me and I haven't even actually listened to the interview yet, do I even dare? lol
I bolded the two lines I agree with the most.

I don't get how its acceptable for a studio whos been making a game for so long continue to say how hard it was.

In this interview Mike Young speaks as if it was hard work re-integrating things they've excluded from before... I just don't get how this isn't suable?

You hit the nail on the head with the second bolded comment... How on earth is it difficult to be creative when 75% of OS can think of great features that replicate real life and are based off of simple technology?

WE ARE DOING THEIR JOB FOR THEM. All they need to do is code it and sell it... Yet they 'find it difficult' or 'couldn't fit it in' despite being able to introduce some useless stuff pretty simply...

By ticker I hope he means an actual one with stats and other game updates. Not the one in the main menue that they say is new every year.

# 16 willh313 @ 06/01/13 11:34 AM
Man I hate to wave that flag but a lot of this stuff was in a game that came out 9 years ago.

# 17 roadman @ 06/01/13 11:53 AM
Waiting for clarification by Steve before jumping the gun or bridges.

Hmmm... Still not true halftime show or end of game show with true highlights and commentary breaking down the action, wow we've been asking for this for over 8 years.

I am guessing no. They had the same quote last year about a ticker and it didnt mean one with franchise scores and news then. Also, JP asked a developer on twitter and he said no there is no ticker like NCAA.

Kind of weird to haev it one game and not the other

It is disappointing they couldnt add this in this year. Last year halftime was just cut scenes and not even your highlights.

At least last year, they added halftime stat comparisons, but you had to sit through the cut scenes to get to it. EA still has a long way to go when it comes to presentation and immersion.
