Tiger 14 News Post

The Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 demo is available now for Xbox 360 users (queue it up here). It weighs in at 1.98 GB.

PS3 users will have to wait until later this afternoon, when the PS Store updates.

UPDATE: The PS3 demo is available now.

Fans Get First Taste of Innovative Gameplay Features

Experience golf from the past and present, and play as golf icon Arnold Palmer in the all-new Legends of the Majors mode, experience the LPGA Tour and get a taste of the Connected Tournaments feature where players can compete online with friends.
  • The Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 demo features one of the most compelling modes in franchise history – Legends of the Majors. The featured challenge, 1961 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, puts players in the shoes of golf legend Arnold Palmer, in the 1960’s era, with the legend’s era-specific attire, equipment and skills. Once the challenge is passed, gamers will unlock 1960’s Arnold Palmer for use in the full version of the game.

  • For the first time in franchise history, the game will feature LPGA integration and gamers can get a preview of the LPGA via the all-new Quick Tournaments feature. Players can use LPGA golf phenom Lexi Thompson on a new course – Oak Hill Country Club.

  • Golf in a “Twenty-foursome” through our all-new Connected Tournaments mode in the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 demo. Compete online against other players or friends and see as many as 23 shot arcs from other players on the course at the same time. Players can get a jumpstart on creating their country club tournaments by going to the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 website.

  • The Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 demo will support motion control and continue the level of immersion as fans can play the demo with Kinect for Xbox 360 or Sony PlayStation Move controllers.

I will certainly give it a fair shake. However, onlookerdelay and I share the same opinion on camera angles. as an avid golfer myself, i feel the source of my gaming satisfaction boils to hitting the golf ball. Crisp impact and watching the ball take off into the distance is what keeps me playing real golf and video golf should be the same. It's especially frustrating when I am so close to reaching video golf nirvana.

Just give us a user definable camera. None of the camera angles provided by EA capture the essence of the game from a golfer's perspective.

Agree. My ideal camera would be looking behind the golfer for about 2 to 3 seconds, then switching to the broadcast cam for green/fairway landing. When hitting some shots this morning, as soon as I strike the ball I get a look of the ball flying through the air looking straight up at the sky which looks like night time (weird) only to see just the impact on the green.

Okay, saw you in the bushes beside me off the first teel Yeltzman I'm now getting shot arcs and a fellow player list... pretty cool! Odd that this is the first time I've seen any of this today, but it's fixed now.

Ah, so our golfer perspective camera legion is growing in number I really don't understand why EA Sports doesn't get the fact that there's a demand for what we're asking. This has such a profound effect upon my enjoyment of the game! I'm going to play the PS3/Move demo as soon as I can download it, and I swear, if the First Person Camera perspective that it offers addresses my complaint about the hyperactive Broadcast camera, I'll probably avoid the 360 version this year and go PS3, provided the Move implementation didn't get hosed. Still lots of ifs to answer yet though.

Hit the Ball So far left went on wrong fairway and it didnt say out of bounds like other games in the past...and ball in bunker not moved as well...all good signs

Seriously, if you're just going to copy-paste a press-release, put it in quotes.

I captured 4 gameplay videos of the Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 14 demo this morning. It is important to note that I am a novice at the series and was playing on the default difficulty level (Pro). Please select "720p" for the best viewing experience.

BagMan, I appreciate you and Fishepa weighing in on this here. I think it's more of an issue with gamers than EA assumed. Here's the response I got to my critique of the demo in this area, from the Executive Producer:

"Sorry we didn't hit your sweet spot with the presentation JC. We were after the tv style more this year because of all the stats we added in."

Then later in response to someone else making the same complaint about the camera insta-switch, he replied:

"come on now. We put in tasks based almost solely on community feedback this year. We may have missed this one camera thing that a few of you wanted, but we can't get everything. You are welcome to your opinion and you definitely don't have to like how we implemented that community feedback. But it's hardly fair to be using the "we never listen to the community" line this year. This game was made for the community."

The Producer's name is Sean Wilson. He really seems like a good guy and is trying to answer questions as honestly as he can. I think they misjudged the demand for this, thinking only a few wanted it. I would encourage you and Fishepa to weigh in on the Demo Impressions thread at the official site about this. They need to know there's more than a few interested in this. Here's a link to it:

Good work Kev5890, I'm sure a lot of folks will appreciate that!

They were so close with True-Aim (at least the camera angle) it just needed some polish.

Thanks for the vids. I'm scratching my head as to why there is a "swoosh" noise during a putting stroke. Total turn off!!

Do any of the devs even play golf?

Damn, I just got home and I can't download the demo. I just keep getting error messages.

EDIT: Nevermind, stupid Time Warner Internet.

First impressions are good. The only gripe I have is the brightness. Waaay to dark. Hope that it gets fixed in the final product.

Guys, check out the replay of the shot that Kev holes at Royal Birkdale in the second video. It happens about 2:48 into the video. THAT'S the type of camera presentation I want for real time gameplay... bump the swing camera up to shoulder/head height (the replay has it at waist height), hold the golfer perspective view for maybe 1 or 2 more seconds, and you have presentation bliss!

I definitely agree with this comment. As you can tell in my videos, the game is a lot darker than in previous versions.

I am uploading one more video of gameplay with the new broadcast camera angles. I will update when it is live.

Impressed with Simulation difficulty so far, nice to have to really think about your shots. Unfortunately the trees are still brick walls in disguise but guess I'll have to try and avoid hitting it near them! Putting distances seem much more tied to the aiming marker than last year. Have missed quite a few short ones by not swinging more fully.

Managed 2 lots of +2 as my best Simulation Connected Tournament score, that mode looks like it could be a blast.

Thumbs up so far, glad I pre-ordered!
