Seems like 99.45% of this thread is debating....

It was meant to be a joke but Figgins and Carp combined for just over 500 innings in the OF and rarely, if ever at the same time. This year they could be looking at Ibanez and Morse manning corner spots, Morales possibly playing some first base, and Montero catching a decent amount of games. That's potentially 4 "DH's" in the lineup at once. Saunders isn't good enough in center to make up for Morse and Ibanez either. I understand Seattle has had trouble developing any sort of offense recently and I get trying to improve that part of their game, but it would be foolish to think their won't be a dropoff in defense as a result.

Lol no, speaking as someone who is far more familiar with the team than you are, that situation would never happen. Smoak at 1st, not Morales. Saunders in left, not Ibanez. Gutierrez in center, not Saunders. Montero and Jaso are both equally bad at catching so no difference there.

Whoever told you Ibanez was going to be a starter or play a significant number of games in left needs to check their facts

And where is this Kershaw injury gave the Giants the division bs coming from? 2nd time I read this. The Giants won the division by 8 games! Kershaw made 33 starts last year. He only missed a couple starts. Assuming they won those games...they still lose the division.

The Giants play a winning brand of baseball. They just don't do it with home runs (except in clutch moments). This rating shows that it's heavily weighted towards home runs and power numbers. I agree though, they might not be the overall best team, but a team that proves they can WIN should be a lot higher. Winning is the name of the game after all.
its the way it came off, hopefully no harm, but They should be up there I cannot argue that. 2 out of the 3 WS proves they need to be high, they are a winning team and there should if anything be an overrating of their players

He did say they could look like that... injuries do happen

I'm not sure why people think Ibanez will receive significant playing time... his situation is similar to Griffey's in '09, this is his swan song. If Guti or Saunders goes down then Wells is the first in line.

You honestly think Ibanez signed with the M's to sit the bench? There's a reason Morse is playing RF.

Some combination of those players will have to be in the lineup. They all can't be bench guys. Montero is going to get his ABs one way or another. Morales is going to have to play some first in order to get his bat in the lineup. Even more so when Zunino comes up. Gutierrez can't be counted on to be the gold glover he once was let alone counted on to be in the lineup after his health issues the last couple of years. And one of the best defenders in the league, Ryan, could see his PT cut if he continues to hit below the Mendoza line.

Jaso is in Oakland now - Montero everyday could be interesting!

There is actually a good number of M's fans on this board. Personally, I hope both the Yankees and Sox sink into the ocean :P

A's should def. be a bit higher than where they are. IMO

I hate how they always overrate the red sox. They shouldn't be in the top 15

Yankees #1 in team defense is laughable to me!!! C'mon...

My 3 teams for baseball are jays Yankees and giants..

As for my feelings on ratings:

Yankees- right where they should be. They are skilled but age is catching up. They wouldn't have gotten as far as they did in playoffs if it wasn't for Raul Ibanez pull a bunch of rabbits out of a hat.

Giants- are just over the average mark when. It comes to talent. Their players just get hot at the right moments. Have you ever noticed they always make for a good feel good story, well that is because they are the underdogs majority of the time. They should be ranked 13th

Jays- the only thing that upsets me about their ranking is that Red Sox is ahead of them. Last year jays were being hyped as a top 10 team with chances of making playoffs. Then they ran into the worst injury situation almost of all time. This offseason they improved drastically on pitching and acquired Jose Reyes or Reyes w.e lol. They are now being predicted to not only make the playoffs but win the World Series . In my opinion they are not to high and not to low they are right on the money. If the jays prove them selves this season I guarentee they will be top 3 next year game

as far as the giants being under rated, the Giants have an MVP at a position that most teams either have a offensive liability or defensive liability. If you have a few good pitchers and every position is reasonably filled, having that MVP as a catcher makes the team a lot better. But individually, not a lot there thats outstanding.

# 177 slickkill77 @ 02/23/13 12:38 AM
The one thing The Show gets wrong every year. The overall rankings, team defense etc...

And to the person that used errors to prove how good the Mariners defense is....just no. Errors are not a good way to judge a defense at all unless you live in the 1960's. They may have a good defense, but errors are not the way you argue that point.

Just like the player rankings, way too much weight is given to certain ratings which end up boosting teams way to high like the Rockies

# 178 AUTiger1 @ 02/23/13 01:10 AM
How are the Red Sox #3? WTF man? I have no reason to believe the Red Sox won't make a serious run at 90 losses again this year. They have no pitching!

# 179 ElectricAggie @ 02/23/13 01:46 AM
The Astros aren't last in every category! Hurray!
