Lets sink the greatest rivalry in sports...what a great idea! I get that every team has fans, that doesnt mean we change the thread to "who starts in the RF for the m's". Lets stay on the subject, thats all.

How are saying the Braves are too high at 8?

Your joking right... 6 elimination games won because the ball bounced their way? 2 championships in 3 years cause we got every call? Do you even know good baseball when you see it? Oh yeah ... Your a dodger fan...

This thread is great.

Every posters favorite team is underrated, and their rival is overrrated?

Did I read Dodger fan say Giants won a couple of world championships because they got EVERY call and EVERY break? Wow. Talk about sour grapes

Wow these are pretty surprising. So the Giants are the defending champs and are behind Colorado and not even considered the best in their own division? The Phillies at number 10? Dodger defense at 2? SMH.

Seeing how this thread has become one of the most active threads in recent memory, I cannot help but be disappointed by the prospect of more realistic player rating system diminishing to nothingness....

SCEA must be doing something right about rating to get people excited it this much.....

I laughed when I saw that the Rockies had the #23 best pitching in the game...they have the the worst by far. And third in offense? Really? Besides Tulo and Cargo they have nobody else. They had the third worst record in the league last year, and now they have a better team than the defending champs..oh great. The reason the Giants are so low is that: Lincegum will have a horrible rating based on his performance last year, they have undervalued guys in the bullpen such as Kontos and Javi Lopez, the game does not factor in the manager, Pence will have bad ratings, there is no team or clubhouse chemistry , and the game doesn't appreciate the amazing defense of Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford. These ratings are only based on the the teams on paper NOT how they play out in the field. The Giants do all the little things right and they are ultimately a top 10 team. Also, Dodgers fans stop hating on the Giants. No matter how much money you spend and how many excuses you come up with, you will never be able to beat us.

The question is from what are the ratings and subsequent rankings derived from? Traditional stats? Sabermetrics? Both? Neither? I think if people knew exactly how the ratings were determined then there wouldn't be as much bellyaching...

The issue with a ranking system like this is that it really doesn't mean much for the purpose of evaluating team talents... I think it's just there to have something like "power ranking" that's kinda popular in the media, to just feed people with something to talk about.... (...see i'm really jaded.....hahaha)

I think the team ratings are derived from player ratings. When you play franchise and look at team ratings before and after spring training, you see the rankings can be drastically different. I'm assuming that's because pre-season, the team ratings are derived from all players (don't know if that's just 40 man or all including minors), but after the spring training and 25/40 man rosters are done, then the team ratings probably are derived from the players on those more limited roster.

So team ratings aren't really what many think they are...

Like I said in a post before about my teams I like which giants are one of them yea they won the World Series but the rankings aren't made up by the playoffs or even by team season performance. It's most likely a culmination of individual player ratings.

The giants are barely an above average team talent wise besides posey who is awesome . Their players just go on hot streaks at the right time.

But I do not think they should be 17 I think based on talent they should be around 12th

People put to much stock in overall ratings, they do the same thing in Madden. The overall ratings imo, rarely equal to the sum of all the parts.

I think you're right. The game of baseball values quality lead-off hitters, defensive range, base running, bullpen pitching etc.

The overall ratings of a player in a video game always values home run power and RBI totals etc.

When looking at the rankings, I think it's kind of obvious that the overall ranks are weighted slightly more towards hitting.

Just got done reading this whole thread. Too funny. Playing the show for many years, the system used is nothing new or different. The team rankings are based on the MLB talents + your farm system. For those who need proof, check your MLB12 game, especially if your using OSFM rosters or current stock. You'll see similar.

Take for example John Lackey of the Red Sox. I know that name may ruffle Bosox fans but with his current rating back to his normal contract bounces back, he would be the ace on many other teams. In Boston, he maybe ranked 5th or 6th best pitcher in 2013.

Also, non MLB players fillers used by SCEA are generic. Some of them maybe prospects, others highly rated fictitious names (think DD). Many of the teams are so closely matched that 1 or 2 players makes a difference that pushes teams up/down the rankings.
