They could of done both I guess. That's why it's going to be real interesting to see what they have actually done in franchise.

A lot of people actually did want the feature, they just wanted it implemented differently.

Personally, I would've preferred some replacement of the newspaper. I read it after every game of the season, both my team and the league one. Not sure why, just found it interesting even though it was kinda repetitive. In this state, twitter is more or less irrelevant to me. I probably won't use this feature, but I do think a lot of people will. I don't care about most of the things the players tweet about, but my 13 year old little brother is probably going to spend more time on this twitter in game than playing games trying to see what CC and the rest of his favorite players are up to.

Regardless, having read through this whole thread, for me it's a little disappointing. Would've preferred franchise integration, didn't get it. Oh well. I also didn't care for DD last year so I'm used to it I guess haha. I'm more upset over the fact that the newspaper isn't coming back than the Twitter deal. And the fact that the only way to keep up with stuff now will be with a ticker on the bottom of the screen. But it's whatever I guess. It'll still be a day 1 purchase. I'll play it nonstop (at least for the first week until God of War comes out, and then jump back on it after that) just like I do every year. Excited for March 5.

Fake tweets to match our RTTS or Franchise would have been very cool, but with the way they have this set up, it would have been much better if it was integrated in to the menu screen or background, like a widget.

I don't see myself or too many others going through the menu to find a twitter feed, but if it was integrated on the screen at all times, it would be more useful.

I think it's a step in a good direction if they find more way to integrate it, but i always have my phone on me, and Twitter loads in 3 seconds and I access tweets that way. Fake tweets would have added more immersion, but either way this affects me in no way.

So the tweets that are shown in game, will it be all tweets by the players' twitter accounts? Or is it only a subset of them?

Also will the twitter handles be set and not change from day one? For example if a player gets traded, will their handle show up on their new or old team? Or will it be dictated at all by the updated rosters?

I'm an old man. I don't use Twitter, and I've learned to not care what any pro athlete or celebrity has to say about much of anything. To those who wanted this feature: cheers. To those who wanted something else: sorry.

But for me:

Wait so there is a way to disable the feature?

I was under the impression that it added a whole new panel to the player cards for example. I don't really care if its on or off. But if you can just disable it entirely than I can understand why poeple would be annoyed that there are those who are complaining about it.

But if it will always be there if you're connected online than I can understand the complaints.

It would be better if it was like Madden, but even in Madden after a few weeks I stopped reading them.

I imagine you would be able to turn it off, yeah. It requires online connectivity, so without the updates I would guess you'd simply have a blank page on the card or something, similar to how it worked with advanced stats when they were added as DLC.

For the record, I don't think anyone is really complaining about it being in as much as some people are upset it's not something else in its place. The "if you don't like it, don't use it" idea that some have mentioned is true enough, but not really applicable to most people's disappointment with it.

In any case, I'm fairly certain that once the game is out and there's more to talk about and examine, this will lose focus for most people.

The problem with the criticism about something else not being in it's place is, this is not a franchise feature. This feature is not in the game in place of a franchise feature or a franchise Twitter feature. The development times for those two features are widely different. If this feature was not in the game something we could have got in the game would have been along the lines of say updated real MLB stats in a player's player card and maybe that would have been better, but it's something on that scale something small. Plus with MLB's big Twitter push this is likely in the game at their request.
Yeah, I get you. I know there was commentary about disliking social media and not liking it's invasion in the game, but it's a thread on the feature, so I viewed that less as complaints and more as just on-topic commentary since it was mostly just giving their rationale for not digging it. You're right though. For those who are that upset about it's inclusion simply due to the social media aspect (or that it was included at all), the "don't like it, don't use it" concept definitely applies. My only point in that regard was that for someone disappointed about unmet expectations, that concept doesn't fit so well.

And I'm not advocating an "either/or" mentality (I understand the differences in development focuses and that it's a process to add anything), I was simply stating what I feel the primary issue seems to be. I think the expectation or hope (when it was listed in the fact sheet) was that it would be a franchise feature, which is why it's brought up in that context.

Like I said, when the game is out (hell, probably by the time the next big blog topic is out) this will become less of a hot-topic. Right now, it's a recent update about the Twitter feature, so we're just getting various thoughts on it (in way more depth than it probably warrants...lol).

If you don't want to use it, just don't look at it or skip by it in the player card. If you don't like it, it really doesn't affect you to just skip by it. This reminds me of the old MVP days when people complained that Franchise had the OPTION to play in different stadiums. People would really get upset on forums saying it was unrealistic to allow people to play in anything but the home stadium and it should not be allowed. As if someone else should get a say what YOU do with YOUR franchise. Same here, it is just an OPTION, even if it can not be turned off it can be completely ignored by skipping past it. If you do not like it and do not want to use it, it does not affect you at all.
It is true that it can be ignored, but people who don't want to see it can't just unsee it. There will be an extra panel that they need to skip to get to whatever panel they want. I'm more curious about the feature than anything. Its in the game, that is done. I'm just curious as to how it will work now.

One thing I am still confuses me about this feature though. Has it been said if the tweets will be vetted at all? Or will it just be a stream from their feed?

Will it be all tweets by the players' twitter handles? There is a lot of useless stuff posted by a lot of players. I don't want to see retweets at all for example.

Plus there are things like this...

A bit odd to see in the game if this was posted during the season by a player.

Goodonya, I didn't think about that.

My only real rebuttal to the inclusion is that everyone is pushing it so much and society, in general, are lemmings. I'm sick of the corporate marketing conglomerate "Like us on Facebook!" crap and celebrity gossip...not to mention the fools whose nose is always in their phone when they shouldn't be just so your data can be gathered, mined, and sold later. Like someone else pointed out, it is just another way to put your brand out there.

Here, in the US, we do not realize the value of our personal information whereas it is looked at as an inalienable right in Europe. As a matter of fact, either England or the EU (I don't recall which) is considering requiring opt-outs so your data could not be gathered, mined, and sold later. The US is looking out for corporate interests instead of our own and have been sending lobbyists to try and stop it from happening.

Doesn't make sense but I guess it's cool.

Is there any way to disable this?
The actual tweets are in real-time. They update as they are posted. What they mean by twitter handles being updated weekly, is that if someone changes their @twittername or a player starts a twitter account, they will attach that account to the player in the roster. Btw, this is the same for player pics after trades/callups.

As for disabling, no way to do that, but you could play the game for a year and not have to see it. The main feature is in the front end of the game, like the MLB.com news. On the player cards, its the last tab, so just don't press L1/R1 that fifth time.

Srry to bump, but are the feeds really not gonna be updated until each roster update? Cause that basically defeats the point of twitter feeds. Won't really be good reading a guys tweet about a game that happened a week ago. I thought this would be updated with real time, but guess not?

Read again. The feeds are live, only the handles are updated through roster updates.

So if LoMo tweets something, that's updated immediately. But if LoMo closes that Twitter account and creates a completely new one, it will be a few weeks before that new account is added, and it will be added via a roster update.

But when I go to the MLB on Twitter page, the most recent tweets are from March 3rd, so what am I doing wrong to not get the updates? I'm signed in on PSN as well...
