I've played several games now on All Pro and slow speed, no other adjustments, to me it doesn't feel much different than any of the other Madden games this generation, which is a bad thing, I used to like Madden on the PS2, but this generation seems to have gone backwards. I know this is no major thing for most players on here but what the heck ever happened to the great user profile system that was in the PS2 versions of Madden, in a sports game you would think the developers might think maybe users might want the win loss record kept against certain opponents off line and on line, just seems like the tech should be moving these types of games forwards not backwards. The greatly talked about infinity engine is certainly in the game, unfortunately, seems everyone gets thrown around like weightless ragdolls, absolutlely unreal. I was really excited for this game this year but nevermind. I don't have much more to say other than I have not enjoyed a Madden game this generation of systems and this one has not changed that. Lucky that that other football game from years ago is backwards compatable and still in my collection.

But think about that for a second.....NFL2k5 is 8/9 years old...madden should be making it look like Tecmo Bowl two years AGO. In fact, Madden is just NOW - with a supposed real-time physics engine - displaying tackling like NFL2k5 had...again...8/9 years ago.....without RTP....and Madden STILL doesn't play as good. APK2k8( or NFL2k13 with the awesome RateSports.net Mod) is even better. I mean....that is just INSANE when you think about it. Absolutely INSANE. But I give credit to Tiburon, they're trying and I applaud the effort. I just don't see enough to warrant my $60.

I wanted to play five or six games before I gave impressions, and I'm glad I did. I feel way differently about the game now then I did when I first played it. So anywhere, here it goes.

The Ugly:
  • CPU playcalling and time management. There were multiple instances at the end of the game where the CPU was in dire need of a few passes to get themselves back in the game, so what do they do? They run the ball, and waste the clock. I'm aware this happens every once in a while, but it has happened way to often in this demo.
  • Post-play activity. I have a love/hate thing going on with the post-play physics, because I find them hilarious and its nice to see how sensitive the engine really is. But I image this will totally suck the immersion out of a regular game.

The Bad:
  • The RTP engine was not quite as polished as I hoped it would be. But more on this later.
  • Commentary is still a little whacky. For instance, the CPU spiked the ball and Simms went on to complain about how the defense should have taken advantage of the bad throw and made an interception.

The Good:
  • The physics engine adds a certain unpredictability to the game, which is much appreciated. I like NCAA this year, but the gameplay is still a little stale and predictable. This is definitely not the case with Madden.
  • The game looks beautiful. I swear, the field in which they play on makes all the difference. Where Madden looks bright (and admittedly, a little arcadish) and beautiful, NCAA looks dull and washed out.
  • The commentary. Holy crap, I was expecting an upgrade, but not this kind of jump. This along with the pre-game stuff was awesome.
  • Madden '13 finally feels like EA made a decision to go ahead and push the game out of its comfort zone. Sure, its not perfect, but I love that its different from the same game we've all been playing for years now.

I'll remain hopeful that some of my problems with the game are fixed in the retail version.

The "physics" were more annoying than anything else. I definitely saw the bumper car thing a lot have already mentioned early and often. Marshawn Lynch was constantly bouncing off defender like a pinball as opposed to looking anything like a tackle. Also caused for any post-play scene to look ridiculous as the players struggled, jerked, and bent unrealistically after getting tangled up in odd ways with other players.

Didn't really feel at any point that I was playing something notably improved from last season. More plays might help that, I'll keep more of an eye out for better DB play, etc.

I'm sure the commentary was limited for the demo, but it was still odd to start Russel Wilson and have the commentators mention how much experience he has under his belt.

So I'm still in the air about this thing, if CC is a nice step up from last year's disaster of a franchise mode, I'll be won over, if not, it'll be another pre-Christmas trade in.

What did the AI do specifically that was moronic when you bumped your OLine sliders?

Do you guys feel that the pass rush has been improved from last year's "DTs only" thing?

I'd like a more researched opinion from someone who paid more attention, but it seemed like DEs were more involved. Definitely had a few plays where Bruce Irvin was right in RG3's face before a pass when I plugged him in on Nickel packages.

WOW, i cant believe what just happened! I'm playing as the 49ers and I threw an out route to vernon davis, the guy tackled Davis... but Davis was laying on top of the defender, his knees never hit the ground, and he lifted himself up and ran a good 5 yards before he was tackled. I wish this demo had instant replay!

The player models look terrible. I watched the new features video and Larry Fitzgerald is literally a square shape wtf man.

It pisses me off how soo many open passes are dropped...

Next month will mark 10 years since I first became a member of this site, and without fail, for the past 10 years, I have seen Madden games met with outgoing enthusiasm initially only for that enthusiasm to turn into bitterness and resentment shortly afterwards. To be honest, it saddens me how predictable the cycle is.

I credit OS for expanding my expectations on sports games. Before I joined this site, I was what you consider a casual gamer. I was an avid video gamer, but I didn't play for the same experiences that I do now. I loved sports, but when it came to sports video games, I didn't care for the nuanced experience. As long as the game had accurate rosters and didn't feature over-the-top gameplay, I was happy. However, interacting in these forums over the years has made me appreciate when games try their best to replicate their respective sport in true-to-life fashion. And it goes beyond producing accurate stats; player movement and contact has to be realistic as well. Unfortunately, even with the Infinity Engine, Madden still drops the ball in this aspect in my opinion.

One of the first things I look for when I'm controlling a player in a game is weight and momentum. When a game lacks this, it kills any immersion I could have experienced almost instantly. The zigzag running has been rampant in this series throughout this entire generation, and when a game fails to address this fundamental issue, every other improvement is nullified to me. The same goes OL/DL interaction.

The bottomline is, when I play this demo, I don't feel like I'm playing a AAA sports title. For this to be one of the premiere franchises in EA Sports' history, the lack of effort and polish put into this title is unbelievable. Again, this is just my opinion. For those who enjoy the game, more power to you. I, on the other hand, will be passing on another Madden title yet again. If the football bug bites me this season, I'll just pop in my copy of APF 2K8, which I feel gives a way more authentic on-the-field experience than a game which had five years to make the necessary improvements to compete.

Another part that is equally frustration figuring out who is to blame. Do I blame EA Tiburon for continuing to make what I feel are lackluster games, or do I blame EA Sports as the publisher? I look at the titles EA Tiburon made during the Xbox/PS2 era and compare them to this current era. I know it's beating a dead horse mentioning this, but why is that the games of yesteryear are more polished than the games of now? What has changed in those seven years? And to add to the "suspense," I won't even answer my own question...

Seems like they completely overhyped the infinity engine. I just saw Patrick Willis bounce straight off Ahmad Bradshaw.

Yeah, some things are just completely bad.. but I've seen some impressive things as well. They just need to fine tune it.

This new physics engine is awesome, definitely a huge step in the right direction. For instance, Frank gore ran a blast at the 5 yard line...got lit up when he hit the hole, his right leg bent backward in an awkward angle, and got injured. That little thing like that I love, it looked like a torn acl and he actually got injured in the game. Hope that makes sense...

Im fairly positive this is the first positive thing I've said about an ea football game in 5 years. I love the new engine, its a great building block

Well after many games played with this demo...one thing that sticks out from the last 5-6 years of playing madden..especially the demo's each year. I keep wanting to come back for more and play more of the demo...this has not ever happened to me in these last 5-6 years with madden demo's...that obviously says a lot about how much better this game is and most importantly how damn fun it is to play.

I was and am a 2k fan..always have been...my heart was crushed when 2k5 would be the last game from 2k...ever since than i have had trouble each year with madden trying to like the game so much but never could...heck i even prayed that EAsports would finally make a fun playing NFL football game..seriously no lie..i actually prayed for it and i must say my prayers have been answered!!.

I am having a blast with the demo. I keep seeing new things each time i play the game that amazes me and makes me say "WOW"! Obviously there are things quirky with this game..bugs here and there..the infinity engine doing some strange things but for some reason..i can "easily" overlook these things because the game is still fun. It's sorta like how NFL 2k5 was..while it had its quirky bugs and did some odd things here and there...i loved the game because it was "fun" and "exciting" to play...this is the exact way Madden 13 is for me.

Some of you guys writing this game off are seriously dissecting this game...if you dissect a videogame..YOU WILL FIND things that are wrong or buggy and if that is all your looking for...you will NEVER be able to fully enjoy a game for its good aspects. I feel bad for those that are not happy with this game because of its bugs and quirky things it does on occasion because the positives of this game far outweigh the negative things.

I just keep wanting to come back for more and while some games are not as close and exciting as others...the majority of my games after some slider tweaking,etc..have been a blast to play.

One thing i must say is that i do not care what anyone says...but having the players react with emotion after good and bad plays..side line cut scenes...excitment in players after scoring a TD, crowds reacting to good and bad plays and commentary that actually feels good to my ears really have done wonders for Madden and this is why i have always said in these forums for the 10 years i been here at Operation Sports is that these non-gameplay elements can actually make or break a sports videogame...EA has finally seen the light and now are on the right track with its presentation and atmosphere... i thank you EA for putting in effort this year in madden. Most of us finally will have a NFL Football game that will be "fun" to play. Sure it may not get everything right...the X's & O's may not be perfect or far from perfect but at the end of the day...the fun and excitement will still be there while playing this game and to me and a lot of us..that is all that matters when it comes to enjoying videogames.

DEVELOPERS: You guys gotta keep going at the presentation, cut scenes, pregame, half time and post game stuff some more...you got the foundation finally there..now build upon it with great zeal and enthusiasm ..and this game will only get more fun and exciting.

I still think that "after TD bench" cut scene needs to be mixed up with other cut scenes. I am talking about after the TD..the player that scores the TD is sitting on the bench and players walk by and pat him on the back..i know you are using different camera angles so that is good but you guys cant keep showing that same cut scene after every TD...you gotta replace it some times with a whole different cut scene...other than that..the over all cut scenes are great and are varied nicely...which you guys did well besides that one bench cut scene...other than that the cut scenes look good..i would still like more and hopefully in the full final retail build we will have even more..but i like what i see as-is.

Another problem: The replays start too far into the play.. i think the replay's need to start a bit earlier in the play because some nice moves and jukes i want to seeing the replay are not in the replay because the replay starts after the jukes and nice moves..that is a problem that really should be fixed, guys.

The half time show...NEEDS something more as well!!! I mean seriously...time constraint is no excuse for this half time show we got...just toss up some in depth stat's or something, show big plays from the first half, show players in the locker room being talked to by the coaching staff...have a quick run down of around the league scores,etc...that kind of improvement does not require a whole lot of time and effort. I really would want some commentary audio in there..or a real life type half time show showing guys at the studio's going over scores from other games, big plays from the game,etc...just something to fill us in and give us a few minutes break to sit back and watch...that would bring a huge amount of atmosphere to Madden.

Overall its a fun game and i cant complain and sit here and bash EA for their efforts this year. I am too much of a humbled man to do such a thing because i appreciate their efforts this year and the amount of improvement outweighs the negatives by a far margin. Those that sit here and bash the game.. are you that selfish of a man to do such a thing? Or are you just a spoiled brat that cant appreciate effort and improvement when given? It baffles me to see people say this game sucks, or say its the same old madden,etc...Madden 13 is nothing and i mean NOTHING like any past madden to date when we add up all the improvements done this year.

Oh one more thing..two things that "wow'd" me.

I was playing the Giants and the CPU controlled 49er's tossed a pass for about 25 yards and the receiver dove in mid air sideways "not upwards" to catch the ball and he landed on his stomach and slid some yards in mid field on the grass..i just thought that looked TOTALLY AMAZING!!

Another moment in the same game..i "Giants" were up by 7 points and the 49er's were on my 15 yard line few minutes left in the game and Smith tossed the ball into the corner of the end zone and my defensive back broke the tip toe corner catch / pass and after breaking up the pass..he was crossing his arms over and over like "incomplete pass baby!!" and than started pumping his arm up in the air and the crowd was at first ROARING because they thought it was touchdown but than went "ohhhhhhhhhh" after my defender broke up the pass.... AWESOME STUFF!!!!

Can someone helps me out??? I've been playing on All Madden and it seems like I only get 2 seconds to throw the ball every time and I'm using the niners which have a very good offensive line. I know the Giants have a great defensive line but they shouldn't get there every passing play.
Another problem is dropped passes and the computer ALWAYS breaking tackles. Can someone tell me if its the difficulty or am I just rusty? Haven't played a football game in a month....

Yes...the first time i played the demo..after two plays i went into options switched to "very slow" and stayed there for a while..went back to normal speed and its sooooooo much better on "very slow" speed in my honest opinion. If any of you guys do not like the game..try it on very slow speed..its a night and day difference for me..something that needs to be mentioned to everyone in the madden forum...heck making a thread on the speed of madden 13 should be made noting that "slow" or "very slow" is the way to go with M13.
