I don't see how anyone could prefer the previous tackling to this. It may not be true physics but it looks much better. So many new tackles.

The more I play, the more I appreciate the commentary. Not because it's particularly great, but because it's no longer bad and sometimes good. Several timers it's faded into the background (i.e. I ignored it), which is a good sign for me, since it used to be distracting in 12. Audio as a whole is positive for me...not saying it's "there" but it's significantly better than 12 IMO.

On a separate note, I'm really hoping that the weird replays, reduced/limited camera cuts, and sparse overlays are due to this being a demo. Otherwise, I can't find a single plausible reason for it not being on par with 12 (I could make a case for why it should be better, but I think expecting at least the standard of 12 is more than reasonable).

Also, in the same vein, I hope some of the animation issues (the speeding up for many tackles and contact animations, the inconsistency of signature throwing, etc) are demo related as well.

Most of the rest of my issues are related to problems we knew weren't really addressed, so looking at ONLY what was added and can get time with in the demo, I'd sway positive so far.

How many offensive plays is everyone getting on default settings? It seems like I'm not getting as many plays this year. Online last year I could usually get close to 40 plays a game for ranked matches.

hm. is it just me or is juking very stiff, robotic, and slow?

specifically, the highlight stick juke, left and right.

Ive gotten to play a few games now, and I must say Im very impressed.

- Love the new passing, its a nice addition, just like in NCAA
- Loving the infinity engine. Frustrating at times as I try and run between the tackles and trip over my linemen, but hey, I just have to run smarter. Some of the tackles look a little too rag doll like... but its better than a one on one tackle animation that cant be broken and all other players just animate around them. Hopefully they can tune it
- All the NCAA improvements that are in here, just make this game so much more fun to play
- The visuals are outstanding IMO. With one exception that I'll touch on later. Grass looks great, 1000 times better than the mess of grass in NCAA. Helmets look great, uniforms, and stadiums. Wish they could improve the sideline stuff, but... not that big of a deal.
- Sound... the sound is much better too IMO. Crowd sounds good. Commentary is a great chance of pace. Still the odd hiccup here and there where you may question a statement, but nowhere near as awful as gus and collinsworth.

My only big complaint right now is the lighting. Playing the Seattle/Washington game, it seems to dark. Players all look like theyre wearing black jerseys it seems. Hope there's something they can do to tune that. Hope its been done for the release already, or I hope they can patch it, because its tough to tell who is who sometimes.

Other than that, so far so good IMO.

ive had matt flynn burn me deep when I made a mistake. ive had one of the most amazing 1 handed grabs ala tony moeaki from 2010 by randy moss. sure there are guys stumbling over each other, but this game is a lot more fun that in year's past.

slow, speed thres at 25, and sliders in to turn down fumbles and interceptions, auto strafe/sprint off, and im having a blast with this game.

the passing game is so incredible now. I had a short pass to the flats and saw the DB creeping, and he did indeed try to jump it, and due to the total control I was able to throw this line drive to the outside that I wouldnt have before, and it barely made it in. seeing a lot of small things like this that really change the game for the good.

Good game. And for once, I feel like the PS3 didn't get shafted because it really does look great all of the time. The sound is a nice improvement, too. You can finally hear the crowd getting into the game. I like this.

Edit:

I thought the lighting of the Redskins game was fantastic. I liked how I couldn't really tell who was who on a kick return because it was dark. Not sure if that would really be the case at 1 PM. But it did look pretty sweet.

After playing 4 games on ps3 here are some thoughts...

Good
Commentary is so much better. Fluid and mostly relevant.
Running is def smoother and much more responsive.
Passing feels natural. Usually throws the ball the way I want it to.
Lighting is excellent.
Feels like a new game
Receivers are generally smarter.

Bad
Some really braindead AI. Horrible clock management.
Wonky cutscenes. Had DeAngelo Hall practicing game winning kicks.
We need late hits after the whistle. The new engine certaintly allows for it and it happens often.
If you sort a category in stats it jumps back to the first stat column every time. Def annoying.

Overall its still a buy and I think I will be satisfied.

i thought it was my tv/xbox setting i guess not though... yea the lighting needs a touch up on that stadium or maybe it just a lighting glitch in the demo for that game because the giants san fran game looks fine....it just in the standard camera play angle that it seems too dark

i hope they included that zoom camera in the retail version to show off the much improved graphics and overall lighting...i would even like to have the ZOOM camear angle from madden 12 in this year as well the more cameras the BETTER

I agree. I was playing the Giants vs 49ers game and I was up 14-10 in the 4th quarter with :59 seconds to go and the 49ers ran the ball three times (including on their last play of the game). Everything else was great, but THAT needs to be fixed asap.

I dunno if I'm just heavily into NCAA or what but I can't get into this game on the defensive side of the ball ;/

I saw no issues with the lighting in my game between Redskins -Seahawks .

The only problem I have with the demo is the commentary. I love how the intro skit is put together in the booth, but I would rather not have that and have a more in depth HT show and more enthusiasm when big plays happen. I just finished up a great OT game running with the G-Men vs the 9'ers... I was down by a TD with 7 seconds on the clock as I connect with Nicks in stride to tie the game as time expired and I tell you the commentating on that play totally killed my buzz. They simply just stated that it is now a tie game... Then I hit a game winning 48 yd. FG, still absolutely no energy in the final call of the game. Very lackluster to be polite, other than that I love the way the game plays out. A solid slider set will have this game in my tray for a long long time lol

Man I'm glad I played the demo. The graphics are amazing, but the one word I'd use to describe the gameplay; weightless. When I'm controlling a guy on defense it seems like hes floating in the air. Until this game gets a true foot planting, weight, and momentum engine I won't be purchasing. Here's to hoping for madden 14.

THE BEST MADDEN TO DATE POINT BLANK PERIOD, END OF DISCUSSION...

# 636 ajk49er @ 08/14/12 09:15 PM
the tackling is just incredible, I really wish it showed assisted tackles in the stats, because I am in love with the new tackle animations, catch animations etc. that with the new commentary and its like a new game all together. reaally think EA deserves some credit here, as an avid player of all the older games, I wont be playing apf anymore with this game around. its an absolute joy to play.

there are some things for next year, I get that. putting editing back in, all that good stuff. maybe adding commentary to later seasons of CC etc. but for now, this is just a massive improvement, sound is awesome, crowd rocks. Its a really good game, I havent been this excited for a madden release since maybe 05.

I dont know what yu guys are seeing...Maybe bc yu guys are playing it on X-Box lol But for the PS3 this is the best Madden game I have ever played!!! The RTP are great... I had two guys go for a pick and Brandon Meriweather picks off the pass and wen he came down he landed on D.Hall's shoulders... I was like "Wooow"... In the same game i was down by 3 in the 4thq with mayb like 37 seconds left on 4th down...Wen I couldn't find a open WR I took off wit RGIII and my RB who didn't see me take off got in my way and we ran into each other lol So Real...Idk what some of these guys are seeing but RTP to me is like none other

# 639 HARTSTOPPER @ 08/14/12 09:16 PM
