I thought it was exactly the same as '12, but with studio updates and a new ticker. I went out and bought '12 used today and decided to skip this year's NCAA Football. I'm really sick of buying the same game for $60 each year and refuse to do it again. I very well may do the same with Madden, depending on what I think of the demo.

I'm one of those dudes who has bought both games new every year since Madden and Bill Walsh College Football started.

Played it a bit more.. still feels like NCAA 12 or 12.5.

Reece Davis sounds meh. It almost never sounds natural, and I cringe on some of the stuff it is spliced together so badly.

The new passing is different, but it isn't a gamechanger maybe with the Madden QB ratings it would be.

Super linebackers and psychic dbs aren't around as often anymore, but that is hardly enough for me to spend money on.

The stadium sounds louder, but the atmosphere is still meh.

Not too impressed, personally and Heisman mode just makes me angry every time I think about it when compared to what Madden got.

I agree that ratings are grossly inflated and have been trending that way for a while, but it may be a bit of a blessing in some ways. It'll open up online a little bit since there are more teams that people will play rated up at the top.

For dynasty I'll be using named/rerated rosters anyway so that isn't so bad.

Yes I'd rather have more differentiation and accuracy in ratings (as in no team above about a 90 out of box) but there are a few positives.

This demo so far runs a lot smoother than 12 IMO. And I guess I'm in the minority, but I am still seeing some super LB's. I first saw them while playing Bama vs LSU so I thought "Ok maybe if I play K State and Baylor I won't see them as often." Well I still saw some. I was Baylor and my slot receiver was running a post down the field. Before I snapped the ball I saw a LB was covering him so I thought he could get open. The D called man coverage and the LB ran stride for stride with the WR the whole time but the WR had a little separation coming off his break from the post route. I led the receiver when I threw it and it looked like there was no way the LB could even touch it. It looked like the only person that was gonna catch it was my WR. Guessed wrong. The LB gets a magical boost and picks the ball off without even turning his head to see where the ball was.

Besides the common CPU option mishap and the super LB's, this game really isn't that bad. Yes the QB's completion % needs to be fixed and maybe Rece's voice, but this isn't too bad. There will never be a perfect game that comes out so we have to sometimes live with what we have.

By the way, I can't see the ESPN ticker on the very bottom when I play the demo. Anyone else have this problem?

A couple of things i noticed after a few games

Line play didnt look better but it seemed better, i did not see a ton of pancakes. also when Olinemen get beat on a pass rush they actually make an attempt to get back in the play which makes moving in the pocket more realistic

Its very cool to see WRs waving their hands for the ball when they are open during a scramble

Passing seems a bit too easy, this might be because i was using RG3 and Zack Mettenburger, but they could use a bit more inaccuracy.

Running seemed pretty good but i didnt run much to test out the passing game. AI running seems vastly improved.

The bullet time mechanic will take some getting used to. On several occasions during a pass i threw into coverage because i didnt fully assess how much space my WR had for real time movement.

Pulling gaurds are a little better but it may be placebo affect.

Momentum is slighty present which is great.

One really cool thing i noticed in Heisman mode is that coaches will pull back on your "trust" if you screw up. I threw a redzone TD and after that i was not allowed to pick any other plays except the ones given to me. Cool.

Overall, i am definitely buying day one.

To be honest, this demo is the game we should have had with ncaa 12. I did like some aspects of the demo, it played smoother, overall it just felt a little more polished then last year. But it just felt like I was playing a game that is outdated. The engine is at its limit, the presentation is pathetic for a game made in 2012. No highlights, same intros same monotone commentary. Theyre touting better passing mechanics when nfl 2k5 had maximum passing. This game is sorely lacking. Is it worth getting even at $45? No. I saw ncaa12 for $16 on amazon, I think someone would be better off getting 12. I just didnt see enough there to give away money. Most people will get bored with it quickly or when madden comes out.

Pros: espn ticker is nice
the in studio updates are nice
smoother gameplay

Cons: Nothing really groundbreaking or new
Rece Davis
still has some psy db's
commentary
boring

I played a few games last night and I must be playing a different demo than the last 7 pages of people here have been. It MOST DEFINITELY DOES NOT play like NCAA '12 did imo. It might look similar, but it's not the same game. The DEMO is more polished, the players feel like they actually have weight to them and seem smarter on the field. I had a broken HB Draw last night where the hole closed up, I turned to the other side of the field, jumped over a fallen defender, actually had a WR block for me, then ran it 15 yards into the endzone. The play actually made me say "wow, that was sweet" out loud. That didn't happen in '12. If a hole closed up on a Draw, then there were 5 defenders in the backfield ready to destroy you.

It doesn't feel like NCAA 12.5 to me, not even 12.75 because I don't think even 5 patches could have gotten 12 to play like this. There are just too many different things going on that make it feel like an entirely new game. I'm going to have a ton of fun playing it this year.

YESSSSS!!! I CAN FINALLY THROW OVER TOP OF THE LINEBACKERS AND IN FRONT OF THE SAFETIES!!

The passing game is a thing of beauty now with these new trajectories. I feel like Joe Montana chilling back in the pocket with my fillet knife carving up the defense!

HB SCREENS ARE FINALLY RAN PROPERLY!!! You actully hit the RB in stride!

The studio updates are cool but get old pretty quick due to Reece Davis sounding like well exactly like he's just reading lines off paper. Doesn't feel alive at all.

Bottom line ticker is GREAT!! Especially since got the priority score alerts and upset alerts as well! This will come in handy when it gets late in the season when conferance championship bids are on the line.

Heisman Challange showed me that playing with a 100 rated player is fun for a minute but gets old real quick at least on the difficulty that comes with the demo. I was 28 of 40 for 585 3td and 2 picks with RGIII.

Spread Option seems to still broken for the CPU. I was playing against Oregon but didn't feel like they were the DUCKS. Maybe it was just the difficulty level.

Overall I really liked the demo. I think once you find a good slider set and the roster makers due their thing this game will be a BEAST!

# 491 BruceAlmighty @ 06/06/12 04:02 PM
The game is the exact same gameplay wise outside of the passing, which is actually really good.

Sitting this one out. I'll pick up Madden new instead, and buy NCAA used. No money for a half effort, EA.

# 492 BenGerman @ 06/06/12 04:02 PM
With sliders, I think the CPU is going to be a lot more competitive than usual. I've already seen more aggressive defense, less dropped INT's, decent pass rush, and some decent option play that will only get better as we change the sliders.

All of this without taking one snap of Madden. Impressive.

Sorry for posting this again, but my ESPN bottom-line hasn't been showing up. I have been playing the dynasty games. Anyone know what's going on?

# 496 Kaiser Wilhelm @ 06/06/12 04:42 PM
It plays nice. The catching looks greatly improved. Here is to hoping that the experience does not become greatly decreased on higher difficulties as is the norm for EA Football games.

# 497 bartolet7 @ 06/06/12 04:43 PM
Cripes, another year of playing with a pumpkin-sized football. How hard can it be to make the thing proportionally correct?

I like the addition of dynasty studio updates but what doesn't make sense to me is that if EA is trying to replicate a true TV broadcast presentation (ESPN wipes/splashes, studio updates, sideline reports, etc.), then why do we still have those horrid replay camera angles? I've never seen a replay IRL that spins 360's around the ball carrier as he's running down the field. I just don't get why we can't have real broadcast-type camera angles for replays. Or the ability to customize them.

Quick Observations
  • Lighting in the LSU-Bama Game is awful
  • Game is much more fluid
  • You can actually run players over now
  • Blocking needs to get better (Too much stalemating)
  • Commentary is basically the same
  • Intro is still pretty awkward
  • I'm Tired of the ultra zoomed in replays
  • They need to get rid of that awful defense chant/crowd needs to be louder on defense
  • New passing trajectories are nice
  • Game plays a little faster
  • Motion Blur is overdone on cutscenes and replays
  • Too many interceptions. as in QB's throwing to well covered recievers.
  • New catch animations are great.

One other thing, when the CPU receiver is running a drag route and I am rushing the passer with the DL. When I try to switch players, sometimes I am switched to the CB in man coverage of course taking him out of the play and leaving the WR uncovered. Pretty annoying.

Also, curl route on 3rd down is money. Sometimes a little too easy. DB's should be protecting the first down line in that situation.

Obviously I have my complaints, but the game is definitely better than '12.

How is the CPU option? To me this was the biggest disappointment last year--- I realize it may be hard to judge based on fact it is varsity level w/o sliders--But... anyone see any sign of hope from the demo thus far?

thanks !!

After about ten games, I feel pretty confident in releasing some thoughts, so here it goes...

Pros:
  • The Studio Updates. Were they a little overwhelming in the demo? Yes. But even in this hypothetical dynasty matchup, I couldn't help but become immersed in the results of my oppents and rivals. Reece Davis sounds like each individual word was cut and pasted into weird sentences, but more on that later.
  • The ESPN Bottom Line. For the very same reasons as the Studio Update, I can just see myself getting totally lost in the scores around college football. I could see so many scenarios where this will be a huge addition.
  • The passing game. Incredible. I don't know what I can say that hasn't already been said, but in my 10 games thus far, I've seen some really great things. Sideline passes, passes between the LB's and Safeties, jump balls, pretty much everything. Also, the new dropbacks looked cool, as well as the QB Evade which provided some very exciting plays.
  • The juke move looks great. I'm glad this seems fixed.
  • As everyone has already said, the crowd sounds great. The swells are just about perfect, and I loved hearing Ah's when I'd pick one off, or a roar when the opposing team would take it in for a TD. Theres one more thing that I'll talk about later on as well.
  • Screen passes seem to work. About time!
  • One thing I loved seeing was when I was being blitzed, and I'd try to fire the ball off early, it would almost always land with a thud over the WR's head. Either because it was a bad throw under pressure, or the WR/CB just wasn't looking. I did have one play (I couldn't get my phone out fast enough to record it) where Alabama got instant pressure on my QB, so I lobbed it to a TE crossing over the middle. It went right over his head as he ran he route, and went right into the safety's hands for a INT.
  • A couple times (and by a couple, I mean 4 or 5) the CPU would get pressure on a punt of a FG. It looked as if they could have blocked it if they were just there a split second earlier. Anyway EA can tune this a little bit? Even just a blocked kick once every 5-6 games would be beautiful.
  • CPU Playcalling. Wow! What an improvement. In my last game against Bama, they pounded the ball up the middle over and over again with success. When they threw it, it was typically PA or a quick slants play. Nothing too risky. Also worthy of note, I only recognized five total 4 Vertical calls by the CPU.
  • Some of the catch animations were amazing, particularly in the endzone or on the sideline.

Cons:
  • Entrances still stale. I played the LSU-Bama matchup 4 times, and each time the entrance was exactly the same. No different camera angles or anything.
  • Speaking of which, the pre-game/post-game is pretty terrible. When the game is over, I should hear some kind of analysis and see some kind of reaction other than the generic jumping up and down of the winning team. Pre-game is a little better, but why not try and add more than just the one little clip?
  • Reece Davis sounds horrendous. For now, I'll just hope it was an early build or something.
  • The CPU QB still doesn't react like they should. When they are being blitzed, they just stand there and take the sack. Rarely do you see any kind of horizontal movement.
  • The Gameplay is just stale. With NCAA this year, they fixed just about all of the major grievances I had with this game. But it still feels the same, and even looks the same for the most part. At least we know this is the last year of this kind of gameplay, for better or worse, I'm glad this is the last year the game will play like this.

All in all, I'm leaning towards re-pre-ordering this. For once, it feels enough like college football that I just may be able to enjoy a dynasty.
