For the first time in franchise history, familiar faces are now on the field in NCAA Football 13, where fans can build a national powerhouse by placing one of 10 former Heisman Trophy winners on the team of their choice for the upcoming NCAA season. Under center, in the backfield, or split wide, utilize a Legend’s skill set in the quest to win the Heisman Trophy. Video interviews with each Heisman Trophy winner will be unlocked throughout the season, detailing the achievements of their glory days. In addition, fans can truly test themselves by matching their Heisman Legend’s historical performance in one season, which will not only win the Heisman Trophy, but also unlock each player in Road to Glory.

Heisman Legends include:
  • Marcus Allen– 1981 Heisman Trophy recipient, University of Southern California
  • Doug Flutie– 1984 Heisman Trophy recipient, Boston College
  • Eddie George– 1995 Heisman Trophy recipient, Ohio State University
  • Robert Griffin III– 2011 Heisman Trophy recipient, Baylor University
  • Desmond Howard– 1991 Heisman Trophy recipient, University of Michigan
  • Carson Palmer– 2002 Heisman Trophy recipient, University of Southern California
  • Barry Sanders– 1988 Heisman Trophy recipient, Oklahoma State University
  • Charlie Ward– 1993 Heisman Trophy recipient, Florida State University
  • Andre Ware– 1989 Heisman Trophy recipient, University of Houston
  • Herschel Walker– 1982 Heisman Trophy recipient, University of Georgia
The following DLC Heisman Legends are also available:
  • * Tim Brown – 1987 Heisman Trophy recipient, Notre Dame
  • * Archie Griffin – 1974 and 1975 Heisman Trophy recipient, Ohio State University
  • * Jim Plunkett – 1970 Heisman Trophy recipient, Stanford University
  • ** Mark Ingram – 2009 Heisman Trophy recipient, University of Alabama
  • ** Matt Leinart – 2004 Heisman Trophy recipient, University of Southern California
  • ** Tim Tebow – 2007 Heisman Trophy recipient, University of Florida
* Available through the NCAA Football 13 demo download.

** Available through NCAA Football 13 pre-order from GameStop.

REACTION TIME

The new Reaction Time feature allows players to experience what it’s like on the field as a true Heisman Trophy-caliber athlete. Reaction Time literally slows down the action, allowing users to look for openings in defenses and perform skill moves to get into the open field, before smoothly transitioning back to regular speed. Gameplay has also been enhanced to include special teams and an updated playcall system.

Discuss.

You can tell that attention to detail was adhered to in NBA2k.

What I'm seeing here is nothing special at all. Where's the retro equipment, where's the improved player movement (atrocious turntable movement is still there) so that Barry Sanders can shake defenders out of their shoes just like he did in real life? Nowhere to be found. The absolute only thing thats going to be unique about these players are their faces my man. Come on now.

I know you're a fanatic about attention to detail also man. You're really giving them a pass on this ****?

This team puts resources in the completely WRONG places. This is obvious at this point in time. Sheesh, how many story modes are you going to have. You already have RTG.....You have dynasty mode....now you're putting in Heisman mode? Are they serious? Thats why each mode is half done, the devs attention is scattered all over the friggin place!!!

You even heard it multiple times throughout the broadcast, "we tweaked play call logic so they'll run the ball more for Barry Sanders", WHAT??!! So all of these years you refused to tweak logic within dynasty mode but all of a sudden your fixing things for Heisman mode? The logic and A.I. have been needing an upgrade since this game hit current generation!! I'll also bet money that its not even fully done correctly. Know why, because the other half of the team is somewhere working on dynasty mode, and the other guys are scattered somewhere working on RTG.

Merge that **** into one dynasty/story mode and focus your resources on that. I don't know man, I don't think these guys are very adept at managing their manpower brother. This new mode is just unnecessary, there's NO WAY around that.

Please read this post EA.

Features like this....I can't speak for all NCAA gamers, but is/was there really a community or group of people that were calling for this feature/mode? If so, is this really the way that that group wanted it to be done? Here take (X) player with ratings over 100 and add him to your team, and go nuts.

I just don't understand how this idea made it out of their initial meeting when resources, budget and man-power were divided. It's asinine to me that we have this mode, taking up resources yet we still can't have 85 man rosters, proper pass protections, WR/DB interactions. Penalties. Its like EA is saying "yeah we hear what you guys want improved, but how do you like this." Watching this I felt like I was in one of those Car Fax commercials.

"Show me the Car Fax."

"Here did you see our Car Fox."

That said I am a huge sim player and love dynasty mode but watching this made me say "Wow that's pretty cool actually." Seeing the former players in their interviews talking about games and what type of offense they would play in now a days was really great. I thought no way would I ever touch this mode before but it really made me think I wanna check this out.

Some of you will never be happy, sad sad life.
I promise you. Its no cooler than going to create player. Typing in "Barry Sanders". Giving him the appropriate equipment (its probably all there being EA is so behind the times), and giving him 99's in all relevant rb categories.

Mind blown.

Speak for yourself. I'm plenty happy with my life, thank you very much.

I'm also a consumer in the market for a good college football game and I'm not going to spare my thoughts on a product to avoid hurting someone's feelings.

that is because the mods are just as mad as the rest of us for obvious reasons ...havent seen much on here that has crossed the line just the truth of how people feel about the progress of this title ...a lot of people on here put a lot of time in with realistic suggestions to make this game better and more real and are ultimately ignored ...EA asks for our feedback and suggestions then proceeds to ignore their hardcore fan base for a casual gamer that doesnt know any better that eats up the "back of the box" features

This is something I wont touch at all and I doubt I will accidently click on it. I didnt play the Legends mode in NBA2k at all. Just not my thing. But, some may get enjoyment out of it.

Even though I play RTG alot, I dont plan on using the Reaction Time. I dont want a easier way to play. If I wanted that, I would play on Freshman.

The only thing I am waiting for before demo is June 4th and hopefully Teambuilder improvements. I liked Teambuilder because it was something to do before the game came out, but that is about it. As for RTG, The only 2 things I want is Custom Quarter Lengths and Better CPU Playcalling

This is what really concerns me. It is like they do not care at all what the gamers want. I've never once seen anyone ask for a Heisman Mode while many other things get left out year after year. I'm sure that some people will enjoy this, but I highly doubt anyone decides to buy the game because of it and no one would have complained if it had been left out.

I'd be shocked if it was even mentioned in any wishlist. Has anyone really played EA football over the last 20 years and thought to themselves "what this game needs is some bullet time right now"?

Also, has user offensive production been an issue at any point in the series to the point that people need artificial help to move the ball?

# 251 BA2929 @ 05/30/12 08:48 PM
This is nearly exactly the same as what EA did with the Legends in NHL 12, outside of the Bullet Time thing. I really enjoyed putting those guys in my Be A GM mode and destroying every team I played. Even used a few in the Be a Pro mode. So, I'll definitely give this a shot until rosters come out. Maybe I'll like it, maybe I won't play it more than a few days, but I'm not going to say it's horrible and a waste of disk space until I give it a shot.

Actually, I'll never say it's a waste of disk space even if I think it's the dumbest mode ever. Maybe someone else will love it to death. Hey, to each his own, right?

If that were the case they wouldn't be doing their jobs

The mods here do a great job tho, this site is very well policed most of the time
Are "you guys will never be happy" and "you guys have a sad life" not your thoughts?

Why can you express your like, but you don't want others to express their dislike?

I think that's a poor way to look at it, IMO. There will be people that will like everything. I'm sure someone liked ET the video game on Atari.

But shouldn't EA be trying to appeal to the greatest number of people?

If EA makes a feature that 100 people like, and dont implement a feature that 1,000 people would have liked, wouldn't the feature be a waste of space because it took away from what 900 more would have enjoyed?

Or maybe I'm misunderstanding your stance.

And it's still being very well policed right now. Most people are criticizing this feature, but they're not just bashing EA over the head or disrespecting anyone. Their giving honest feedback and there's nothing wrong with that

I don't think the Mods have a problem with guys using constructive criticism.

Now if you are on here calling developers names or just being out right rude then sure they probably will ban you.

The former players are cool......but honestly we already had the ability to create those players and put them in the same exact gear that EA is using.

I think most of the frustration in this thread is do to the lack of overall gameplay improvements by the series in general. As much as I myself love the Heisman players I would prefer a big step up in gameplay on the field as priority #1.

We can always create those players + 1000's more on our own time using the same tools EA uses to create them in the game. What we can't do is imporve the overall gameplay that is something EA has to do for us.

Now that I've cooled off since reading about this feature, let me share my thoughts:

- This is a gimmick, period. People could create these "legends" on their own in the past very easy. Heck - I've done this (my created Barry Sanders in NCAA 06 was a monster).

- Players don't appear to have the old school facemasks.

- I can't imagine any scenario where I would actually use this feature.

- With all of the core gameplay and equipment requests made on this site via wishlists for years (and several other sites as well), it blows my mind that we still have a football the size of a large watermelon and no long socks - but we have....Charlie Ward? Wait, what!?

- Robert Griffin's Baylor green isnt even close. For crying out loud, he is the cover athlete.

Exactly. They could have hired an intern making 10 bucks per hour to work for 2 weeks on creating these players. Now its a "brand spanking new feature". Me not like.

# 258 wallofhate @ 05/30/12 09:21 PM
I dont mind them putting that "slow down" thing in the game but to say thats how football is in real life is laughable. I mean ive never been an "elite" athlete but I've played people I've been better than and it usually comes down to just that you dominate because your dominant. You here about the game slowing down but that to me is taken out of context. You make decisions faster when your better because most of the time you have no doubt in your mind you will succeed. Im just disappointed in this game as a whole

# 259 tested29 @ 05/30/12 09:46 PM
Sigh...

So this is what EA spent part of this development cycle on? I know they fixed some gameplay errors too, but as someone else said, this is so gimmicky. I get it, they're trying to sell games. I just wish EA would understand that if they would really spend time tuning the game and fixing the errors then EA would sell 3x(or more) as many games this year. People wouldn't skip a year or two; people would see the improvements and say, "hey, this year's game really IS better!" instead of, "looks the same...I'll just download updated rosters." EA is effectively alienating their established customer base in their efforts to get more customers.

I don't know. I'm just holding out hope the updates to the recruiting in dynasty are decent. That's what I'm looking forward to the most.

# 260 CT Pitbull @ 05/30/12 09:55 PM
well going to EAsports.com and leaving my impression of this feature (on the trailer video) has made me feel better and maybe the rest of us here should do the same because its obvious they dont read what we say here at Operation Sports..i hope somebody on that dev team sees my comment but they prob dont care enough to look...i pray to the football gods that they are sandbagging us, saving the good stuff for E3 ..because if they're not its gonna be hard not having a new college pigskin game this year
