NCAA Football 13 News Post

If you can't view the embedded video, click here. (Fast forward to roughly 12:55)
  • No more psychic DB's, DB's have to see the ball, before they can make a play on the ball
  • 25 different pass trajectory zones (Drop it over LB's, lead your receiver using left stick)
  • 20+ new dropbacks, including new screen play dropbacks
  • New rollout passing animations, will still be difficult to complete passes throwing against your body, as you will not have enough arm strength
  • Icons are dimmed out, until they are actually "ready" to make a catch
  • Available in stores July 10th

Same thing I said earlier, boggles my mind. I just can't understand it. I just can't see them touting this passing game upgrade and not adding different QB styles.

theres a noticable difference in those clips, not quite sure how some people cant see it.

My question is with these changes that will make the pass game more realistic, when we get good at this new system, will it be the same thing as last year where it really doesnt matter that much which quarterback we use we can still get the same production?

Has the difference between quarterbacks been changed at all? Because in NCAA 12, there was none.

The frustration comes from them moving on to the next new thing and not making enough improvements to the things already in the game, especially gameplay. They are so focused on adding a new feature each year so they have something to put on the box instead of making sure the game itself is the best it can be. And then they add a new feature and don't improve it, custom stadium sounds, teambuilder, etc. I wonder if they even bothered fixing Coaching Carousel or if just adding it in is enough for them because they think just by adding it they satisfied us.

And then i lose more faith when the videos they pick out, after all this time of developing the game, are so ugly and in this case they talk about something being gone from the game and they show a video with it still in there! Amazing
Complaining about throwing motions to me is like complaining you don't have different cleats to pick from in an update to the running game. It's mostly cosmetic with few nuances and exceptions, and the much bigger problems that need to be solved exist after the QB releases, not what he looks like while he throws the ball. Unless the affects of different throwing motions are a going to be factored into the pass (length of delivery, limited trajectories for some deliveries) then I don't see the point right now.

I am not that concerned with EA's bottom line, I am doing it that way to insure myself from potentially having to keep a $60+ game, I don't enjoy.

Such compelling counter arguments, with this new insight it's a wonder I even questioned it.

Trade in credit is a rip-off also.

I'm trying to understand how grown men (not you specifically) behave as though the world will end if they're not one the first to play the game so they can post their impressions.

Just don't get it at all, especially knowing the history of the game has always required a patch or two after release.

I know some say they will trade it in for Madden, but when has Madden ever been worth $120

I'll wait to get my hands on a rental.
There are still a couple of Blockbusters within 15 min drive from me.
EA is going to make their money. Some fundamental protest by people like us really won't make a difference. If it makes people feel good, awesome, but EA's getting theirs regardless.

So at this point, it is really just about the consumer's bottom line. What used to be an every year buy for some people just isn't because it is tough for some people to be entertained by this year in and year out. For me, I'm buying it every year. The money isn't a problem to me, I get joy out of the game regardless of problems, but for people that may only have money set aside for one game a year... they may have to reconsider.

It sucks that it has come down to this since most of us have played this game for as long as it has been around, but at some point the decision has to be made whether or not to move on.

Thats part of the problem with these games, once the gameplay gets stale (which hasnt taken long so far for these games) you have absolutely nothing because the action on the field doesnt even look pretty or right.

Things like the ball having an invisible force field between it and the quarterbacks hand, it spinning the wrong way, the ball being too big, the throwing motions being downright ugly (not to mention every qb having the same three throwing animations) all have alot to do with how the game comes off and having a pretty, realistic looking game can even make the game flaws slightly more forgivable, but have these games done even this so far?.....No to top it all off it plays ugly.

Animations are still as bad as ever. They still seem to "float" or glide along the grass with no real momentum or physics involved. They need to completely re-do the engine of how they create animations. Get the team for MLB the Show or NBA 2K for lifelike movements.

# 251 jagsrock95 @ 04/15/12 01:48 AM
my god watching this hurts, im sorry the game just looks so lifeless. I watched this pretty much right after playing a game of apf2k8 and its night and day between the to, simply unacceptable that the players still move like this. No amount of graphics can make up for these awful animations. And haven't we always been able to lead the receiver with the left stick? The fixing of passing trajectory and new drop backs is good though but man its a shame that EA still can't get the animations right, this would be the most beautiful game EVER if they did.

If it's true, I'm pumped about the end of psychic DBs.

But the main thing I took away from the video is how awful the animations are. Why didn't NCAA follow in NHL & Fifa's footsteps by updating the physics engine?

It looks (and plays) absurd when 300 lb. D-linemen pirouette and turn on a dime at full speed.

It doesn't matter what fixes the game has, until they fix the physics & animations the game will look and feel like manure.

i remember the "dont patch the gameplay" thread ...hahaha

there has to be a balance, we cant keep accepting bad animations to counter lack of logic...

when properly rated cpu DB's adjust to the abuse of slants.

and online players will need to adjust as well,

its amazing how online ballers like my brother claim to be the greatest online beasts when the cheating AI makes most of the plays for him, he really believes he deserves the warp INT or that his mirroring UAB 54 Ovr rated DB is as good as all americans..

no one wants wide open D, but if every DB uses the same mirroring animation WHERE's the difference in players athletic ability when recruiting or whats the difference in talent between teams

Dont quote me, lol, but I believe these animations are from 2012. So dont expect 2013 to look like this.

***sigh*** All these passing features - minus the 20 unique dropbacks - were available in All Pro Football 2K8. ***sigh*** Thanks EA, only 4 years later.

Yea I still from time to time play apf2k8, and it is sad and upsetting that EA still cant some of the basic things all football games should have right. The most glaring is OL/DL play. I dont think by the look of the last video EA still has got it right.

I really can't think that any of that was NCAA 2012....sorry. I don't have much faith after 5 years of this same BS. I respect your opinion of you think it is 12, I just think that is being wishful at this point.

West by God

I will give the NCAA team this much. At least they seem to understand over the last two or three years whats important to add or attempt to fix. With them placing priority on momentum, coaching carousel, and this year the passing game. My issue has been the execution has been awful.

There was a time where we were getting things like mini games, mascount games, team builder, etc. If nothing else I'm happy they at least understand the problems and not pretend they don't exist(even if they won't admit it until they've attempted to fit it LOL).

# 259 Jr. @ 04/15/12 12:16 PM
The thing I noticed that makes me believe this footage is from a build of '13 is that the LSU CB is actually looking at the WR in all of those clips.

I never noticed that in '12. They just ran along with the WR, but in these clips the DB's head is turned toward the WR until he whips it around to intercept the pass.

I play online ranked games too but that's because it's the best way for me to find out how solid the game play really is. EA's QA sure doesn't and can't be expected to find all the glitches and bugs but people online do, REAL QUICK! lol

Also, it seems you misunderstand my plan for purchasing the game. If I buy the game from say Target, not necessarily on release day, more likely after the named rosters drop, then I have 15 days to return the opened game for an exchange or store credit, for the FULL purchase price.

Seems like you keep trying to play me on the sneak, to be the "kid" on the block that has to have the game first. Nothing wrong with that but college football ain't that serious for me. The NFL and Madden on the other hand, I normally do cop that day 1. lol
Don't know what "play me on the sneak" means, but my intent was to have a simple
gamer-gamer chuckle, nuth'n more.

I forgot this is OS.
