Get with the times. Online is the future. The CPU will never be as smart as a human so stop thinking that the CPU logic should be of higher priority than online, because it's not. This developer insight says online association. Why would you expect it to be about offline association?
Oh yeah on a final note, the core base IS changing.
This is awesome news. I can not stress enough I much I hated online leagues. I don't mind playing against the computer, I just want a season format just like NCAA Football. This game was already on my radar, but this turns it into a must buy. Well, once the lockout is over anyway.
I think a lot of people are putting off a "meh" attitude because we've pretty much known this was in for awhile. I don't agree with that and it goes to show you how spoiled most of us are but that's another topic.
In general terms though everything is sounding awesome.
Bolded for truth. Looking forward to this discussion being had. In the meantime, excellent addition to the game
I have never really played hoops games online but I am interested in giving the mode a try. I have concerns about what commish function are available for advancing. I can see players getting annoyed and quitting if games are simmed because they can not get a time set up to play an opponet. I wonder if the commish would be able to set an auto-pilot, delay advance or use manual advance instead of a preset advance time. A preset auto-advance would cause a lot of problems in larger leagues. I could see people getting pretty upset if they were unable to get playoff games in because an AWOL opponet. Hopefully there are some decent tools that make the leagues maintainable and interesting. If not a league with just a buddy or two would be a blast and easily maintainable. Can't wait to see how this plays out.
I dont play online at all so cant make a comment I trieded it once and I got spined dunked to death...
This is going to sound insulting but it's not... I am genuinely curious, do you offline gamers have any friends? I ask because when u all mention online it's always about cheesers... Well if u have friends or family who play this game then this is easily the best thing to happen to sports video games since the analog stick!!! I have 5 buddy's who are all about to join me in a NBA utopia where we get to pretend to be g.m. And superstars simultaneously!
If that does not excite u, then u either don't like basketball or don't have friends. In either case, my player mode sounds like your 2ktopia. Have fun with that, but please chill with the negative Nancy responses. Sheesh

The cpu also will never be as dumb, petty, obnoxious, racist (some), etc. as a human can be - it goes both ways; that's why a lot of people don't play online. I'm not a big online player but looking forward to getting into online more and trying this out.
And why is it now people need every single thing explained or they'll assume the worst? Just because they're not mentioning every improvement doesn't mean those areas of the game were ignored.
Off topic but it would be the greatest thing ever if 2k revived College Hoops with this type of feature.
Man I think 2k should do everything in their power to get the rights back for college hoops. Just imagine how good the game will be now.
For example, you can have a myplayer mode in college hoops where you start off as a high school rising senior on the AAU circuit and work your way all the way to the NBA. That would be tight!
The only thing I want to know about Online Association is, how many people do you NEED to start it up with? Because my cousin and I just want to do one with just us (Him being New York and me being Orlando) and the 28 other teams controlled by the computer. I don't want to have to find other people that might quit after a day because they didn't get the team they wanted. That's what I hated about league.

LOVED all that was written ... but and there always seems to be a but ... I was/am more concernedIinterested on what wasnt told:
- Unspecified details of what was told (custom draftclasses?, custom rosters ?, custom sliders ?, legend teams ?, etc)
- Unspecified details of corrected bugs (same players getting drafter over and over, hired generated coaches having the exact same coaching slider and playbooks, rotation and roles not migrating from main screen, AI trading logic, etc)
- Unspecified possible new features integrated into it (whatever / if any)
Hopefully we get some more info prior the game release, as I know that Erick (2k dev) is as much of a fan as anyone here, of the real life association ... some light intervention would be appreciated (is not a request but rather the expression of what I feel) ... anyways, looking forward to get my hands on thegame and on this specific mode (offline & online).
great insight. looks like a well thought out mode that deals with a lot of the potential issues that may arise. as long as it has high participation and low amount of issues, should be the mode that gets the most play now that crew is adios.
- How will the All-Star Game be affected by an online association?
- How will (Custom Draft Class or not) Rookies be introduced via David Stern?
(I can only assume "editable rookies/rosters" wouldn't be allowed because what if the league admin messes with the rosters in ways he/she shouldn't) <--feel free to speculate
- Will coaches get hired/fired/retire?
- What happens if you need to reset a game? How will that work with the "10 game window"?
- Injuries: Will there be season ending/career ending injuries? Can you play injured players
- Can multi team trades be proposed? With draft picks?
- How will the cap work with users trying to resign players?
- Will the player logic be on point so that a "Delonte West" isn't asking for an unreasonable amount of money come free agent signing?
- Can players "demand" trades to other user teams?
- If a game(s) is simulated due to the 3 day period passing, can those games be reset?
- Other than bragging rights, what achievement do you get for winning the championship? Last pick in the upcoming draft?
Just some random questions to speculate on...I think if implemented well, this changes the sports gaming world.
