Something I think is underutilized on offense is the lob pass (cross button). This can be used to make longer passes, often from one side of the field to the other when the defense collapses. You can also use it float the ball over defenders when passing lanes are congested. I have a fair amount of success using it around the box, which comes in handy due to all the traffic. If you hold RB while making a lob pass, you perform a harder, lower lob pass which can be helpful for passing from the middle to the flank (just make sure no defenders are in the way). Try playing around with this stuff in practice mode; it can help open up your offense and get away from a 'point A to B to C' attack.

As for defense, I notice you don't list the teammate contain button (ie, second defender pressure in previous years). By default it's on RB, which can be awkward since we often need to use sprint on RT. What I did after playing a few games of the demo was remap the defensive buttons (although I prefer the alternate controls which flip the use of X/B):

LT: Jockey
LB: Player Switch
RT: Sprint
RB: User Contain
Y: Call Keeper
B: Teammate Contain
X: Slide Tackle
A: Standing Tackle

This allows me to call my teammates to contain the ball while I can sprint if I needed to cover a runner or get into position. I rarely use the user auto-contain feature, as I also prefer to play "manual defense" using the jockey commands. With the default controls, I found it very difficult to make use of the teammate contain command. While it doesn't make them go in for the tackle like the old 2nd defender pressure system did, it does come in handy when the user wants/needs to control someone away from the ball.
Thanks a damn ton QB!

This is the kinda of stuff I need to know. I could tell just by playing people that I was lacking "something". These guys went on excellent runs and players attacked the zones much more than my guys. Since my guys really just stood and waited on me to do something.

I also use the teammate contain button pretty often when they get near the box. I noticed the AI teammates do a pretty poor job guarding the opposite attacking man so I normally tell my team mate to guard ball handler while I guard passing lane and cutting down on the pass options to the attacking defenders near my box. I just forgot to list the button in my first post. Had to edit it in after.

Now the cross stuff and making runs I did not know of. Isn't there more options with the through ball (Y) than just hitting Y? I remember on world cup there was couple different things you could do with it.

Yes, LB+Y is a lofted through ball.

If you like to have the CPU hold up the ball while you cover the passing lanes, definitely try moving teammate contain away from the shoulder button.

Yeah...there is no point in a "User Contain" button....you're much better of jockeying.

Now let me ask you guys this. How do these guys do skill moves while sprinting?

I can skill only when I am holding LT and moving at a snail pace.

Like this for example - #3 at 1:08.

Was goal #1 flicked in with his back foot?!

Jesus...incredible.

I suggest going into arena mode and playing around for a bit. Hold LT and flick the right stick around.

Naw I can do a good bit of skill moves. I am confident in that ability, I don't know how they do it while moving so fast.

LB to create runs is HUGE!!! I just picked up a win on my first game today. Created a beautiful run which I used some skill moves to blow by the defense for the score.

Very happy with my 3 games I played today. 2 wins and 1 loss. Unreal just how much calling runs out helps the game.

I won't speak on gameplay because FIFA is FIFA. Nothing ever really changes. People seem to be enjoying it and that's cool.

I will say that the inability for this game to stay connected to its servers is irritating. Especially when it happens while the game is loading and causes the game to freeze.

Haven't had that issue in the probably 6 hours we have put into the game in the last 2 days.

Only time I get the disconnect is if I try and save replays after a online match. Other than that I have never seen a disconnect.

This was one of my earlier matches when I was learning the new TD and new gameplay. I played SLOPPY!!!! SLOPPY defense, SLOPPY offense, and should of never won this game. My little simulation goaltender played his heart out and saved my butt for my first win.

Ohhh and this ultimate team is horrible here. This is my first time ever playing UT and I was just figuring out how to match guys for chemistry. I now have a entire Ireland team with 95% chemistry.

I suck at the game but I am getting better slowly, 2 wins last night and only 1 loss. Improvement

Went 2-1 again tonight. Guy I lose to was a extreme high pressure guy. Sad thing is he ran over my guys nonstop yet I had 6 fouls and he had ZERO. It was the most bizarre thing I have seen so far. I would have ball he would run me over to ground and take ball then I would get called for foul and he would have free kick.

Even after starting to get better I still HATE physic engine. I don't think it is that great.

So I opened up my copy & played 3 games today & I'm enjoying it very much. Im a casual gamer when it comes to soccer so im not up to speed with all the flashy moves but in time I'll get the hang of it. I tried out Ultimate Team after the game dealt me, probably, the weakest team I've seen only having 1 silver guy at 71 Overall. Messing around with the team like moving around players, setting the formation, etc. I can see how this mode can really be addicting.

Once I was done setting up I go to play a game to see how punished I would get with my team & I ended up winning 1-0, only because the opposing team accidently hit a header into the goal. I see myself playing this for a while. NEED MORE COINS!

Welcome to FIFA.

High pressure and mindlessly slamming into players is always rewarded.

Luckily, the AI doesn't do that as much anymore when playing against them.

This is a game from Wednesday. I played sloppy as hell but I am still trying hard to get better. I can't believe I came back to win this game. What a hell of a shot to win the game!!

You most likely right JB and I will go to singleplayer later. I bought the game for ultimate team and is the entire reason. I am a online player. I play 99% of all my games online only, I get into football offline is about only game but all others I play online.

So I am just working slowly at improving and hoping to at least hold my own even against high pressure guys.

I really dislike this new Impact Engine. I don't see a lot of the crazy over-the-top outcomes made famous on youtube but instead collisions that don't take physics into account and leave the user with a lack of control. I've gvien up so many soft goals where my player will get hit, no foul will be called, and he will get caught up in some animation that leaves the opponent with easy access to the ball. Because any little contact can produce an outcome it makes handling the ball with a central defender way too risky.

To be honest, I didn't see an issue with the old impact engine/collision system.

THANK YOU KG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have been saying this since I got the game. It adds nothing to the game for me but instead creates so many runs and easy goals due to guys getting run flat over like this is american football WITH NO CALL!!

If they fixed the fouls and more cards maybe this would deter people from smashing into your people and cause more of a "positional game" but as of now. High pressure smash into the ball handler is the name of the game.
