Agree about the physics. The issue before was referee logic, not physics. Now they have the same issue before and a new one.

Kind of along the lines of what QB was saying earlier in the thread. I'm adjusting to the gameplay and am not having as much an issue with the lack of fouls. This isn't to say that it still doesn't need tuning though.

One thing that really helped me is to not feel locked in when moving forward with the ball. Often, I would attack space and try to move the ball forward. As a result my players would have a small window with the ball. I've found that I've become more effective generating offense and getting my players in dangerous areas by attacking space, drawing some defenders in, and passing back to a player with more time and space. If you can sustain some pressure and hold the ball up for a bit of time in these dangerous areas, you'll draw way more fouls.

I like the new physics system and I think it will be great in a couple of years, but as of now it has a lot of beta-ish things going on. I absolutely agree about the referee logic being messed up with the new physics engine, but it's a fixable problem. And it is not just a problem in terms of smashing into players without committing a foul, but also in terms of handing out red cards for practically no reason at all.

At least there was a bug when the ref wanted to give a red card for apparently no reason last night (I was playing online against my brother). The player got caught in a side-stepping motion and sneaked off the field, so the ref had to chase him to give him the red card. It looked hilarious

FIFA 12 is clearly a step in the right direction, but it does not mean there they are anywhere near there yet. I'm still enjoying FIFA 12, even though I often get frustrated about the refs, but I am looking forward to seeing it fine tuned in future editions of FIFA.

Because any little contact can produce an outcome it makes handling the ball with a central defender way too risky.

To be honest, I didn't see an issue with the old impact engine/collision system.
Is this what you're referring to? I also love how the through magically made it past my three teammates who just stood there with hands up their *es.

The image at the end of the clip was taken just after a Newcastle player sent a corner into the box. Prior to the kick being taken my back line was in perfect marking position as soon as the ball was sent in they simultaneously backed off.

That looked PES 2011ish on the through ball but yeah, semi-over exaggerated animation + lack of urgency by CPU teammates = a goal conceded.

Playing this game online sucks. I hate the way people play.

I don't like the new camera angle.

What was the height and zoom of Fifa 11 tele?

I don't think there is any fix for this. The higher the level, the less help you get from your teammates. The same goes for the CPU as well. Sometimes they'll have a player in position to make a play or help mark and they do nothing.

This is by far the most frustrating sports video game I've played in years. The marking is just awful for both the USER and the CPU, the precision dribbling is far too effective, and the officiating is absolute joke. Finally the obvious momentum and scripting in this game are as bad as I've ever seen.

Here is a video I made of a number of examples of the horrid marking in this game. Some are my CPU teammates and some are the CPU. All of these examples are on Legendary.......

Good idea to add Tactical Defending, but it's either broken or the programmed momentum is overriding the intent of TD. That could be one of the problems. The bigger problem is that while it some instances it's good that the CPU defenders contain, they haven't figured out that the back four defend differently than the rest of the group. In past FIFAs when you get into the box you were swarmed with defenders the way you should be. In FIFA 12, the whole team defends "tactically" all over the pitch and it's killing the game.

Every single cpu player, regardless of rating, dribbles the ball around like Cristiano Ronaldo and keeps possession of the ball at around a 60-40 click. Whenever you actually gain possession of the ball and push it into the box, the cpu's defenders filthy little toes stop every single shot or pass.
After posting this I will be trading in FIFA for PES12 and I will never look back. PES11 plays a better game of football than FIFA12. I realize that there will be EA fanboys who will support every title put oout by the the company, but FIFA12 is more of a fail than the initial ship NCAA12. Inexcusable and completely unplayable.
I hear your gripes and I don't disagree with all of them but FIFA 12 is a far deeper experience than PES 11. It sounds like your frustration comes from the lack of ability to control the ball and yes, PES 11 does have that going for it. But PES 11 is just ugly at times, and I honestly missed the control schemes of FIFA whenever I was playing it. I tried both last year, and was actually in favor of PES for about a month or so after getting sick of the constant ball-stealing in FIFA 11, but this has not been as much of a problem (IMO) in FIFA 12.

PES has a pretty good framework, but it's also very "Japanese" (by which I mean, technical & not consumer-friendly) in its menus and interfaces and the near total lack of real licenses really does kill the longevity. Respect your opinion and absolutely hope they can continue making a competitive product, but I'm with the majority on this one that FIFA 12 is just a better product. I view the new Manager Mode as worlds superior to what they put out last year, and if they could just keep this framework with some significant improvements to tactical defending (which I stopped using) and especially AI, FIFA 13 could be even more special.

If they fixed transfer logic in MM, the lack of fouls, and CPU crosses this game would be golden IMO.

Agree on all points, but have to add progression for young players. Youth players don't progress much post patch and it results in all players in the game being rated too low and not having special moves later on in CM.

I finally picked this up for PC. It looks fantastic and is the best playing football game I've ever played. Tough but seemingly fair against the CPU.

Anybody else on the PC should check out Fidel's Gameplay Mod, it improves things a lot, making the refs stricter and the ball feels heavier and less prone to shooting up like its full of helium. Also the CPU seems to vary its attack more and use skill moves to devasting effect.

Game is brilliant and far more sim than PES on full manual setting with analog sprint. Games are dynamic and fluid. Default assisted settings are garbage imo. Assisted passing almost breaks the game. Also late in games when cpu goes into full press don't give up the ball unless you have too. Change tactics or use custom tactics where help is closer to avoid turnovers.

On headers jump when the arc of the ball hit's it's peak and is headed downwards. Make the goalie stay in the net and not run out or vise versa. Game is dynamic and fluid you have change and think constantly on the fly to win.

The same routines that worked all game can change in a flash. Game is not cheap online or off you just have to play long enough to master it. If not let go of the frustration and grab something else. No worries I just came back to fifa last year and full manual while frustrating saved the game for me. Watch enough real matches and see how many shots go just wide it happens. Wish more people played that way it is the true game.

Best Buy has it now for 39.99.

Due to the career mode I never thought this game was worth 59.99.

BUT with it now at 40 The gameplay is some of the best this sports gaming generation has seen

Did they ever fix the lack of fouls? I never got 12 this year mostly because this past fall was loaded with tons of big games.

Might be worth picking up for $40 now though.

# 278 kerosene31 @ 02/02/12 07:24 PM
Well I picked this up for $40. I only played 1 game, so these are initial impressions.

I played the demo last night and struggled as I tried to play it like past games (trying to steal the ball every moment). I read some of the great guides online and played defense as was suggested and had a great game. I took away space and passing options and used pressure with teammates and ended up in a scoreless draw (but a fun one). I set everything on manual and missed some opportunities that should have been finished (but not in a frustrating way, I'm just out of practice).

The foul thing did bite me once... almost. One of my center backs was about to clear when he was taken down from behind very questionably which ended up in a great scoring opportunity, but it didn't go in.

Still only 1 game, but I like what I've seen so far mostly. Well worth the $40 for anyone on the fence I would think. The NHL game always dominates my fall, but now I should have time for this.

Based on this paragraph, I think you'll have a good time with the game.

not a soccer buff, but played this game for the first time last night. I am not very good. need to learn some of the different ways to shoot and play defense. the online manual doesn't do much justice.
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!!
