NCAA Football 12 News Post

Christian McLeod has confirmed the NCAA Football 12 roster glitch will be addressed in an upcoming patch. The fix for now? Are you ready for this? Delete your named roster file.

What are the problems you ask? Here are just a few comments from the OS community.

One of the NCAA Football 12 Software Engineer's posted this topic (roster related), in hopes to get some things resolved.

When you edit the name of a scrambling QB it changes them to balanced and editing a balanced QB changes them to scrambling. I noticed when i downloaded a roster with names that Denard Robinson was shown as a balanced QB so i went back to the default roster and he was back to a scrambler. So i played a game with the named roster and he attempted zero scrambles. I then played a game with the default roster and he scrambled five times in the first two drives.

I seen this last week when I downloaded Fairdale Kings rosters for the 360. It just isn't the QBs tendancy that changes, it is also the pass rusher, coverage guys, hard hitters.

Everybody tendancy description changes......

I noticed it also effected the Kick off and punt returns for the CPU. And effected the punt blocking the user. With no names, I was able to return punts back for a TD sometimes with a good enough returner.

With names, the gunners get down the field super fast like they did in NCAA 11.

With out names, the CPU was able to return punts and kick offs back for TDs on me. With names, their blocking is non existent and the cpu have a hard time making it to the 30 yard line on kick offs and on Punt returns they get 3 yards now, my gunners get down the field so fast now I be right on top of them as soon as they catch the ball.

So as it stands, no names seem to give the better game play.

Being that other players tendancies have changed, I noticed some things.

1. LBs get a lot of tips and INTs on named rosters, even when they aren't in position to do so.

2. Safeties who suppose to be heavy hitters, turn into coverage guys and Intercept passes they normally wouldn't.

3. WRs get off the line quicker on named rosters and they hit stick tackle people on Ints. I had intercepted a pass and a WR hit sticked me.

4. Thomas with his new found strength is now more likely to keep the ball on read option plays. More like 90% of the time now. This was the same way in NCAA 11 when you made a QB's strength too high.

5. DEs don't generate a pass rush on named rosters like they do on non named rosters.

Now I am REALLY glad I didn't delete the default roster. I will have that to play until they fixed the name rosters issue.

Way too many players to edit get them back to what they suppose to be tendancy wise. Which is another thing, with the work around even though they back to their correct tendancy, their ratings will be out of whack.

Good players will be made weaker, weaker bad players will be made stronger.

Same issue with no patch.

Also messed around, it changes the tendency for every single player. Im thinking that the rosters will have to be named again if this is patched.

How can they patch it to go in reverse and correct tendencies on already named rosters?

Looks like a more realistic patch is a fix to keep it from changing for future named rosters.

Just received confirmation that this issue is being looked into heavily by the guys at EA. Be patient--there is a sizable amount of testing with different design divisions to identify the issue and look into a possible fix.

It would be helpful if you can please put together a chart showing the following for all positions affected by this issue. I would then like to provide this information to EA. This would also help with making community edits if necessary. Thanks.

The backlash will have zero effect. Once the patch hits, people will go back to playing the game and they will buy the game again next year.

It almost seems that way though...case in point:

"Audio is super nice this year...especially the CROWD!!" - crowd is all but silent on default

"how about some diving catches?!?!" - very rare diving catches

"We invented a new button for tackling!" - Effing dive button, new name

Tendencies? Broken.
Suction/Warping? Still exists.
Defense already knows your play and audibles into perfect defenses along with you? Obviously.
Pass Interference? No, because eff you that's why.

And it could go on a few more, but i think we are all familiar with this stuff.

The saddest part is that i'm still excited to get out of work tonight and play this game lol.

I'm pretty much disgusted with EA by now. I guess all I can do is start playing a lot of online games to hold my attention until the patch comes out. And this patch better come out quick.

Ok, next time you go to your local supermarket and they sell you spoiled milk and rotten food for which you paid, its ok, cause they "owe you nothing".

Or at a car dealership and they sell you a NEW vehicle, except the heat/ac doesnt work, the radio has no signal, and the wiper blades dont work. Oh yeah, the gas gauge is broken too, but its ok, they "owe you nothing".

I haven't read the entire thread so if this has been stated please forgive me, but if when you edit a player and it says he is a 'scrambler', but on the roster screen lists him 'balanced' I don't think they would have to re-enter names, at least I hope not.

Im talking only if the patch makes the roster makers re-do the names, and everyone that waits for names has to wait again to start their dynastys.

EDIT: great avatar btw

i wish people would just stop arguing and get word out to EA to get it fixed!! I would also like to know more about this so called "HDR LIGHTING SCANDAL" supposedly EA did something to downgrade the graphics?? and the game looks better pre-patch.... I deleted the patch to see myself and idk if it was just my mind playing tricks on me but the graphics looked slightly better after i deleted EAs initial launch update...? if anyone knows anything about this PLEASE HELP!!!

Exactly. I am hoping that once they patch it everything just switches back to normal but there is a chance that it won't be that easy.

Thanks. That means everyone will have to wait maybe a week or 2. I'm not trying to be an *** but EA is only concerned about next year's sales at this point and most of you will have forgotten about this by the time next years game comes around. Starting Monday, they start marketing the hell out of Madden so that will be their financial focus.

Well then I'm a sucker for buying the game. I'm a college football addict & buy the game yearly; no matter how it is because I love playing with USC.

I think the (conspiracy) theory is that EA trotted out this beautiful version of the game with the lighting that didn't play right (slowdown, glitches, etc) and then patched the graphics to reduce those things which made the game run better. Bait and switch mostly.

What other product would you buy every year if you know that out of the box there would be issues and that you wouldnt be satisfied with the product until a month or two after you bought it? I know I cant think of one yet every year you guys rush in mass to buy the game Day 1.
I feel it is huge. Editing rosters is huge in a lot of sports games, but especially college. Their are people that wait to play their game or dynasty until rosters are out. As someone else said, if I want to edit something as simple as a wristband, it potentially screws that player up and how he plays.

Last year I got NCAA first day, this year I got it early. While I like last years, dynasty became unplayable and now this bug this year. I've learned my lesson with NCAA Like I did with Madden three years ago. It will be wait and see next year.

But what really bothers me... Is when I go in my bedroom and see NCAA07 for LG, and see at one point in time, with the exclusive deal, they were able to get it right.

Dont get me wrong. So am I. I just think its useless to overreact to this because it happens every year and with almost every sports game. EA knows about the glitch and I expect that they are looking into how to fix this.

Im more disgusted in myself than EA, I was blinded by NCAA mania. Just last night, my wife said "You shouldve waited two weeks", damn near threw her out the window.

Huge to you is different than others. The majority of my OD refuses to play until this is fixed. Nobody wants to play a 70 speed QB and watch him try to run 15 times a game, but have a speedster not use his natural athleticism to help his team out. Might not be broken, but it definitely has a major effect on gameplay.

On blaming the consumers: People probably shouldn't go get this on release day anymore, but you think that a company as large as EA could avoid releasing a broken game every year. Are we morons for buying it? Yes. But that doesn't give the company an excuse to put out a broken product. Look at the backlash over NASCAR 2011. You want to tell me that company hasn't lost a ton of respect and money due to that fiasco? EA has been heading this way. Many people are now just waiting and buying the game used instead of on release day.

OS customers are a different breed than the majority. We get it on release day because we're college football and college football gaming junkies. We will suffer through a broken game and play it because it's our only way, with the exclusive contract EA has. Plenty of people I know that used to go out at midnight to pick up the game have stopped and now buy it used. The midnight release at my local GameStop has gone from 150 people to about 35 in the past 3 years. For 11, I showed up at 11:30 and got my game at 12:20. This year, I showed up at 11:45 and got it at 12:03. People aren't going out in droves anymore to pick it up like they used to because the quality isn't there. Only the hardcore people, like OS members, are.

Here is the reality: You guys want new features every year right? Well alot of times when they add new features or fix issues from the previous year....things get broken. EA would have no problem at all just giving you NCAA 07 every year with updated rosters if people were willing to buy it but that isnt the case. So saying "It worked last year" doesnt matter because this is a new game with new features that can sometimes cause big problems.

Every year as these games add more features and become more advanced the likelihood of bugs like this increase. I hope you actually do wait next year but if you dont lets not go overboard with the bitching. You've been warned two years straight now.

To me as programmer, it seems like it should be simple... but as I'm sure there code is quite complex by the miriad of problems we see, it's probably not. Everything looks correct in the edit menu. There is a trigger somewhere in the code that is telling it do the opposite on the roster screen. That new label there causes problems in game. Sim results appear not to be affected with further research, but I'm not ready to confirm that. I want to do some more testing myself, but with slow menus, it gets old fast, but I will do some more later.

Then you need some perspective. LOL. Its a game and its still playable. Its an annoying glitch but you can still play the game.

I really don't want new features every year. I just want a good, simulation-based football game without bugs or glitches, and editing capabilities. Is that really too much to ask for from EA?
