NCAA Football 12 News Post

At this point in a console generation, it feels like sports games are at an advantage and disadvantage. On the one hand, developers should have an immense amount of understanding of the consoles they are working on now. This means adding those extra little elements of joy and polish can be more easily worked into the development of a game. However, it seems like it would be almost crazy to talk about installing an all-new physics engine or something else along those lines at this point in a console's life cycle. Changes like that just seem to happen more often than not at the start of a new console generation.

And NCAA Football 12 might epitomize that double-edged sword. Some of the tweaks that I was shown and was able to mess around with are immediately noticeable and mostly positive, but for folks wanting widespread change, a new engine or some masterful stroke of development genius that will create this all-new football game should probably reel in their expectations a bit.

As for custom books, will they be usable in online play? Did that come up?

Too late to overhaul the engine? The game is basically using the same engine as last gen. NCAA games. I predict we will actually see some good engine overhauls when either A)They clean house and put a whole new staff working on the game or B) Xbox 900 is out in about 20 years.
Wow. The engine is clearly not the same as last gen. Maybe you should compare systems ps3-ps2 or Xbox-360 and then you'd get a better understanding of engine and how they differ. If you have kept up with anything they have given us, they have reported that madden n ncca share the same engine and "improvements" were being made and it would be altered to have a more collegiate feel. You would suggest they clean house despite the devs actually seem to be listening to majority of the community and making significant changes step by step?

Everyone expecting leaps and bounds do not understand gaming and the work that goes under the hood.

I'm going to choose to believe College Gameday hasn't been implemented yet so they can release that tasty bit of info on their own terms.

That's probably wrong, it's probably not in, but I'm clinging to the hope dammit!

Other than that, the rest sounds dynamite. If all of this works as well as it sounds, this could be a really, really special game.

Again, it comes down to fixing recruiting and adding some dynamic player progression and degression. I want to see mid level teams able to sign some 5 stars every now and then, and Boise State sign ZERO 5 stars like they do in real life. I dont wanna see 50s overall on teams like Ohio State, Texas, Alabama, Florida, Oklahoma, etc, etc. I want JUCOs to have their own list. They should not be in the Top 150, and teams like Ohio State should not be signing 8 JUCOs every year, terrible JUCOs at that. I wanna see conference and non-conference scheduling fixed, or atleast allowed to be editable for every team.

Nice to see that defense is back.

Custom Playbooks can you use them online line like in head to head games or dynasty mode ? i hate madden 09 when they added it if u bought the collectors edition u could use custom play books but not online that was so stupid

but this game so far sounds good

U want a mid level team to sign a 5* but u don't want Boise, who is establishing itself, to sign any?!?! Ummm that's a little outta whack to me. I agree a mid level should sign a 5* but Boise should be able to sign them too even if they haven't received one to this point. I don't think 5* should ALWAYS go to the same 3-5 schools.

Chase,

How was the QB throwing? Could u throw a flag route out in front? Was there an in between pass instead of either being a bullet or a floater?

For starters I really like the direction this team has been going. I will be buying this year's NCAA Football just for the little bit of info that has come out to date.

Am I happy about the same ol' commentary?: NO
Am I happy about the not having Gameday in this year?: NO

But here is to hoping for next year like every year!

Amen! It is as if everyone else has forgotten the things that had made dynasty mode so frustrating because "Look! Wow! Dreads and silly team openings that I will skip past after seeing them for a week!"

Glad to see gameplay changes in the tackling field

You guys do realize that there is still plenty of time for EA to pull something out of their sleeves....right? Please tell me I'm not the only one thinking like that....

All these mascot upgrades are great, but my mascot is never right. Just once before I die, can you put the rifle in the Mountaineers hand? I don't care if he never shoots the damn thing, but please, for the love of god, he looks like a complete dork without the rifle. Is there some type of rule, that if a rifle (even one that doesn't fire real bullets or shot) shows up in a video game, that it can't get the 'E' rating? Let common sense prevail, and fix this.

Chase,
Is the Menu format and screens look the same as last year? I didnt have a problem with it at all

Well Chase said he only played exhib mode maybe College Gameday is only in Dynasty Mode like Extra Point in Madden. (Wishful Thinking) And can someone tell me the obsession with chain gangs is it just that they add more immersion to the game?

"Looks like a dork" LOL! That cracked me up.

Well, you can blame our paranoid society. You know if they put a gun in his hands some kid is going to shoot somebody and blame it on EA.

I was hoping to see more flexibility with depth charts, formation subs, and packages. Maybe having strongside/weakside positions instead of left/right, or being able to specify slot recievers and outside recievers, or 3rd down backs. Could you see if there were any changes like this made in play-now, or would that be more of a custom-playbook or dynasty feature?

# 160 LucianoJJ @ 04/22/11 05:28 PM

The presentation looks upgraded. Nice job incorporating more college-specific imagery. So many of these schools have their own rituals, that it's not enough to show teams running onto the field with index fingers up year after year. This gets closer to excitement of the college game.

Smart zone coverage is good to see. Custom play books are huge, a major asset for dynasties or online play. My next question is the execution of the option. I hope this game ships with minimal bugs, and patches worsen it. NCAA 11 was good, but NCAA 12 looks better. All the info released was worth the wait.
