Madden NFL 11 News Post

I recentely sat down for a talk with FBGRatings.com's Dan Berens to discuss his site's vision and what's going on over there today. The site is currently working on getting accurate ratings for every player using real hard data converted into the Madden ratings universe. Dan claims that when these numbers are plugged into the game, it plays much better and much closer to real life. Check out the interview below and also check out Dan's website to see what he's got going on!

No. I do not. There are better measures for STR. The bench is a test of muscular endurance, more that overall upper body strength. You would also have to quantify lower body strength into the STR equation, which the bench test does not do. I have other measures for STR.

Another update.

Basic data has been completed for all players. That means that they all have Ht, Wt, DOB, positions, draft year, experience, colleges, and draft data.

Next up is to link the players to the scouting data which should only take a day or so. Then its on to putting in all the ratings for the season. That will be the most complex part, but shouldn't be too bad. I will be on vacation next week so nothing will be happening, but after that I will be right back at it getting these ratings in for opening day.

Are Madden team using you or not?
Will there be a spread sheet or an easier way of getting lots of stats rather than clicking on an individual? Your stats are awesome dude and i would like to use them.

STR could then be a formula using bench press for upper body and broad jump for lower body.
Formula using them both to spit out an overall "strength" rating.

Vertical jumping is probably 'the' drill to measure the "jumping" attribute.

No, I am independent from the Madden team. If you would like them to know about my work, feel free to email them and let them know.

And yet, the JMP rating in Madden also affects diving forward, not just upward. If diving for a pylon for example.

The broad is not always an indicator of lower body STR and leg drive though. Variances in technique and launch could affect the distance attained, especially because players do the drill at different weights.

No updates as of yet. I am on vacation until the 25th so no work is being done all this week. But once I get back I will continue to process data including position-specific attributes. Stay tuned.

this may be a dumb question or already been answered, but how do we download these rosters to the game after we buy it? is there a community roster share with gamertags like ncaa football? or do we have to manually type in each attribute for each player? thanks a lot and GREAT work!!

As of now, you have to enter them in manually. Rosters for download will come at a later date.

how would we download those rosters once available? onto a memory card and import it into the game? or can we do it online through the game?

do you use profootballfocus.com to help you decide how to rate each player's positional skills?

You will be able to D/L the rosters from the site for free.

No. I use scouting data. PFF does not take some skills into account.

Once these are all finished and downloadable, will there also be downloadable draft classes to go with them? If not, anyone trying to play franchise mode with these ratings will find that the draft classes that come with the game will not match up with the new ratings.

That is not ENTIRELY accurate. The ratings are still based off of the numbers and distribution for ratings in Madden. The only difference is that hard data is used for raw attributes and scouting data is used to calculate subjective information. So, it is not like you will have QBs only having a maximum of 80 THP or something like that via FBG, rather, the THP is calculated using more accurate information outside of the strict opinion of a software developer.

As for classes, that is not being considered at this time, but a colleague is working on a site to use FBG for NCAA Football gaming.

Okay, I misunderstood then. So the Madden draft class players will not in fact be far superior (or inferior) in ratings when compared the way you rate players?

No, the variation will be roughly the same. The only difference is that the ratings are not over-inflated at the top, which has been a problem in Madden for years anyway. I guess I would prefer not to use the broken parts of the system when building my own. Think of it like building a new car from tattered and beaten parts...doesn't make much sense, does it?

# 240 Argooos @ 07/25/11 05:56 PM
I completely agree. My only concern was that your ratings would be of no use to me as a franchise player. Now I see that the only problem will be that the pre-made draft class players will have some over-inflated stats, yet will be on par with everyone else in terms of their overall rating.
