MLB 11 The Show News Post

ESPN's Jon Robinson has just posted his MLB 11 The Show first look. Plenty of information here!

Quote:
"Before each swing, you can also try to guess the pitch and location just like last year, as well as choose whether you want to take a normal swing, swing for power, or hit for contact. Hitting for contact is what's new here, as this is more about simply trying to put the bat on the ball and advancing the runners than anything else -- your batter will take a severe power penalty when selecting this option. On top of that, if gamers want an additional challenge at the plate, Sony has also added true zone hitting into the game. Here, hitters can select the option of not only needing to fine-tune the timing of the stride and swing, but will also need to move a cursor onto the ball as it reaches the plate in order to make contact. According to Gill, this is an option the hardcore fans have been wanting for years. "Again, if we were going to do it, we wanted to make sure we did it right," he explains.

In terms of pitching, the meter the game has been using for years has been revamped a bit to incorporate the new controls. Once pitch and location are selected, gamers will pull back on the right analog stick. This causes the ball on the meter to drop toward a line about three-quarters of the way down. As soon as the ball hits the line, the pitcher will then press up on the right stick, but here's the twist -- if your location is on the outside part of the plate to a right handed batter, you'll need to press up and to the right in order to guide the ball into the target that will appear at the top of the meter. This is all about mastering the stick as you'll need to not only time the movements right, but hit your spot. This really adds to the pressure of each pitch. One mistake and you might fire the ball right down the middle, then watch it fly by your head so fast you get virtual whiplash."

Unbelievable the way the guys at SCEA improve this game year in and year out. The only thing I am really hoping for would be the ability to mix and match styles of hitting and pitching. For example: Use analog pitching, but use the buttons and left stick for hitting/total zone hitting. Or any other combination you can think of.

Any idea if rainouts are in? I know we finally get rain.

Russell confirmed this earlier in the thread.

No more Hud? You mean I never have to hear "MAN, he was about ready to go after THAT one TOO!" or here about how well my young pitcher is doing even though I've only faced ONE batter?

I can't believe it!

I don't understand why they don't make DH a position choice.

i.e. David Ortiz being a DH/1B. The CPU logic is never accurate

Watch, the same code that removed his commentary in '10 will insert him back in for '11.

Good question ... did we get an answer yet?

Very nice work SCEA. Just waiting to hear how online play is and I am sold twice over ...

Hey Russ, any chance that the advertising selections in franchise mode will be placed in the stadium? The deals u make for ad space is different than what shows in the actual stadium....it would be a nice touch
Also any chance users could modify stadium ads ? It would be cool to re create the stadiums perfectly with the real user created ads like coke, & budwiser , etc

I would honestly just like to say being a member of OS and not posting regularly but following knights rosters and the occasional question. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Russ and his staff for those guys hard work year round to make a game that truly speaks to us baseball fans hearts and for never getting the full blown media attention of the more main stream FPS games and MMos and whatnot, you guys are a testament to hard work and dedication and I for one say kudos fellas you have my undying appreciation and gratitude. I'll gladly buy your game year end to give you guys a small contribution to your overall ,and well deserved success and praise.

I've never played The Show before. I've been starving for a great baseball game for years, and I believe my wait is just about over.

I'm yoked.
Congrats and welcome to the family. You are going to be in for a wild ride with this series.

There are baseball games, and then there is The Show!

In the Online Lobbies, will the people that have mics on have a Mic icon beside their name in the lobby?

Also, in online leagues, if you're inside the league at the league menu and have your mic on, will you be able to hear other memebers of the league if they're inside at the league menu too?

Last question, will there still be a mic on/off button, or will the mic stay on in the game if I have my mic on? Also, when willl the mics become active?Hopefully, they will become active at the team selection screen, instead becoming active when the game starts.

It all sounds great, typical SCEA, they always deliver.
I hear you PsychoBulk. It will be hard to wait for release day of The Show. I am hoping for an overhaul of the stats, overlays, ticker etc.

Love The Show!

I hope they make the flashing tomahawk sign at Turner Field work during the right times this year...Last year, it worked during home runs...which was incorrect...it's suppose to work during rallies when the Braves are batting in clutch situations, or after a RBI, Triple etc....

Glad to see they have the boxscore on the bottom of the jumbotron though in the picture....
