MLB 11 The Show News Post

ESPN's Jon Robinson has just posted his MLB 11 The Show first look. Plenty of information here!

Quote:
"Before each swing, you can also try to guess the pitch and location just like last year, as well as choose whether you want to take a normal swing, swing for power, or hit for contact. Hitting for contact is what's new here, as this is more about simply trying to put the bat on the ball and advancing the runners than anything else -- your batter will take a severe power penalty when selecting this option. On top of that, if gamers want an additional challenge at the plate, Sony has also added true zone hitting into the game. Here, hitters can select the option of not only needing to fine-tune the timing of the stride and swing, but will also need to move a cursor onto the ball as it reaches the plate in order to make contact. According to Gill, this is an option the hardcore fans have been wanting for years. "Again, if we were going to do it, we wanted to make sure we did it right," he explains.

In terms of pitching, the meter the game has been using for years has been revamped a bit to incorporate the new controls. Once pitch and location are selected, gamers will pull back on the right analog stick. This causes the ball on the meter to drop toward a line about three-quarters of the way down. As soon as the ball hits the line, the pitcher will then press up on the right stick, but here's the twist -- if your location is on the outside part of the plate to a right handed batter, you'll need to press up and to the right in order to guide the ball into the target that will appear at the top of the meter. This is all about mastering the stick as you'll need to not only time the movements right, but hit your spot. This really adds to the pressure of each pitch. One mistake and you might fire the ball right down the middle, then watch it fly by your head so fast you get virtual whiplash."

I just didn't know if there would have been an issue with this since the new system was totally from button...

Will the game come with a extra pair of underwear? I think I'll need that. Maybe in a collectors edition?

Ramone, can you speak as to whether there are different levels of rain? Meaning, light, moderate, heavy?

And once again, I'm floored by what I am reading. Great, great job.

Will franchise be discussed by any of these early previews (i.e. this week) or will we be waiting to hear how you guys souped it up?

Also, LOVE the fact that we can mix and match button vs analog.

Can anyone give some insight on rock n fire pitching (never played MVP) or on zone hitting?

Will there be an opportunity to hear the new announcing crew in action before the release? Which seems like lightyears away...

This is truly the best time of the year! I love the months leading up to release and then the few days before when everyone is looking for an early copy. December starts the months of anticipation and then months of enjoying the game. I love The Show!!

Exactly! When I was a kid, I started counting down to Christmas the day after Halloween. Now, I start counting down to The Show's release date the moment the first preview is posted.

Today starts the long wait that gets even longer with every new pic, blog, preview, and trailer.

Looks like some nice improvements. Still looks like they have many generic batting stances.

Here was a complaint about MLB 10: The Show that I wrote last year

Great Game! Not a lot of improvement from 09. A little visual/gameplay

Dear the Show Visual designers Team,

If you guys are reading this, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to hear my thoughts/ complaints. The game is great. Great gamplay. VERY realistic hitting/fielding. I really enjoy being able to play my own music saved on the PS3. Im a huge Cincinnati Reds fan. Yes, you probly dont care, but for you guys to make The Show are more realistic game, you should definitely improve the batting stances.

For example, Brandon Phillips second baseman for the Cincinnati Reds has been playing in the league for about 8 years, and has been one of the Reds best players for about 3 years. Yet, dissapointingly, his batting stance is inaccurately portrayed. Not even close. Every time I play with the Reds, I manually change Brandons stance with either David Ortiz or Scott Rolen, just because seeing that "Generic 2" ?? batting stance just annoys me.

I understand it is impossible to get everyone exactly right, and you must have some/many generic batting stances, but it greatly annoys me when Ive been playing the Show for years and Brandon Phillips batting stance is generic year, after year, after year. Next year, OR maybe a Batting stance patch this year, I would really like to see more accurate and updated batting stances. But improving these problems is a way for MLB "The SHOW" to really become the most realistic baseball game, and to ultimately represent its name.

That was my main gripe from MLB 10, but looks like (maybe) that havent even attempted to fix it?

How do you get "many generic stances" out of those few pics on not showing anything?

And these are shots of a way early build.

None of that stuff gets added until towards the end.

Please tell me the NEW additions to Target Field are in...
