With today being the North American release date (and Steam ), lets use this topic for impressions for all 3 platforms. Please limit this to impressions and questions about the game.

UPDATE: Apparently the console version is not being released until tomorrow or even as late as Thursday for some. For those who purchased the PC version off of steam, it has been released and will be unlocked within 2.5 hours to play. I have the game already downloaded on my system, just waiting for the unlock. I will do my best with impressions as soon as the game is unlocked on my PC.

Just wondering if maybe they rushed one version and not the other??
The issue is not with sector times, it's with split times not being there.

Exactly. They need to show an accumulated gap time once a lap. If they gave you race total instead of current lap then it wouldn't even matter if it was 'to the leader' bucause it would be easy enough to compare.

Yes I have used the word sector times when I have meant to use split times to the car in front and behind the car we control. Also times for each sector for the driver in front and behind you compared to your sector times every so often would be a nice touch. I love that graphic during the F1 races. This game fails big time when it comes to immersing me in what an F1 race is. Time and position on track of nearest rivals is so important in racing. Also it would be nice to use point prediction tables during critical points in the race. I love when Speed TV does that.

I'm sorry but this is just not what I was expecting after so many years I really don't see how they are gonna fix these timing issues in a first, second, or third patch.

Anyway to change type od tires you use during the race??? I go in the pits to change from intermediate to prime tyres, and i see no option!!

I assume this is a huge bug in the game, if so any workarounds?? I noticed on the race Im on now around lap 8 or so the AI begins to pit to put on prime tyres as the track is drying out from the light rain. I go in to do the same, and like i said I have no option.

Only thing I can think of is restart the race, set the pit strategy to com/e in on lap 8 for prime tyres. Pray it doesnt start raining again or I;m screwed! Maybe set a strategy for intermediates again at lap 40 or so(56 lap race) just in case??

For now, and it SUCKS but the workaround is race a race in the rain, and remember what lap it stops raining at and AI begins to change tyres. Keep racing, and if it starts raining again etc and AI changes tyres back, write down the lap # again. Do this until you finish the race.

Then! RESTART the race again, setting pit strategies to change to the different types of tyres as needed Cuz I found out by restarting over and over, it wil stop raining at the same time each time.

If you do this, then just pray you dont wreck and have to come in or it will remember ur strategy and replacen tyres for u when u dont want them. Also, hopefull you don't have to change back in forth more than 3 times as u only get to set 3 pit strategies.

There HAS to be a ptch for this ASAP!! The game is virtually unplayable and broken when you're racing in the rain and have to change tyres during the race to compensate for weather changes.

If I am missing something(like the fact I CAN change tyres manually), let me know. Otherwise, I don't see how. Also, if anyone knows of any other way to workaround this, plz lemme know! But for now, what I'm going to have to do for this next race is what i explained.

I'll for now just race with Intermediate, tyres tho wityh strategy set to change to prime tyres at lap 8 with the rest of the field. I haven't gotten any further than that in this race. I'll stick with prime for race of the race if I can(crossing fingers). But if it rains again and I see the AI changing back to Intermediate I'll have to remember the lap #, start all over and set another strategy to go back to intermediate tyres at the lap.

Hope all this makes sense! But it's the only way I see to workaround it right now. This is all career mode btw, race #3

Were is this?? I've hit pause and looked for something like it but I don't see it. What am I missing here?? Plz tell me ur right, if so this will save the game for me when racing in the rain!

You click the D-Pad to change your tire options before your next stop ( its down i believe ), right will change your front wing's position and up will change your throttle mapping.

Yep. You can also set your race strategy from the garage before the race. It can be found under the Tire screen to the left of your car. There you say what tires you want and what laps to come in. Then if you want to go off strategy during the race you use the d-pad to request tires and the pit-in button [red bracket appears above car hud] to ready your team.

The d-pad also allows you to change the wing position twice a lap (regulation). It takes a while to get used to but once you know the clicks it is pretty easy and "-" wing gives you a pretty good boost on a long straight.

I am not sure the engine option is available in career until you have unlocked it through R&D.

Oooh! I knew wat the wing did but guess I didn think to check the tyre thing on there. Thanks a million! They need a tutorial on the game for things lik this, cu the book tells you nothing! Usually a new game has a tutorial I thought?? Thanks again bro!

I love this game. Glad I did not listen to the complainers about the bugs.

So you will love it more when it's patched

The "complainers" are just wanting a product that lives up to the pre release billing. Nothing more. The "complainers" are likely to be F1 enthusiasts who cannot look past some of the bugs that detract from the game. They, we, aren't haters, we just want Code Masters to deliver on their promise to F1 fans.

I'm an avid F1 fan and I feel like they've delivered on what was promised. Of course I want the bugs to be patched as well but some of the complainers (not you, per se) have gone so far to cry fraud, refer to codemasters as liars. Design-wise...I can't think of one area where CM didn't deliver as promised. If the complaints are about the bugs, they've been addressed and they are working on a patch.

This is the most authentic F1 experience I've ever encountered. Bugs or no bugs I can't think of a better F1 game to date. Perhaps some people are expecting GP4 for consoles but that game sold like crap. With the money CM shelled out for this license they need a product that appeals to a wider audience than GP4 ever did. Just the nature of the beast.

Codemasters official forums for the game are an absolute sh*tshow. Some overexuberant complainers with their false claims of fake AI gets the whole place in a frenzy and now I've got to go 4 pages in just to find some useful information on a game that I'm enjoying more than any so far this year. I expected some complaints from F1 diehards because the sport is so technical and complex but the complaining has gone too far.

Well the bugs are a little frustrating.....a lot frustrating if you play full race weekends and spend a lot of time tuning your car and fighting to have a good race, to have a bug screw your entire weekend.

But i'm with ya, i still love this game....its a very good base for an F1 game, I love playing it and can't wait to see what they do with the title in the years to come

Played this again last night, and still having a great time. I find myself just firing the game up to turn laps, and practice. I have the tire mod, the lighting mod, and new car texture mods for the pc, and this game is just a beautiful thing in motion.......... Once they drop the patch, I will start to dive into the career mode.

Fantastic. Scored my first points last night. It took 7 racing into the season but finally at the Turkish GP I managed to qualify 10th in the Virgin.

This was the first Q3 I had made it to and wasn't thinking about tires. I ran my options down raw and then realized I had to start on those things. I made an early pit to take on primes. During the race I got ahead of Hamilton and with my tires running into the yellow he really got close in the last few laps. He was pressing me hard but could never close the deal because I was faster in S2 and could open the gap back up. Finished in 9th and must say it was better than the million of Forza career wins I have.

I love how the AI drive in this game. They don't seem blind to your presence and typically make good moves to overtake. It even seems like they each have a little bit of their own personality.

Having the AI Difficulty set to Legend makes this game awesome. I didn't want to be scoring points as a Lotus in their first season, that isn't right. So now my objective is to beat Trulli (Team Mate) and finish ahead of the 3 new teams. I love it!

I have been racing F1 games since the mid 90's. I am more of a CART guy unfortunately that series is dead (thanks Mr George). Yes there are bugs but this is the best driving model I have raced on any console I have ever had in relation to running lap times that are equivalent to the real times.

I have never been a franchise/career mode guy. I hate them in all sports games because they all stink. I just like gameplay and when it comes to racing games the driving model. When you turn all the assists off and go out there and run some laps the driving model really shines. Great job Codemasters!

I literally spent 3 straight hours running and changing my setup for Sakhir. That has been the first time I spent that many hours tuning a car since NASCAR racing 2003 and F1 challenge mod - Ralph Hummerich 2003 and 2005. Those were PC games. I never thought I would have to do that for a Console racer.

Yeah that was the first track. However I love running laps by myself tuning my car to get the fastest lap possible with the best car control possible for every corner.

This is what I would do for online play. I was primarily an online racer for many years and if you wanted to keep a reputation for being a good clean (no little mistakes that wreck the field) winning online driver, you had to practice and make your car not only fast but stable in every corner. Whether it be NASCAR or F1. The only way to get to that point is with lots of practice. For offline racing this is really not needed. I was in a lot of competitive leagues against guys who were very good and put in the same amount of time.

I think the assists allow you to play the game any way you want without having to put in a lot of work and time into it while still allowing others who enjoy doing so a racing model that offers that level of difficulty to actually have to master.

I actually didnt see myself doing practice for more than few laps just to learn the track ( started career on short race weekend ).....after the first week I realized I better start learning how to tune my car and one hour wasnt gonna be enough practice time for me to do that....so I switched to full race weekend, and I actually have a lot of fun grinding out laps in practice and working on my setup.....it really feels rewarding to get a point finish when you work so hard on your setup during practice. This is literally the first racing game i've played where i dont wanna spike my controller if i dont win the race....haha
