Yeah, besides losing the glossy effect from last year, I dont really see the big improvement in graphics...but hey im not a graphics guy in the first place....All I know is I put in Live 10 right after playing the demo, my eyes had to adjust to that POP Live 10 gives off...noticably lacking from Elite IMO...That was part of Lives appeal to me...

The whole game just seems dull in general...If this were a one off game...like a pick up basketball game or something to that effect, itd be great...I think thats why EASBA (I think thats what it is) will be so fun\appealing....The control gives you a chance to see some rare creativity and individuality in the game... making for some legit pick up ball experiences...

From a NBA standpoint though.....just horribly generic....and the thing is, this was expected and I was still caught off guard. I know the WOW factor was supposed to be the "feel", and it feels great in some spots....but how much pride can I have in controlling some of these weird looking moves? Sure, the fact I completely controlled it is GREAT, but its like having full contol over a Pinto sometimes...

i dont know if every1 noticed but u have to change the ball into the appropiate hand each time u go a different direction. if ur back is turned to the basket in the paint, u have to actually turn around or move ur guy towards the rim. u dont magically turn or animate towards it.

cant wait for some great competitive teamplay games. if people would be patient and get the controls down, it could be alot of fun.
heck this is fun for real the controls make it better when u get the hang of it moved up to all-star gonna try superstar tomorrow if u got and 360 hit me up gt BMGOFF

There's no denying that the more you play the game, the more you understand it, get more comfortable with and can see the potential the game truly has.

But, it's just the AI and animations that really need work. As someone said, kind of looks like it's a beta demo. That's ok though as the potential is definitely here.

Getting the controls down early was tough but once you have them, it's very rewarding. As above, most other areas are rough. Graphics are not poor. Seems the broadcast camera is a little too zoomed out and looks much better zoomed in. I think what gives the graphics a dour look are the skin textures as they are fairly bland.

So, the more you play the better the experience becomes but it doesn't excuse the poor AI and animations. I'm sick of seeing that hitchy rebounding animation and players passing behind them without turning at all.

Major potential but I just can't find any reasons to drop hard earned coin on a game that is 2 years off. I will continue to play the demo and will give it a rent after the patches. I understand that's why they may have included NBA Jam but I will grab that on the Wii for now. For now, Elite has promise but it's just not ready.

LOL! great post man and I completely understand where you are coming from, I feel the same way a lot of times. I continue to play the game though for some reason even with all of its obvious faults.

For some reason the game is still fun for me despite everything I'm seeing.

What they got here is a good engine to build a 1-1 game from.

The five on five tho looks looks years away from being good.
Fast breaks are terrible .
Players don't seem to move right.

It seems like there is an automatic lil burst of speed, IF, you can beat the defender off the dribble.. I also found that if your close to the paint and want to attempt a layup or dunk move toward the hoop, Hit the LT button as you get close to the paint and push up on the right stick, your player will do a step through move, which seems a lil quicker than a regular dribble, and he will go in for a layup. That seems to help get by defenders a lil quicker.
OHH AND oOausarOo, me living in packer country I have to agree...Browns In the super bowl..just not this year. GO BROWNS!!!!!

just tried the demo. it isn't as bad as a lot of the people have been saying it is, but IMO, it's not good either. if you don't take the time to learn the controls, of course, you're not gonna like it. very steep learning curve this year, but once i started getting the hang of it, the control felt pretty good, but only when i had the ball. the control on defense really needs some work. i just felt like when i move my player, his momentum would carry him way too much and i would just totally be nowhere near my guy, giving him an open jumper or a clear path to the basket.
i saw way too many over the back rebounds, and even with the over the backs, it was as if their was hardly any contact when it happened and obviously, no fouls called.
the main thing that turned me off though has to be the graphics, player models and animations. didn't like the looks of the players, and the overall look of the game looks as if it were 2008 again.
sometimes i'd take a long jumper and it would look like the ball just goes through the basket instead of in, and also, when i see a guy jump for a rebound, the animation just does not look the way it should and bothers me everytime i see it.
not everything about the game was bad, i mean, even after all the little quirks and stuff i didn't like, i still kept playing it because i wanted to get better at the controls, because the more i played it, the more i liked that aspect of the game, example- you hear guys talk about the ballhandler strafing a lot but you yourself have to crossover on your own to keep from having him strafe like that and i like that about the game.
to sum up the demo for me, if EA takes this next year and works on nothing but graphics, animations and AI, Elite 12 should be a hell of a game, but i just don't think Elite 11 is gonna appeal to a lot of people w/o the visuals being where they should be in 2010.
(i apologize in advance, seems like i was everywhere in that post lol.)

I have to disagree changing of speed is an important aspect of play in the NBA the players that can do it the best have a clear advantage, the fact that Artest can catch Rondo in this game is not a good thing the controls a re not good enough where pushing hard in one direction is giving fast players an advantage.

HOME and AWAY playcalling is set to manual by default. When I turned it on, CPU went into attack mode with a true emphasis on playing BASKETBALL.

It still doesnt discount the fact I have crappy teammates due to their AI being bad, but I;m finding some gems in the gameplay

If it was complete it would have the online mode, it doesn't which makes neither one the complete version.

I have been playing some more tonight (ps3) and I played quite a bit last night and I am just surprised at how much I don't like this game. I loved Live last year, but this game is a BIG step back.

There are a lot of things that I don't like and really not to much that I do. This game was really going to have to impress me in order for me to buy it because of the lack of ability to play a shorter season, and it is safe to say that I am not conflicted like last year when I ended up just buying both. I should be happy that I don't have to spend $130 on NBA Basketball games this year, but I am really upset with this offering.

I hope this is their foundation and next year is better.

My thoughts exactly. Nothing to get over, you think its the complete version while I see it different, simple as that.

i agree with the players sort of steering

All day I read terrible things about this game.
I dreaded coming home, downloading the demo, and playing it.
People made the graphics sound bad, the controls too weird, and compared it way too much to the competition.
It is a totally different game, and may not be as sim as people would like, but it's fun. it's different!
The graphics may not be stellar, but i'm hoping they'll be sharper in the retail version.
The controls are tough to master, but very rewarding...especially when you sink that first jumper.
I started with the "Become Legendary" mode. Very similar to the competition's "My Player" mode, from what the demo portrayed, anyway.
I got a 3.3/10 score, 29th in the draft. It told me I could import my place in the draft in the retail version...and I'm going to! i can't wait to see who drafts me!
I then played the 4th Q of Lakers/Celtics. It will take some getting used to, I couldn't do all the things I was used to doing at the drop of a hat. I still don't know how to get around defenders with the crossovers, etc. But it was fun.
The new commentators were refreshing. We really needed something new.
And the presentation was great. Not stellar, but better. NBA on ESPN music playing was nice to hear in an EA game.
All in all, they took a step in the right direction. I will buy this game, and like it!
I hope anyone that was hesitant to download the demo before reading this will at least give it a try. It's worth it, and it might surprise you.

I'm back to post my top 3 wooow moment the RTP is amazing!!!!

1 I'm down by 1, 3 seconds left. I call a TO, give it to pierce, pump fake artest jumps, I go for the easy layup (I think) bynum SMASHES my ball off the backboard, garnett gets the ball (he thinks ) gasol deflects it, THEN the ball ends near ray ray 1 second left he goes for it with basket in his back I shoot, he throws a turnaround learner buzzzeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer the ball hitting the inside of the rim like a flipper ball and ......IT'S IN WOOOOOOOOOOOW I won I won ( I was jumping like a fool lol)

2 Still with the C, kobe blows by me (in all star or superstar he's a demon hitting fadeway and all lol) he goes for the dunk, I switch to Jermaine I go for the block but kobe is to my left so i think '"damn here come the poster" but Jermaine adjusts his block attempt and SWAPS kobe with his left hand then he lands on somebody and fall on the ground O_O, Rondo gets the ball I pass it to ray ray he's slightly ahead fisher so I think "here comes the self alley oop" I throw it off the back board but fisher catches me and ray ray reacts with him and can't go for the dunkn THEN out of nowhere there comes garnett he jumps and Throws is down HARD with 2 hand on Fisher who can only protect himself (again jumping like a fool)

3 Ron Ron beat me off the dribble and nobody is around the basket but Rondo, I switch to him and try to foul ron ron by jumping in him, but he does the mike miller dunk where he barely jumps and POSTERIZES rondo who is not strong enough, Rondo jumped, and........got PULVERISED BY RON RON LIKE A TRUCK O_O and ended on the floor... Poor Rondo..........

I played the long awaited demo - my thoughts:

The Good:
  • The demo itself is solid. Alot to do - alot to digest. kudos to EA for putting themselves outher like that.
  • The presentation - top notch. That stuff matters to me.
  • The audio - good stuff.
  • The graphics - I actually like them. The detail could be much better - but I have always been partial to EA graphics.
  • The Gamplay was solid - if not spectacular.
  • Be a Legend mode - something i could definitely get into.

The not so good:
  • I thought the off the ball movement was much better last year. Players seemed a little to static for me.
  • The CPU used the hop step at least 5 or 6 times each game I played(on AllStar). That seemed like an awful lot and kinda cheap.
  • The speed of the game - way to fast(as previosuly said). i am hoepful aslider can address this.
  • Something about rebounding didn't seem "right" - alittle scripted if you will.
  • My defender seemed awfuly slow on defense. I feel with little to no momentum in this game I will be at the mercy of the cPU one on one. This was the one thing I HATED about NBA2K10 - it dissapoints me to see it here.

The just plain "I don't like it"
  • The controls don't feel natural or intuiative. I know - I know it will take practice..but I expected something more user friendly. It just seems like an odd strategy for a game that's already a few steps behind it's competitor to make controls with such a steep learning curve. It's a tough sell to have people make the switch.
  • I played for an hour straight - I didn't see or notice any real physics at all. That was a big selling point for me and I din't feel or see any difference in how players react as opposed to past iterations of this same game. Again - I was just expecting "more."

That's all I got. I tried to be as constructive as I could. I wish you well Elite team - I will be definitely pulling for you.

I have the same problem if I'm on a fastbreak or in full sprint the controls work well but in a one on one situation I couldn't even blow by Gasol with Rondo and that's not good. Maybe I need more work with the controls, I played a lot of user vs user games so I'll see what happens when I play against the cpu some more. This game just doesn't demonstrate the speed and quickness of the game well, something I think is done better in both Live 10 and the 2k demo.

yeah passing is terrible. I don't like the RT/R2 being the pass button, especially since its very inconsistent but at the same time icon and freestyle passing is delayed and doesn't pass the ball quick enough.

I wish EA decided not to release a game this year and instead took another year to really implement everything they wanted. I'm excited to see where this game is next year but this year there is just too much missing, it just seems dull.
