NBA Elite 11 News Post

NBA ELITE 11 is back with the first of two gameplay videos featuring 5 on 5 action. This video is a user vs. user matchup with NBA ELITE Gameplay Producer Novell Thomas taking on NBA Community Manager Yaw Obiri-Yeboah (also known as blackflash83 on the forums) . The game is being played on a Pre-final build with some tuning left to do but it provides a good representation of how the game will play once you developed your skills with the new Hands-On control.

Be sure to check out some of the quick plays being called during half court offensive sequences (press X on the 360 to begin a quick play or the Square button on PS3) and the importance of playing the passing lanes as balls can get deflected. You have complete control this year in NBA ELITE 11.

First, let me preface this by saying:

· Yes, $65.00 is a lot of money right now
· You have a right to be critical where your money is concerned
· Different isn’t always better
· Lastly, let’s all join in the mantra of “If the shoe fits…”

Huge generalization alert- please refer to #4 bullet point.

You guys are the most nit-pickinist, over-analyzingist, never satisfiedinist group of video game spoiled brats I have ever encountered. The 45 minutes I have spent reading this post are gone forever never to be recovered. In this time I have narrowed the consensus to this;

· Too generic looking
· Not pretty enough
· Poor animations

All the info we have received up to now has expressed what the dev’s were focusing on this cycle, still all I read was how “disappointed” everyone was with the video. The Dev’s have been saying all along “You gotta play the Demo,” know what, I am going to wait and play the demo. After that, two possible outcomes; I like it and buy it, I don’t like and don’t buy it.

Why don’t we all take this approach instead of dissecting every little nuance of a 5 minute gameplay clip ad nauseum.

Live = Elite = footage you were just watching. Just to be clear.

Ok everybody be quiet and don't talk about the game until the demo comes out.

My final rant on this game and it's future of series. Being critical on a game due to previews or video, it's really hard to make 100 percent accurate statements.

But I think primarily one of the issues with this game, is the fact that the camera angle sucks! And I mean sucks!

When previewing a game, you are to showcase it using the primary camera angle that everyone usually uses! And that is broadcast, I'm sure that 95% or more of the consumers play on other camera angles, than the one displayed in this video. A couple of things I'm also looking passed, is the lack of presentation. Seems they turned the replays or something off, because I didn't see one during gameplay!

Also looks to be on arcade mode or something, lack of drawn fouls or anything that seem like pro-basketball. I'm also going to have to just except the fact, that the Electronics Arts doesn't care about accurate animations, because as in the football titles, there is always something that just gives the player models awkward movements and stiff movements. And Elite 11 is no exception, jumpshots, layups, crossovers, etc. Have looked the same since Live 06 and in 5 years haven't progressed at all.

But every year, I supported them hoping for the best! If not for Marcus Stephenson, Joe Stallings, etc. Over the past years, I wouldn't have stayed around this long. Also I think Blackflash, and Stepsix intentions are great and I know the guys want a good game, but keep overlooking a few elements are highly important to basketball. And the key to all hoops sims / games is player movement and fluidity.

And this game just lacks fluid movement, everyone is so stiff and their bodies don't move like real ball players. I know if this game has been motion captured, there is no way anyone moves like that, somewhere in animation transitions, shortcuts are taken and it's ruining the overall look of the game.

Will I buy Elite 11? Most likely because I've bought every game since the beginning. But as a consumer and long-term supporter, I must say this will not get a next-year and not right now pass from me. This is getting a fix it in a later patch even if it's 2 gigs....add in elements that scream basketball. Or I'm officially done!!!

Killing off my NCAA Series for this type of advancement to the NBA is absolutely heartbreaking to me right now. I apologize for being so harsh, but everyone at OS, knows how much crap I took from 2k fans and guys that were bashing EA into the ground for the last few years, and I got kicked the teeth consistently backing you guys up and trying to waiver support.

But even now, I'm at a sigh* on where to go from here. For now I'm disappointed. Just seems like you went backwards, when Live 10 was almost perfect.

Yea I enjoyed it after watching it a few times. I started picking up on the improvements from last year especially when it concerns the defensive side of the ball.

I think a lot of you are being too critical. Yes, I understand that you're tired of hearing the same things from EA each year and from what we've seen so far, it's a disappointment. However, I don't think the video is as bad as many of you are saying. My montage that I created and posted a few pages back displays some pretty minor things if you think about it. Many things I think could be fixed before launch (I hope...)

I have faith in this crew to make a solid game, not only this year, but in the next few years. Why do I say that? After visiting and chatting with these devs, they WANT to create the experience many of us want, they do care. It all comes down to them being able to work on the game consistently for at least a 3-year cycle. With this control foundation, things can only get better, and I'm excited for the future.

Those of you who are saying Live 10 was a solid, nearly perfect game, I'm sorry but I just don't see it at all. Don't base your opinion of this game merely on videos of other people playing. Get the demo, then decide whether or not it's worth the purchase. Besides, that's what the devs and other members have been saying for the past few months.

Well that your route and good luck with that. You have your opinion and we have ours. As long as the goal of the developers is to sell this product to us consumers, we retain the right "nit-pick" on what we see as perceived flaws. It's kind of the right of the consumers. With that being said, the fact that it took you 45 min to realize the consensus of this is quite disappointing.

Um the announcers are from espn, the overlays, and banners are all from espn. Espn is in the game.

Weather or not they could have added more things from espn is diffrent

Not impressed ,but lucky for me I wasn't expecting to be. This is a major overhaul for EA and usually these take time.

Players are to stiff. Game play has potential to really be organic but didnt really see it. Commentary is seriously lacking. And players look to awkward doing routine things. I just do see enough of the RTP in this game to justify all the other issue.

I do like the court-spacing and off-ball stuff.

Yup you arent alone. I liked it too. I just want to see the user playing the ai. But I liked the control that I saw. I think if they can work on some of the traveling from the sliding that jennings was doing it will be fine. I loved the post work and i did like the jennings lay up and the gallianari jump shot play. I am waiting on the demo to give a better judgement and some news on sub patterns and dynasty mode.

Hmmm. Thought the good outweighed the bad in that video. Some really good things and saw some bad. Nothing major. Overall it was a pretty good video. I might be the minority. Can't wait for the second video today.

No you are not alone!
But people who like to complain and hate have more energy to do so compared to people who are content.
That is human behavior.

yup....Im with both u and sporty.....I liked it.....The only thing that made me angry about Live 10 was the warping and the canned animations.....I still play live 10 till this very day since it released. I will definitely be playin Elite a lot more since these issues have been addressed. ( And no im not a FANBOY in case some ppl wonder) lol

# 298 wbranson1 @ 09/02/10 01:58 PM
its a VIDEO GAME.... everything cant be realistic!... yeah its only one video so cant really say much! NBA LIVE 10 had its moments of unrealisticness but was still fun to play! I will check out the demo and decide! but i will probably buy this game unless the demo lets me down! cant wait to try out the demo since thats all i played last year until the release of NBA Live 10 LOL

True, this is the route I chose. Me personally, I think 45 minutes to go through a 35 page post is pretty good. Anyway, bottom line is we have 2 NBA games to choose from with drastically different approaches to the game. If you can only buy one, then buy the one that best represents NBA basketball to "YOU."

The nature of most of these criticisms are trivial at best. Every game has flaws, misrepresentations of fundamentals, and WTF moments. NHL 10 is a great game but it has a number of those elements I stated above. It appears that the expectations are not in line with the capabilities of the Dev crew at this time. This is a fact they themselves have addressed.

My earlier post was an expression of exasperation at the countless number of posts that slammed this gameplay video for presentation issues when it was stated early on by the developers that this was not the focus of this year's iteration.

If this is a deal breaker for you, then you have a choice as a consumer where to spend your money. Constructive criticism is appreciated by the dev's I'm sure, but some of the posts here are just meant to discredit and devalue the work put in by these guys. And as a IT developer myself,(Information systems, not Games) I kind of take offense at the tenor of some these so called criticisms in the name of consumerism.
