NBA Elite 11 News Post

OS'ers jtdribbles25, 23 and Jano have posted their impressions of NBA Elite 11, from their hands-on time with the game at the Boost Mobile Elite 24 Event.

23 has posted a ton of video from the game on his Youtube channel. I just wanted to gather all of the videos together on one page, to make it easier to find and view.

We appreciate all the work 23, as well as the impressions, all 3 of you have given us.

To view the rest of them (17 in total), head over to 23's Youtube Channel, right here.

Would it look pretty in real life or in a game...no, but that would be your choice, a stupid one but still yours. You would only see it if you or some cheesehead online tried to do it, would you be successful at it.... probably not

And with games now I can dribble in circles at half court and heave the ball up from there all game long, is that something you see watching a real game on t.v... no, so should conrtol to do that be taken away also.
So even though you will NEVER see something like that happen in REAL life. It's ok for a so called SIM to do it for the sake of control? So is it simulating what would happen in the real sport with a specific player or a person's imagination?

umm I dont think people would do it if they know that it wont work

Okay, this conversation is just going in circles.

I don't get why you guys can't understand each other. It seems pretty obvious what both sides are saying.

Let me sum it up.

Full Control. Being able to do what you want when you want, with in the limits of the players skill of course.

Sim. Players don't try or probably never even think about trying to do something they know they're incapable of. So this should be represented in the game, where the player should be incapable of such moves.

Now, rEAnimator all ready said players wont be able to attempt dunks from anywhere or attempt a dunk if there incapable in real life.

So I say let's leave it at that, and wait for the demo to drop so we can see what this game has to offer gameplay wise.

Wow! I was planning on buying both NBA games this year, but those videos do not look good. Honestly, they look terrible. I hope the demo changes my opinion of the game.

Eh... will reserve judgement for demo.

Let me clarify my issue, one last time. I want control within boundaries of their real-life counterpart. No players dunking that you don't see dunk, no players dribbling between their legs, that don't do so in a NBA game.

Now that's out of the way... Here's my issue. I don't like the contextual shots that happen in proximity to the rim. Yes, you choose the type of shot - but how often do you see Nowitzki shooting a regular jumpshot 3 foot from the basket? I think the game should adapt to the location you are and regardless of the type of shot you attempt, a realistic animation attempt play out. Look at the following clip. Shots like this are what has plagued this franchise for years.

Well its realistic to me. I mean everyone says they want sim. Sim just stands short for Simulation, contextual shots simulate real life basketball. In real life you slow down before you pull up for a jumper you don't just keep running. Maybe they could just tone it down if its too overdone.

But that's kinda the users fault cause he could went for a right or left handed layup right there but he chose not to.

# 389 HoosierDaddy @ 09/01/10 11:22 AM
you would shoot a normal jump shot leaning into the basket with a 7 foot big man? I know it's user-controlled and he chose that animation. My point is, the shot should change depending on your location to the rim.

But my point is, that's not the games fault, If they would of did the input for a left handed or right handed layup they wouldn't have gotten that animation. That's just from the user not knowing how to play.

I watch alot of basketball, and yea Dirk wouldn't take that shot because he's knowledgeable enough about the game to know better, the user was not

I agree, but the game takes a hit when things like this don't play out realistically for someone who picks up the controller and has no idea how to play. Wouldn't you think it'd be nicer to have the correct type of shot depending on the situation regardless? If you want more variety, use the sticks, but at least have the proper shot of a basic animation.

To quote the infamous Bill Walton, "Terrible, just terrible."

Yea I agree with you on this. This is not something that will bother people that are playing but for those that may be watching it creates a wtf!! moment.

And for some people it only takes a few of those for them to just give up on the game. Case in point my cousin got to play the Elite along with me and was already giving up on the game after seeing some unrealistic stuff.

And he also didn't like the decision for all stick control either so it would be in EA's best interest to definitely clean that up. If only to keep the people interested in the game for a little longer. It'll save them a lot especially when it comes to the casual fan.

If this wasn't about sales it would be fine but these companies are trying to make money too, so they have to make sure they appeal to all types of fans.

Lol thanks I'm just trying to look at things from all angles. I for one don't mind the animations as I said in the other thread.

But I'm not just going to brush off complaints with the game just because of that. I think everyone here raises some good points and they should be acknowledged as so.

i used to feel this way. but now that ive seen the control i want it to stay as is. In real life if im two feet from the basket and i take a jumpshot thats because i wanted to or that was my choice for the situation.

so in the game to know that i have the ability to choose lay up or jump shot almost anywhere on the floor gives me the same options as real life.

why would someone choose to shoot a 3 ft jumpshot? I get the control side of it guys, I'm speaking from a realistic standpoint and what you actually see in basketball.
