NCAA Football 11 News Post

After the frenzy this morning, EA has posted details on the patch. This is the official blog that will be out soon on the EA site. LTP #2 is also needed for the patch to have the full effect. It is available as of 9:10am eastern.

-----------------------------------------

Hello again NCAA Fans!

I'm Russ Kiniry and I'd like to welcome you to Client Update 2 for NCAA Football 11. You should be able to download the update now (it will automatically download when you start the game). Roy talked about this update coming a while back in his blog 'Thank You' and I brought it up again when we released Live Tuner Pack 1 last week. I am happy to finally say it is here, and we've got a long list of tweaks, tunes, and fixes. Many of these changes were requests straight from you, the fans of NCAA Football, so it was very important to us to get them in the update. Enough words, let's get to the list!

Graphics
  • Uniform degradation has been fixed.
  • Fixed a graphical issue with TeamBuilder sideline home uniforms.
  • Fixed several camera bugs (pulled back on field goals, blurry cameras, and replays after a change of possession)
  • Fixed helmet numbers for Rice and Wake Forest
Online
  • Resolved an issue with Season Showdown, allowing us to turn it back on, so you're upload failure message every time you go in/out of game is gone!
  • Fixed a couple freezes related to lobbies
  • Fixed voice communication in Online Dynasty Hub on PS3
  • Fixed an issue that could lead to a disconnect in online play during play calling
Offense
  • Fixed an issue on a couple plays where the QB would miss a hand off and run backward
  • Reduced the chance that the ball will be knocked out when a receiver is hit at the time of the catch
  • Tuned the CPU ball carrier so that they will break to the outside more often when appropriate
  • Tuned how the CPU ball carriers utilize leans and special moves so that they won't be used in situations when they shouldn't (e.g. a HB in the open field will not put his shoulders down when running forward)
  • Tuned pass accuracy and the ability to lead a receiver
  • Tweaked sideline catch animations in the end zone so that they have a bit more room to play
  • Fixed an exploit where backwards passes could be overly effective
Defense
  • Fixed defensive reaction to pump fake to be more balanced. Skilled defensive backs will not be as easily fooled by pump fakes.
  • Tuned the Aggressive Defensive Line Gameplan to have more risk of jumping offsides
  • Removed a hesitation from defensive lineman pass rush on screen plays
  • Improved flat zone and deep zone coverage
  • Tuned man coverage reaction to the run
  • Adjusted CPU pursuit angles in some specific cases where they weren't being aggressive enough
Special Teams
  • Tuned onside kicks to be less predictable
  • Fixed an issue where catching a kicked ball after hitting the goalpost would result in kicking team getting the ball back
  • Fixed an issue where the punter could line up out of place
  • Adjusted cross bar collision on field goals and extra points
Other
  • Tuned CPU clock management where they would let the clock run out in some cases they shouldn't
  • Fixed a bug with time of possession tracking
  • Adjusted substitutions to be more intelligent (previously would see some weird players in the game with lots of aggressive no huddle)
  • Fixed a couple places where the wrong custom stadium sounds would play
  • Fixed a bug that caused Road To Glory to be simulated day by day near the end of the season
  • Tuned Kick Power and Kick Accuracy of progression of kickers and punters in Dynasty Mode
  • Fixed a couple infrequent game lock-ups

Again, I want to thank you for providing us with all the feedback you have thus far, and encourage you to continue to do so. It's safe to say this is the biggest update in NCAA History. We wanted to be sure that we continue to improve your experience while playing NCAA Football 11, so this update touches almost every area of the game. You can look forward to more Live Tuner Packs for NCAA Football 11 in the near future.

This update is for you Mr. Passionate-NCAA-Football-Gamer.

I can't imagine keeping the game unless this is corrected. Was hoping patch #2 would fix this. The defensive aggression sliders don't seem to even come into play on 3rd downs.
It,s either that or the CPU will go into some weird 3deep leave the middle of the feild wide open zone on third down..

Anyway I have not seen this happen at all, it maybe your system not the game.
Yeah I do... On a brand spankin' new 360 S too.

Today I played for about 45 in practice mode and it didn't "hang" on me once.

I'm starting to think the stadium played in matters most, because I've tried using the default unnamed rosters and also Fairdale's named rosters... And it didn't seem to make a difference...

But there are games where it will "hang" more than others...

Eh... Who knows... It's not close to being any sort of game killer for me. Though yes, it'd be nice if it didn't happen.

One other thing that I may try: playing with my system not connected online. I don't know if EA has set up some sort of feedback delivery system for this game... But if so maybe it's contributing to this problem.

edit: Nope, taking my system offline didn't help. In the first quarter the system "hang" was still there.

My war...
You're one of them, you say...
That you're my friend
But you're... One of them.

I'm noticing this too... Especially with the slot receiver essentially being ignored by the AI...

If you have a post pattern called with a slot receiver it's uh... Pretty much money...

Even without the blitz it seems to work too well.

Since patch two the only complaint I have is that about twice a game my defensive backs will go to swat a pass they should easily get and they will miss. Usually turns into a TD for the cpu. Is it just me or is anyone else having this problem to?

Now that we have Dirty Uni's, the game has gone completely sour. I played last night and it was just boring. What did EA do?????

Where are the over thrown passes?

Backward Pump fakes = automatic TD?

The game feels soooo much like Madden, and that is not a good thing since you can complete passes while facing in the opposite direction in that game. Just glad you can't break a million tackles tho.

The number one thing I want back is the overthrown passes, that alone made the game feel authentic.

If you're doing an offline dynasty, you can change the tendencies of the teams...there's a great thread about coaching sliders...they work in the sliders forum.

You can chanage the aggressiveness as per their real life tendencies. Air Force for example runs 85% of the time, and blitzes 25% of the time...you can change that, and do that for every team in the game in your dynasty...someone has a spreadsheet in the thread that actually breaks down what the run/pass slider should be and the aggressiveness on D.

I played 3 games in my dynasty, and I've seen 15 1 man blitzes, 6 2 man blitzes, and 2 all out blitzes in 3 games...so the slider does work.

change the QB Accuracy slider...I'm playing with 10 (some play with it at 5)...and I'm seeing poorly thrown balls by me...and the CPU missed a WIDE WIDE Open WR who beat my press coverage by 20 yards.

i still have not seen dirty uniforms in a brand new offline dynasty. am i missing something? does it have to be raining? i played a game in the snow and everything was pristine. does the field type matter? so if i'm playing on outdoor turf, will they not get dirty regardless of the weather?

From what I've read yes. You need to be playing on real grass and in bad weather.

Things that got adjusted by the patch on All American that might need tweaking if you want to bring the game back to the way it played (my opinion of course).
  1. I think the human pass rush got a boost in the patch. I'm toning it down slightly.
  2. I think both human and cpu rushing games got downgraded due to better pursuit. I think we'll definitely have to boost cpu run block.
  3. I haven't seen a big difference in QB accuracy. I still see bad throws and have not seen robo QB at all.
  4. I think pass coverage is looser, specifically man to man coverage, post patch. I actually like it like this.
  5. I haven't seen a difference in WR catching or INTs. I still see leaping LBs so I really don't notice much difference in the big guys toned down but it's not terrible either. Not touching this area.
  6. I think kickers got a good boost all around in power and accuracy. I'd suggest knocking down sliders at least one notch in all categories to balance it out. It's hard to test because practice conditions don't carry over perfectly to the game but it's something I've noticed while playing in my dynasty.

That's not entirely true. I played a game of my SDSU offline dynasty last night @ New Mexico St. It was on grass surface and the weather was completely clear and the unis did get dirty, along with the helmet scuffs.

Won on a last-second FG, 24-21. I am still amazed that I can play default Heisman and get very realistic scores and play. Game is a blast.

I saw about 5 overthrows last night. Of course, I was San Diego State playing New Mexico State (offline dynasty), but they were definitely there. This was on default Heisman.

I think the pump fake glitch counters the man2man cheese. It makes people use more of their playback rather than the same few plays and Yes, it it can be stopped.

If they can just balance so the defense bits according to aggressiveness and ratings, this would be fine as long as it keeps the playcall varied for people who use the man2man cheese.

I have acually had better games because of the glitch. No more overrated defensive man2man schemes.

I've gotten helmet scuffs and some scuffed up uniforms on field turf, but, no real mud & dirt unless you're on the real stuff.

I have definitely seen this. Man to man coverage, especially on short post routes, has me being picked apart. I like it too because I have to play more short zones, but it seems like deep zone coverage is still sort of weak, especially if you can't get pressure on the QB. I suppose that is realistic... if a QB has all day eventually WR's will get open, but it's frustrating when WR's are WIDE open near the sidelines in Cover 3, but scorch your DBs over the middle on Cover 2 man press.

Now, is it the TUNER SET or the PATCH that actually changed the gameplay? Can you delete the tuner set to get the gameplay like it was before if that was your preference? Just curious...

Yeah and it only takes about 20 minutes or so to change all teams so it really does not take that long. Anything I can do to make it more realistic I am going to do.

Been a problem for me too...especially on the tight rope sideline catches. No matter what I do, it seems once the CPU goes into that animation, the ball WILL hit his hands.
