NCAA Football 11 News Post

After the frenzy this morning, EA has posted details on the patch. This is the official blog that will be out soon on the EA site. LTP #2 is also needed for the patch to have the full effect. It is available as of 9:10am eastern.

-----------------------------------------

Hello again NCAA Fans!

I'm Russ Kiniry and I'd like to welcome you to Client Update 2 for NCAA Football 11. You should be able to download the update now (it will automatically download when you start the game). Roy talked about this update coming a while back in his blog 'Thank You' and I brought it up again when we released Live Tuner Pack 1 last week. I am happy to finally say it is here, and we've got a long list of tweaks, tunes, and fixes. Many of these changes were requests straight from you, the fans of NCAA Football, so it was very important to us to get them in the update. Enough words, let's get to the list!

Graphics
  • Uniform degradation has been fixed.
  • Fixed a graphical issue with TeamBuilder sideline home uniforms.
  • Fixed several camera bugs (pulled back on field goals, blurry cameras, and replays after a change of possession)
  • Fixed helmet numbers for Rice and Wake Forest
Online
  • Resolved an issue with Season Showdown, allowing us to turn it back on, so you're upload failure message every time you go in/out of game is gone!
  • Fixed a couple freezes related to lobbies
  • Fixed voice communication in Online Dynasty Hub on PS3
  • Fixed an issue that could lead to a disconnect in online play during play calling
Offense
  • Fixed an issue on a couple plays where the QB would miss a hand off and run backward
  • Reduced the chance that the ball will be knocked out when a receiver is hit at the time of the catch
  • Tuned the CPU ball carrier so that they will break to the outside more often when appropriate
  • Tuned how the CPU ball carriers utilize leans and special moves so that they won't be used in situations when they shouldn't (e.g. a HB in the open field will not put his shoulders down when running forward)
  • Tuned pass accuracy and the ability to lead a receiver
  • Tweaked sideline catch animations in the end zone so that they have a bit more room to play
  • Fixed an exploit where backwards passes could be overly effective
Defense
  • Fixed defensive reaction to pump fake to be more balanced. Skilled defensive backs will not be as easily fooled by pump fakes.
  • Tuned the Aggressive Defensive Line Gameplan to have more risk of jumping offsides
  • Removed a hesitation from defensive lineman pass rush on screen plays
  • Improved flat zone and deep zone coverage
  • Tuned man coverage reaction to the run
  • Adjusted CPU pursuit angles in some specific cases where they weren't being aggressive enough
Special Teams
  • Tuned onside kicks to be less predictable
  • Fixed an issue where catching a kicked ball after hitting the goalpost would result in kicking team getting the ball back
  • Fixed an issue where the punter could line up out of place
  • Adjusted cross bar collision on field goals and extra points
Other
  • Tuned CPU clock management where they would let the clock run out in some cases they shouldn't
  • Fixed a bug with time of possession tracking
  • Adjusted substitutions to be more intelligent (previously would see some weird players in the game with lots of aggressive no huddle)
  • Fixed a couple places where the wrong custom stadium sounds would play
  • Fixed a bug that caused Road To Glory to be simulated day by day near the end of the season
  • Tuned Kick Power and Kick Accuracy of progression of kickers and punters in Dynasty Mode
  • Fixed a couple infrequent game lock-ups

Again, I want to thank you for providing us with all the feedback you have thus far, and encourage you to continue to do so. It's safe to say this is the biggest update in NCAA History. We wanted to be sure that we continue to improve your experience while playing NCAA Football 11, so this update touches almost every area of the game. You can look forward to more Live Tuner Packs for NCAA Football 11 in the near future.

This update is for you Mr. Passionate-NCAA-Football-Gamer.

Glad you finally gave Heisman a try, Rudy. I told you that Heisman was a challenge, but not in a cheap way like in the past. I'm on default and loving it. Just had a crazy game in my FSU Dynasty. Beat Virginia in OT 20-17. UVA is that one team that I just struggle against. I threw 3 INTs (all my fault) and the CPU ran for nearly 200 yards against me.

I managed to run back a kickoff and scored on a screen pass late to tie it up, then in OT forced and recovered a fumble after having kicked a FG to go up 3. Great game.

I know some people have issues with NCAA after the latest patch but honestly, I don't see anything wrong with the game. I am loving NCAA this year and am very happy with all aspects of the game.

With the right sliders this is one of the most enjoyable football games I have played, and the patch has made it even stronger.

My only problem is with the CPU not using the clock realistically. If only they occasionally made an effort to run the clock and snap the ball late in the play clock it would make such a huge difference. In nearly all of my games I end up having had a larger time of possession.

Is there a way to randomize the online weather?

minor issue, but the patch makes all ankle braces turn white as the game progresses

guess the code got altered somehow when they added the jerseys getting dirty feature

I used to like this patch and now I just want to delete it. All American is unplayable now for me since the cpu run blocking is so bad. My NT has 21 tackles for loss in 7 games. I'm going to try Heisman for awhile and if that fails I will be deleting this patch. They fixed a few nice things but broke a crucial area for me.
i haven't really noticed this yet when playing but i will say that i'm northern Illinois and my DT is an all american with tons of tackles for loss...i'd say 3/4 of his total are for a loss. maybe this is a sim issue. overall, i think the shotgun run blocking is pretty poor. i noticed this when playing.

i still have yet to see dirty uniforms but at this point, i don't really care.

Okay, I hope people read this as I don't like being obnoxious and using all caps, especially when I did not read through the entire thread to see if what I'm saying has been discussed, but my friend and I discovered a huge, huge, huge problem with NCAA 11 that may have come up during one of the new patches or tunings. If you are passing and flick the RS down to pump fake, every single player in coverage on the defense rushes the quarterback leaving anyone out for a pass wide open. This is a huge problem that needs to be addressed as quickly as possible as it is something that can be easily abused.

Maybe this patch will assume more efficiency if my OD was started over but three years in I dont have the patience.

Time to just bite the tongue, bend over and take it like EA apparently wants me to...
In my Mizzou dynasty that just entered 2011, I had about 6 4* recruits that were all in the 72-76 range. I even had a 3* DE that is a 77! Some years are just better for recruits than others I think. Russ even said so himself if I recall corrrectly.

The pass tuning decision is interesting. As a sim player I find it less realistic. I find it hard to imagine that the programmers tested their new patch and didn't notice that passing is now very easy.

I really recommend that people at least try Varsity, yes you will have to adjust sliders extensively, but a lot of problems, CPU blitzing and running problems and Robo QB are alleviated on this difficulty (with currect sliders). I just made the switch after patch 2 since I cannot get AA to play sim like and I plan on sticking with it. Give it a shot

how is the shotgun running post patch? is it better or worse?

# 414 magic247 @ 08/15/10 11:15 PM
I play varsity coach mode and I've spent hours tweaking with the cpu accuracy post patch to no avail.

The developers have discontinued almost all of the overthrow passes that receiver nor defensive back could get to. Now, accuracy is a virtually useless attribute on NCAA 11, even when a 300 lb defensive lineman is about to plant you into the turf.

I love playing sports video games, but there are always glaring issues with the gameplay or the mode you cherish the most, like dynasty and online. I don't blame the developers because they have little time to make the game, and make it better, and better, each year with pressure from both corporate office and consumer alike.

Like the story of the person saving the babies floating down a river, when is something going to be done to address the source of sim sports videogamers' concerns, product quality? When is the question, "How can a quality sim sports videogame be put out in a year and still remain fairly consistent in its net profit after its sales have been tallied?"

I don't know, but I won't leave you (EA) without a couple lay suggestions:

1) Hire interns who either work for free or small stipends

2) Sacrifice a small percentage of your budget to improving game quality

3) Hone in on what made 2k5 and what makes 2k sports in general more successful with fans of simulation sports videogames and slowly tap into its market (like they did yours once upon a time).

Best Wishes

Sorry if this has been answered before, I have been out of town all week so missed the release of the patch and the subsequent Q and A going on on here about it, but for Patch 2 to take effect, do I need to restart my dynasty or will its changes be implemented automatically?

Same, still hard to use outside of halfback dives.

You do not need to restart the dynasty for changes take effect. For example, once you get this patch, play a game and see the uniforms get dirty.

I did this and am quite surprised at how good it plays!! Very competitive as well. Def not seeing robo qb on either side.

The tuner and the patch are separate, correct? The patch downloaded last night when I hooked my system to the internet. How do I know that the new tuner downloaded as well?

# 420 KG @ 08/16/10 11:15 AM
Since the 2nd patch I actually see more times where the HB will not cut it outside and they still cover the ball up a ton. This was with tackling at conservative too.
