NCAA Football 11 News Post

After the frenzy this morning, EA has posted details on the patch. This is the official blog that will be out soon on the EA site. LTP #2 is also needed for the patch to have the full effect. It is available as of 9:10am eastern.

-----------------------------------------

Hello again NCAA Fans!

I'm Russ Kiniry and I'd like to welcome you to Client Update 2 for NCAA Football 11. You should be able to download the update now (it will automatically download when you start the game). Roy talked about this update coming a while back in his blog 'Thank You' and I brought it up again when we released Live Tuner Pack 1 last week. I am happy to finally say it is here, and we've got a long list of tweaks, tunes, and fixes. Many of these changes were requests straight from you, the fans of NCAA Football, so it was very important to us to get them in the update. Enough words, let's get to the list!

Graphics
  • Uniform degradation has been fixed.
  • Fixed a graphical issue with TeamBuilder sideline home uniforms.
  • Fixed several camera bugs (pulled back on field goals, blurry cameras, and replays after a change of possession)
  • Fixed helmet numbers for Rice and Wake Forest
Online
  • Resolved an issue with Season Showdown, allowing us to turn it back on, so you're upload failure message every time you go in/out of game is gone!
  • Fixed a couple freezes related to lobbies
  • Fixed voice communication in Online Dynasty Hub on PS3
  • Fixed an issue that could lead to a disconnect in online play during play calling
Offense
  • Fixed an issue on a couple plays where the QB would miss a hand off and run backward
  • Reduced the chance that the ball will be knocked out when a receiver is hit at the time of the catch
  • Tuned the CPU ball carrier so that they will break to the outside more often when appropriate
  • Tuned how the CPU ball carriers utilize leans and special moves so that they won't be used in situations when they shouldn't (e.g. a HB in the open field will not put his shoulders down when running forward)
  • Tuned pass accuracy and the ability to lead a receiver
  • Tweaked sideline catch animations in the end zone so that they have a bit more room to play
  • Fixed an exploit where backwards passes could be overly effective
Defense
  • Fixed defensive reaction to pump fake to be more balanced. Skilled defensive backs will not be as easily fooled by pump fakes.
  • Tuned the Aggressive Defensive Line Gameplan to have more risk of jumping offsides
  • Removed a hesitation from defensive lineman pass rush on screen plays
  • Improved flat zone and deep zone coverage
  • Tuned man coverage reaction to the run
  • Adjusted CPU pursuit angles in some specific cases where they weren't being aggressive enough
Special Teams
  • Tuned onside kicks to be less predictable
  • Fixed an issue where catching a kicked ball after hitting the goalpost would result in kicking team getting the ball back
  • Fixed an issue where the punter could line up out of place
  • Adjusted cross bar collision on field goals and extra points
Other
  • Tuned CPU clock management where they would let the clock run out in some cases they shouldn't
  • Fixed a bug with time of possession tracking
  • Adjusted substitutions to be more intelligent (previously would see some weird players in the game with lots of aggressive no huddle)
  • Fixed a couple places where the wrong custom stadium sounds would play
  • Fixed a bug that caused Road To Glory to be simulated day by day near the end of the season
  • Tuned Kick Power and Kick Accuracy of progression of kickers and punters in Dynasty Mode
  • Fixed a couple infrequent game lock-ups

Again, I want to thank you for providing us with all the feedback you have thus far, and encourage you to continue to do so. It's safe to say this is the biggest update in NCAA History. We wanted to be sure that we continue to improve your experience while playing NCAA Football 11, so this update touches almost every area of the game. You can look forward to more Live Tuner Packs for NCAA Football 11 in the near future.

This update is for you Mr. Passionate-NCAA-Football-Gamer.

i think ea did a decent job in getting this out and made some decent fixes but i still see some of the same glitches..

1) Computer still covering up the ball in the open field while running
2) Linebackers still jump up way too high to deflect passes
3) Mirroring coverage
4) Kick Coverage way too hard to get return yards
5) Blitzes are rarely disguised and are very predictable

Players still tuck the ball in the wide open field making it easy to catch ball carriers. (sigh)

I think you'd still get scuffs. Helmets banging into each other would cause this. I still think alot of teams have grass. Most of the SEC does and I can think of alot of Big 10 teams as well.

I feel the same way. In a big game situation, down by 7 or more, not much time left, and you need to drive. You'll debate with yourself on doing the pump fake backwards automatic touchdown...

I'm sure I'll end up using it once somewhere.

Seeing this list makes you wonder if they did anything in this second patch besides uniform degradation.

Don't do it. You ... must ... resist ... the urge!

Cheaters never prosper. ... Except for Pete Carroll. And John Calipari. And Tim Floyd.

Pump fake bug not only kills online quick play, but OD as well.

Playing a Heisman OD is pretty much pointless. I like to play an Od where there isnt too many user vs user games so the dynasty goes quicker. Its on Heisman because....1 i like the challenge, and 2....there will be some losses to the CPU. Not so sure about that now.

Even if you are playing with people you know, there is no way to detect if the glitch was used. Thus killing the game.

FG and punt formations STILL have the camera spanned way too far back on occasions.

# 289 bh446066 @ 08/12/10 10:57 AM
Does anyone else's formation subs NOT work for FG block? I haven't noticed this on any other formation, but this one I can't get to change. Pis$ed me off b/c my best DT got hurt on an extra point b/c of this. I don't play my starters on special teams for this very reason.

Side note on the patch: sliders for passing game will definitely have to be re-worked. Seems to have affected the kicking game as well. Not complaining here, it's just noticeably different. Dirty unis look incredible.

I'd like to hear more comments on the kicking game. It seems noticeably easier for the human. Possibly easier for the cpu as well.

Yup. That hasn't changed at all.

I only saw one fumble total in two games last night and that was on a punt return. What difficulty level are you on and what is the cpu RBA at? I raised the cpu RBA (65 on AA) so they probably don't fumble as much for me.

And for the record, anyone that uses the pump fake glitch to their advantage on purpose should be ashamed of themselves.

# 291 Seahawk76 @ 08/12/10 11:18 AM
I only had a few minutes this morning to mess around with the game after the patch and I definitely noticed the difference in penalties and better CPU RB logic. I've been using Playmaker's sliders and they will probably need some minor tweaks, but once I get the sliders right this game will be fantastic.

I haven't really liked any of EA's football games since the PS2 days but I'm totally hooked on this one. I've barely touched Madden 11 so far because I keep getting drawn back to this game.

Pump Fake bug? uh-oh.

I pump fake pretty liberally..either left, and then throw back right, or vice versa..or sometimes to get a DB to bite early on a wheel or double move route..

Yes played my bowl game last night. Single player OD, I don't have a picture of proof, but believe me it is in. 360 BTW.

I don't know if this has to do with the patch, but in my bowl game last night, they took one of Nevada's players off on a Cart! I have never seen this happen in years of NCAA.

When the injury occurred the crowd went silent, and the cut away had the fans all looking down and shaking their head.

Once the Cart started rolling off the field the crowd then cheered for the injured player.

Priceless!

If you don't get the tuner set your players will not progress.

All season long, I've had the case of the fumbles, 3-4 per game, last night was the first game I didn't fumble once. Only threw one pick for a change too.

I said it once, and will say it again, Outstanding work EA!

Only works on a backwards fake, so you are fine in single player. Online on the other hand is ......

Yeah that fumble thing is a non issue since it can easily be fixed with ONE slider.

Im actually getting less. Went 2 games in a row without fumbling after this latest patch.

Might as well play on the easiest level If it means that much to you to always beat the cpu. I could never get myself use it, in fact I wont even consider it.

So if I pump fake left or right against a user, or in the middle of the field, I'm okay correct?

Why on earth would someone consider pump faking backwards to begin with?

Yeah that would be good considering Madden 11 has a fumble slider and BTK slider.

Besides fixing obvious glitches, the thing I like most about this patch is it opened up the CPU offense. I play on AA, pretty close to default, and stopping the CPU's offense was just too easy. I'd just choose cover 1 or cover 2 man defenses and be able to keep even great passing offenses like Houston in check with average defenses. Last night I played 2 pretty even teams and was down 14-0 in the first quarter by giving up big plays in the passing game. That was not happening before.

The CPU's defense is better as well, but not overpowered. Running was too easy before, and they seemed to make it more realistic.

AA level seems more like it should be now. In terms of the backwards pump fake, I'm not a programmer, but shouldn't that be an easy fix? Just nullify any effect of pointing the right stick down after the snap. In other words, don't even allow the QB to do it, and turn off any defensive reaction associated.
